I am new to sql so please bear with me here.I have two tables, COURSES and RESPONSES which have a common field userID. I am making a grid view which displays each users available courseName from the COURSES table and dateTaken from the RESPONSE table. So I simply wrote the query as:
SELECT c.*, r.*
FROM COURSES c, RESPONSE r
WHERE c.userID = @userID1 and r.userID = @userID1 and r.userResponse = NULL
I basically have a series of tables from one database that have an identical structure thus making retrieval of all records fairly easy (I just use a UNION ALL statement). However I need a list of values from another table within a different database that contains information regarding the group of the data.
I so far have the following:
SELECT Table1.* FROM Table1 UNION ALL SELECT Table2.* FROM Table2 UNION ALL SELECT Table3.* FROM Table3 UNION SELECT Database.dbo.SRFILE.SR_GROUP FROM Database.dbo.SRFILE INNER JOIN Database.dbo.SRFILE.SRONUMBER = Table1.Incidentx
I keep receiving a unable to parse message however all I need to retreive is the SR_GROUP value but just don't know the correct syntax. Is it actually possible to do this as the structure of SRFILE is not the same as Table1/2/3.
A follow up question concerning the DAL layer part .. The first question about dealing with large objectsI have one table (PlacesTable) that is connected by like 6 other tables (1:Many and Many:Many relations)
In my DAL should I put a big query that join the 6 tables + the m:m reference tables (btw it produces multiple data that I don't need Please refer to my old question) and place all the data in it's specific object property or, should I use a single query for each table and create an object for each fetched table .. and finally send those to the UI ?If I wasn't clear enough please let me know what I further information do you need to know!
I have two tabels as mentioned below. I am using entity framework and vs2010.I am not able to write linq query to get data from both the tables. there is one to many relationship(for one category ther can be multiple articles).
I have an C# ASP application I am writing that needs to have the capability to import a generated excel or a comma delineated sheet each day. A clerk will have this job each morning so it doesn't need to be automated. My problem in trying to understand the solution to this is that the 1 sheet contains loan information, including customer information all in the same sheet. I would like to send certain columns to update information in the loan table and send other information to update the customer table. I need it to create relationships when new loans appear in the spreadsheet.
I was in need of exporting multiple tables in a DataSet to an Excel file with multiple sheets. I found a very good article in [URL].[URL] was able to successfully export each of my datatables in the dataset to excel worksheets. This solution worked for small number of rows. But when the data got larger I am consistently getting the system.outofmemoryexception. THis is because the code is using up the memory when creating excel.
Is there a way of selecting returned values from a call to an sql database in the code behind? For example assume that I used the following to select values from a table called Products;
SELECT Price, Qty, Numbersold FROM Products
How can I now get the returned values e.g. Price in the c# codebehind and display it in a textbox? I know that in the asp markup that I can use EVAL and Bind statements to do this for example I can do Eval("Price") but is there a way of getting any of the selected values (Price, Qty or Numbersold) in the codebehind?

I have a dataTable that contains a specific column from a database. A listbox contains 100 list items in it. When page loads, I need those listbox items to be selected, whose value matches the value in the datacolumn of the datatable.
Following is the code i tried, but is not working. For some reason, it selects only the last item in the datacolumn.

I have set up an email function where a user of my website is able to send an email from the webpage including subject field and email body this allows the user that is logged in to select an email address from a drop down menu, once the email send button is clicked this will send an email to whatever email address in the dropdown menu has been selected. I want to be able to incorporate the option to send to multiple contacts such as a class list. I have set up a grid view that pulls information from the database this shows the contacts name, email address and also has a check box column.
I have set up a select all for the checkbox; I want to set up that if a checkbox is selected then the email will be sent to that person in question, so they could send an email to one, many or all users. Here is the vb code for on the email send button at the moment. I know that it has to do with the myMessage.To.Add(TxtBxEmail.Text). But instead of selecting TxtBxEmail.Text that contains the one email address from the drop down menu. I wish to be able to select any email addresses from the grid view that have been selected. I am having requirement to save Event Details in one table and Event Pass Type Vlaues in another table,I have done similar task for SMS before, where I saved SMS Message in one table and sms sent to n no. of Mobile Numbers.But in this scenario the values which I need to save in another table are three(like Passtype,Quantity and Price), I need to save Event Details in tbl_EventDetails Table and EventPassType details in tbl_PassTypeCategory with specific EventID(foregn key in this table and Primary Key in tbl_EventDetails).

I have 5 tables of which one has a primary key called "pid" as follows in patientdetails table the pid of a patient is used to compare the pid in remaining tables so the data in matching pid records can be stored in dataset. I tried using stored procedure to get them together in one dataset but it just doesent happen. This is my stored procedure,

I think the execution doesent proceed after the first if exists statements, because only the data in patientdetails is stored in dataset. and one more thing. all test tables need not contain a data against every pid in patientdetails table.
