Forms Data Controls :: Gridview With Entity Frame Work Datasource?

Jun 11, 2010

I have a gridview with entity frame work datasource. When editing or deleting I get Store update, insert or delete statement affected an unexpected number of rows(0). I selected * from the datasource. I made a template field to show the posts. There is a PostId in the framework. I am guessing that the PostID is not bound to the gridview the problem and the fix?

ModalPopupExtender Doesn't Work On IE6 Frame Layout

Jun 15, 2010

I'm using a "frame" layout similar to the one in this excellent answer: a div #top at the top of the page, a div#left on the left, and a div #main with the main content. The #top and #left divs contain navigation menus.Now I want to use a popup div using the AjaxControlToolkit ModalPopupExtender inside the content (#main) div.This works fine on IE8 (where #top, #left, #main all have position:fixed), but when I run it on IE6, the modal background only covers the #main div - I need it to cover the whole of the page including the #top and #left navigation divs.

Custom Server Controls :: Custom Validator Client-side Validation Cannot Work?

Jan 13, 2010

I've been trying to get a custom validator component working that ensures at least one checkbox from a checkboxlist has been checked. I've been used some code I found on dotnetjunkies.com but the client-side validation didn't work. I've been attempting to modify it to get the client-side javascript validation to work with no luck. Basically, I compile the below code into a DLL and add it to my bin folder.

Get The Compare Validator To Work Server Side?

Aug 31, 2010

I have this compare validator:

<asp:CompareValidator ID="cpvBirthDate" Type="Date" ControlToValidate="txtBirthDate" Operator="DataTypeCheck" runat="server" ErrorMessage="Please enter a valid date in this format mm-dd-yy">
<img src="Images/ExclamationMark.gif" alt="Please enter a valid date in this format mm-dd-yy" />
</asp:CompareValidator>

It works on the clientside fine, but if a user has javascript disabled then it accepts 071873 which is not a date. Do I need to write a specific serverside function for this validator to work?

Usage Of .net Server Controls In .net Mvc?

Dec 22, 2010

usage of asp.net server controls in asp.net mvc. The question is like can we use asp.net server controls in the asp.net mvc? If asp.net server controls cannot be used in asp.net mvc is it a limitation of asp.net mvc model? If it is a limitation then how to use more number of controls(like asp.net server controls)

I have a question in the controller like, controller defines controllerActions. If the controller action method is non-action method, then how to call that nonaction method?I have one more question like, usage of HTTPPost in mivc?can we have a button click action without a HTTPPost attribute to my controlleraction method?

Server Side Caching Doesn't Work With HttpHandler?

Mar 15, 2010

If we use an aspx page with a Caching Profile, the server caches images that are loaded with the aspx page. So if ten clients load the same image through the aspx page (same url), for one client the image is gotten out of the db, for the nine others it is cached.When we use a HttpHandler, this doesn't happen. The image is always fetched from the database. We have tried all different settings without any success. (we have checked this link and have not been able to cache on server side).

Javascript - Server Side Show JS Alert Box, Doesn't Work When Using Partial Post Back?

Mar 24, 2010

I have put the following method in my master page. It works when I call it on a full post back, but when I call it from a updatePanel's asyncPostBack no alert is shown.

public void ShowAlertMessage(String message)

Page.ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(this.GetType(), "Key", alertScript, true);
}

What do I need to do so it works on partial post backs?

JavaScript - Exposing Server-side State Through Client-side Controls

Feb 11, 2011

I have a list of items on an ASP.net page. That list is selectable in that whenever the user clicks on one, the page does a postback and the server code stores the index or some unique identifier of the picture in a ViewState property indicating that it is currently selected.

I would like to minimize the load on the server and therefore I would like to store the index or unique identifier representing the image in some way on the client side. The best way I can think to do this is to store said information in a hidden field ), however I had two questions about this before I go crazy:

Is this a security risk in any way, shape or form (i.e., exposing implementation details of the page)?
Is there a better/best way to do this that is more industry-standard? Does ASP.net provide a framework to do this that is cleaner than my idea? Seems like this would be a fairly common requirement to me...

Web Forms :: Putting A Frame In Another Frame?

Mar 12, 2010

I have this situation where I have three pages:

The first page, default.htm, is a frameset page that uses the other two pages.

The second page, casemenu.aspx, is a form that contains an object we call "PopupManager": It has an element <xxx:PopupManager runat="server"/>. This object is dependent on the standard ScriptManager, which requires a form.

The third page, header.aspx, contains three links. Each link calls a JScript function that in turn calls a function on the Popup Manager. It makes the call to the popup manager with an expression like 'top.frames.casemenu._PopupManager'.

Now, the problem I have is that I have to change default.htm to be a normal page containing an iframe, which will refer to a new page, container.aspx, which has the original frameset. When I do that, I can no longer access the PopupManager the same way ('top.frames.casemenu._PopupManager' no longer works.)

I would like some way to refer to the PopupManager relative to header.aspx, something like "self.parent.frames.casemenu._PopupManager", but that doesn't work.

AJAX :: Controls To Work On Client Side Only?

Jan 10, 2010

I have a page where i have the products names and their prices displayed using a repeater control. The sum of prices appears in the footer using a label. Each detail row has a checkbox, which can be checked unchecked to see the total sum of prices.

I have already done this using javascript.

My question is ,

"is there any better way like using any AJAX control to do this ? or this is the only way to do it without posting back to the server?"

Custom Server Controls :: Create C# Controls On Server Side For Posted Data That Had No Runat=server

Feb 4, 2010

HOWTO create ASP.NET C# controls on server side for posted data that had no runat=server on the client.

I have processes needing to post files to a ASP.NET application. These processes must post without runat=server as such:

<form ~~~~ to some ASP.NET/C#/aspx page>
<input type=file name=MY_FILE ~~~>
</form>

On the ASP.NET page, in the Page_Load I would code somethign like this:

[URL]

Here is the trick, the control "fileLIST_FILE" does not exist because the HTML does not have runat=server on it.

If the client did have runat=server the designer.cs would have somethign liek this:

System.Web.UI.HtmlControls.HtmlInputFile fileLIST_FILE;

With all that said, I want to make "fileLIST_FILE" on the fly inside Page_Load fromt he posted name of "MY_FILE".

do not focus on the fact that this is a file upload. I would like to know how to do this for any posted FORM data.

Web Forms :: Server.Transfer Or Response.Redirect To Parent Frame Or New Window

Jul 7, 2010

rl711
You have to use target attribute in form tag:
<form runat=server target=_blank> // new window
or
<form runat=server target=_top> // above all frames
or
<form runat=server target=_parent> //parent frame
or
<form runat=server target=someframe> // a frame by name

This can only work if the Server.Transfer is invoked from within the form such as a button click.

If your Server.Transfer method is in the Page_load event (which isn't a form event), how do you set a target window to Server.Transfer?

.net - InProc Session Usage In Server Farms?

Jan 31, 2011

I'm reading ASP.NET 4 Unleashed and I came to this sentence. "When Session state is stored in-process, it is stored on a particular web server. In other words, you can't use in-process Session state with a web farm."I'm building a web app that uses and depends on storing dictionaries in the session. Now I know that there's some problem with serialization of dictionaries when using sessions but with InProc sessions, there's no serialization so I thought I'd be ok. But now I'm wondering: will I have any nasty surprise when I go to host my application?
