C# - Webform Routing Home Page In A Folder Like Mvc Rather Than Root Of Site

Aug 18, 2010

I've got webform routing setup on my asp.net webforms 3.5sp1 project. I would like to have the files for the site in a directory called content including the home page as I would like to run multiple sites using the same system. In MVC there is a blank default page and the home page is in a folder called home. I can't seem to replicate this behaviour using web form routing but would like to. The blank page is always hit first. the route handler is hit second - it recognises that the request is for the home page and sets up the routing page but is not used. the route handler code is simple:

public string VirtualPath { get; private set; }
public IHttpHandler GetHttpHandler(RequestContext
requestContext)
{
string file = requestContext.RouteData.GetRequiredString("File");
string id = requestContext.RouteData.GetRequiredString("Id");
string queryString = "?menuid=" + id;
VirtualPath = "~/" + file;
HttpContext.Current.RewritePath(
string.Concat(
VirtualPath,
queryString));
var page = BuildManager.CreateInstanceFromVirtualPath
(VirtualPath, typeof(Page)) as IHttpHandler;
return page;
}
Is there anyway I can do this?
Update
Here is my global.asax route code:
public static void RegisterRoutes(RouteCollection routes)
{
Domain.RepositoryFactory repo = new RepositoryFactory();
foreach (var x in repo.MenuRepository.GetAllEnabledGetMenus())
{
if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(x.Url))
{
//add default
System.Web.Routing.RouteTable.Routes.Add(
new Route("Default.aspx",
new RouteValueDictionary(new { File = x.FileName,
Id = x.Id.ToString() }),
new CoreRouteHandler()));
}
else
{
string url = x.Url;
if(x.Url.StartsWith("/"))
{
url = url.Remove(0, 1);
}
System.Web.Routing.RouteTable.Routes.Add(
new System.Web.Routing.Route(url,
new RouteValueDictionary(new {File = x.FileName,
Id = x.Id.ToString()}),
new CoreRouteHandler()));
}
}
}

Handle MVC Routing Along With Webform Routing

Sep 2, 2010

How to handle asp.net mvc routing along with asp.net webform routing. I have merged my mvc app into my existing web application. In my web application i have implement routing as below:

routes.Add("View Product Details", new Route("Product/{City}/{Manufacturer}/{Name}/{ProductID}/{*ProductType}"));

Similarly i have implemented routing in mvc as below

routes.MapRoute("Product Details",
"Product/{City}/{Manufacturer}/{Name}/{ProductID}/{ProductType}",
new
{
controller = "Home",
action = "ProductDetails",
City= UrlParameter.Optional,
Manufacturer= UrlParameter.Optional,
Name= UrlParameter.Optional,
ProductID= UrlParameter.Optional,
ProductType= UrlParameter.Optional
});

How to handle both pages, as one is custom web form while other is asp.net mvc view?

Url Routing For The Page Inside A Folder?

Feb 9, 2011

I am trying to implement Url routing in asp.net 4.0. I just a created a small test application. I am trying to browse the pages kept inside the folder. It works fine when i am running in Visual studio..but when i hosted the application in IIS7 then it showed an error.

HTTP Error 404.0 - Not Found

The resource you are looking for has been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.

The code i used is. (i am using master page too.)

protected void Application_Start(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
CustomRouteTable(RouteTable.Routes);
}
void CustomRouteTable(RouteCollection routes)
{
routes.MapPageRoute("Telugu", "Movie/Telugu", "~/Telugu/Telugu.aspx");
}

in my default.aspx page i kept a button and on click of the button i wrote.

protected void btnTelugu_Click(object sender, ImageClickEventArgs e)
{
Response.RedirectToRoute("Telugu");
}

Web.Routing For The Website Root Or Homepage?

Apr 1, 2010

I am doing some work with Web.Routing, using it to have friendly urls and nice Rest like interfaces to a site that is essentially rendered by a single IHttpHandler. There are no webforms, the handler generates all the html/json and writes it as part of process request.

This works well for things like /Sites/Accounting for example, but I can't get it to work for the site root, i.e. '/'.

I have tried registering a route with an empty string, with 'default.aspx' (which is the empty aspx file I keep in my root folder to play nice with cassini and iis). I set RouteExistingFiles to false explicitly, but whatever I do when hitting the root url it still opens default.axpx, which has no code it inherits from, and contains a simple h1 tag to show that I've hit it.

I don't want to change the default file to redirect to a desired route, I just want the equivalent of a 'default' route that is applied when no other routes are found, similar to MVC.

For reference, the previous version of the site didn't use Web.Routing, but had a handler referenced in the web.config that was perfectly capable of intercepting requests for the root or default.aspx.

Specs: ASP.NET 3.5sp1, C#, no webforms, MVC or openrasta. Plain old IHttpHandlers.

Routing Webform In Mvc App

Aug 6, 2010

I have an ASP.NET MVC app and I have a WebForm page I built in the MVC due to a tutorial on how to do something I needed to do, but it was all in WebForm style. Ive tried to figure out how to do the same thing in MVC format but cant figure it out. So I was needing to figure out how to use this page in my MVC app. But when I try to go to the page, it gives me the error "Page cannot be derived from ViewMasterPage unless Page derives from ViewPage." So I had to make a new standard MasterPage also.

The situation is this. I have a search bar located in the MVC ViewMasterPage thats on every page that is derived from it. Once a user submits info in the search bar, it calls the WebForm Search.aspx page and displays the results on the Search.aspx page. I want the URL to be like "http:///search//. The Search.aspx page is located in the root of the project. How would I get the results Im looking for?

Web Site Deployment / Root Of The Site?

Jan 3, 2010

Is not a lot of fun of yielding much success at the moment.

When I copy my web site on the local machine some of the CSS classes in my themes are not applied. Although not major, I am concerned at what may be causing this.

My real problem is regard the root of the site. On my personal machin, I have set the root of my site using the tilde syntax. However, the root of the web site on my host's ftp site is wwwroot.

Does this mean that I need to change a setting somewhere for the page to be recognised?

Render An Image File Which Is Stored NOT In Web Application's Home Folder?

Mar 14, 2011

Imagine there's a web (mvc) application, which home directory on the server is the default c:intepubwwwroot. What i need is: user requests [URL] Server responses with a simple page with a random picture on it from a predefined path, which is not iis folder/app, like d:lolcats. This sample is tremendously simplified, of course. My solution is: when /randomPicture/ is requested, copy random picture to APP_Images/current_response.jpg or whatever to application home folder and then simply render <img src="../APP_Images/current_response.jpg" />

AJAX :: Controls Work In Subfolders But Not In Root Folder?

Jan 8, 2010

EDITED To make issue more clear. I have also discovered this same issue with validatorcallout extensions used in a usercontrol in a root page and a subfolderpage

I have a strange issue I cannot figure out. I have a usercontrol that is used to display news story details. One of the requirements is to be able to email the story to someone. In this control I have included a modal popup to do contain the email form. What is really strange is that if the control is used in a page in a subfolder themodalpopup works as designed but when the control is in a page in the root folder while the usercontrol still works, themodalpopup control stops working.

Controls/StoryDetails.ascx

[Code]....

This control gets placed within a masterpage via a base MasterPageClass when there is a storyid in the querystring object

[Code]....

When the master page resides at the root level the popup doesn't work but in anyother folder it does work.
