C# - Simple Feedback Upon Data Edit On Webform?
Sep 24, 2010
I'm using a GridView control, using the Northwind database as a sandbox.
I have allowed editing of rows using AutoGenerateEditButton="true" and that all works fine. The book I'm using for reference the following code behind for error handling (C#):
[code]...
However, this seems to have no effect upon my label text, leading me to believe that the exception handling snippet won't work either.

I've installed Visual Web Developer 2010 Express on a Windows XP Pro PC. IIS is NOT installed yet. I am just evaluating this now, and the built in web server works fine for now.
I've followed these very basic steps and I'm stuck with this error:
Error WebForm_PostBackOptions is undefined
I am trying to add a RequiredFieldsValidator control to the page. Here are the steps I followed...
1- Menu options: File -> New Web Site
2- ASP.NET Empty Web Site
3- Website -> Add new item
4- Select Web Form with Place Code in separate file checked. Master page not checked.
5- No changes to the web.config file
6- I added a couple text boxes and labels to the page and a button.
7- If I click the button now, no problem. The page submits and is displayed with the information entered in the text box fields.
8- Add a RequiredFieldsValidator next to the first text box.
9- I set the ErrorMessage to some text
10- I set the ControlToValidate to the first text box's ID
11- I save then run with CTL + F5
12- The page is displayed in IE 7. I hit the Submit button and I get the popup error described above.
I used the Web Platform Installer for the installation. Everything went fine. All other aspects of my development and testing have been fine. This is the first major roadblock I hit. I think it has something to do with a configuration setting in the web.config file, but I do not know what setting to add/change.

I want a gridview for feedbcak process by students about their teachers. I need to render teachers image in header row (that,s also dynamically based on previously selected teachers), and dynamically selected questions for feedback in the header column. In the remaining cells I need star rating control to rate the teachers on respective question.
I also wanted the functionality so that teachers images i.e. header row remain in it's position while scrolling but I got the same from your previous post.I also want some hints on how to store the rated values in database.

i have this page called rateuser.aspx. User A logs in and can go to this page to rate&feedback any user. This is my code.
Protected Sub submit_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles submit.Click
Dim connectionString As String = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("feedbackratingConnectionString").ConnectionString
Dim connection As SqlConnection = New SqlConnection(connectionString)
connection.Open()
Dim sql As String = "INSERT INTO feedbackuser(feedbacktitle, feedback, date) VALUES(@feedbacktitle,@feedback,@date);"
Dim command As SqlCommand = New SqlCommand(sql, connection)......
the first insert is to insert the feedback data into the feedback table. the 2nd insert is to insert rating data into the rating table. the 3rd insert is to take the feedbackuserID and the ratinguserID and insert it to the feedbackratinguser table (the "toMemberID" is taken from a dropdownlist and the "fromMemberID" is when i session the logged in user.) the "toMemberID" is controlled by dropdownlist where the value is in MemberID but data displayed is username. I am unable to insert the 3rd insert. The error line was "Dim reader3 As SqlDataReader = command.ExecuteReader()" and the error is "ExecuteReader requires an open and available Connection. The connection's current state is closed." how do i solve this error? the executereader is in a open connection already.

I'll be starting a complete re-write of a system in the coming weeks. I'll be using ASP.NET MVC 2.I'm still trying to determine what I should be using as far as TDD, mocking, and IOC is concerned. I was thinking:
VSTEST for writing my TDD tests (or possibly nUnit) Moq as my mocking framework (for creating doubles and fakes) Moq for IOC development Not sure exactly what the ideal setup should be and I'm continuing to research what's available. I'd like some feedback from the community on the most optimal toolsets for TDD, mocking, and IOC.

i am having serious trouble doing this rateuser.aspx. in this page, the logged in user(user A) can give a feedback to any user (user B). Similarly, another user (user C) can give a feedback to user B. when user A goes to user B's page, he should be able to see all feedback that was given to user B. i am having problem in doing the retrieving as i get duplicate data. To my knowledge, one user can receive many feedback.. and one user can give many feedback. my friend said it could because my "toMemberID" has the same ID (user B), thus it duplicated.
my sql code is this :

I am using a server control on a single web.forms page. I have to use this control on a web.forms page since its a server control, although this is actually a MVC project. So I created a web.forms folder and put my new page in it. I then copy the example code from the signature control. I get the following error:
The base class includes the field 'ctrlSign', but its type (WebSignatureCapture.SignatureControl) is not compatible with the type of control (ASP.signaturecapture_signaturecontrol_ctlsignature_ascx).
I know the code works because if I removed the ID attribute from the server control, it no longer gives me this error and my control renders. But I need the attribute for the ID so I can perform is post event
I am using this signature control. Here's the web.forms code...
<%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="Index.aspx.cs" Inherits="KahunaCentralTIDRevamp.SignatureCapture.Index" %> [code]....

Can someone tell me if there is a technique to make an entire Column within an gridview (for example digits) editable (instaed of a single row) and update this column after changing values by press an Update-button?
A commercial solution is also o.k. with me, but, of course, a method to do it ourselve would be nice.

I have a page with 2 GridViews on it. The top GridView shows all the Bike Riders the bottom GridView shows all the Bike Lockers. I have set up both GridViews to be able to Edit the data. And the top GridView to Select.
When I click the Select buton on the top GridView I programically reset the DataSource for the bottom GridView to show the Locker for the Biker of the top GridView Selected.
So far everything works great. I select a Biker on the Top GridView and the Bottom GridView resets just showing one record for the bike locker.
The problem is that if I then click on the Edit button on the bottom GridView (The Bike Locker GridView) the GridView goes into the Edit Mode but it now shows all the Bike Locker records and the edit record is always the top record of the GrdView.
