View 1 RepliesI am using iis 5.1 in which we have only only one default website, I have two projects v2 and v3 my website points to v2 projects and have some folders images, styles etc now i have a virtual directory under this website that is hosting project v3 and having the same folder hierarchy as v2 in the home page of the both projects i have img src="imagesedlogo.gif" alt="logo"/> but this shows the same image that is in the v2 directory, How can i show different images for both projects. using "" get the root of the web site but how can i get the root of virtual directory under that website

When I copy my web site on the local machine some of the CSS classes in my themes are not applied. Although not major, I am concerned at what may be causing this.
My real problem is regard the root of the site. On my personal machin, I have set the root of my site using the tilde syntax. However, the root of the web site on my host's ftp site is wwwroot.
Does this mean that I need to change a setting somewhere for the page to be recognised?
I am a PHP developer and have been asked to make some slight amendments to an ASP.net site. I can make these amendments but the biggest challenge seems to be getting the actual site up and running on my own server! I have a had lots of errors with regards to the paths to files, as the website is linked absolutely to the root folder and on my development server I cannot have the files at the root. I have therefore worked my way through some of the files making the paths relative so I can at least see some of the site running but then I came across this error:

On a MVC 3 site I have a area named "CMS" on on CMSAreaRegistration I have:

I tried many options to try to solve it but I always get something wrong.
So my website works great on my local computer. It also works fine when I use the Copy Web Site feature in Visual Web Developer 2010 Express. But I do not want all of my files and the default.aspx to be sitting at the root of my domain name. I want it to be in a subfolder.
So again, it works fine when it's sitting at www.domainname.com
But when I use my FTP program to move the files to:
www.domainname.com/subfolder/
I get an error when I try to visit the site. It's just a general runtime error and does not display the specific error message. It obviously must have something to do with when I MOVE the files/folders from the root of the domain to the subfolder?
I know that to use link a view found in one view to one in another, i need to use;

But what if i want to link FROM an area to a view in the root of the site? This view is in the views folder found in the root, NOT in any area.
I've got webform routing setup on my asp.net webforms 3.5sp1 project. I would like to have the files for the site in a directory called content including the home page as I would like to run multiple sites using the same system. In MVC there is a blank default page and the home page is in a folder called home. I can't seem to replicate this behaviour using web form routing but would like to. The blank page is always hit first. the route handler is hit second - it recognises that the request is for the home page and sets up the routing page but is not used. the route handler code is simple:

Suddenly, IIS 7.0 is redirecting every request for the root of any domain hosted on the box to ~/Account/Logon, which is our Forms Authentication redirect. Additionally, some JavaScript and image requests are being similarly redirected, but not other aspx pages.
EDIT: It turns out that something has gone wrong with the disk permissions. Can anyone point me to the way things are supposed to be in Windows Server 2008 for a standard ASP.Net installation? The disk permissions are out of whack now.
I ran into the following issue when trying to run a test website on IIS 7.5 (Windows Server 2008 R2 DatacenterEdition). The web-app is configured to run with framework version 3.5 in a .Net 2.0 app pool. Also the framework 4.0 beta 2 is installed on the server. The application named 'TestPfade' is located under the website's root named 'Default'. It is not only a virtual directory but defined as an application. When viewed in a browser the image gets shown because the given relative path is correctly resolved to 'images/Lighthouse.jpg' but the paths to the ajax-framework resources also include the application's root folder and therefor aren't found: 'src="/TestPfade/WebResource.axd?d=1bX...' I had a situation on a dev server where all the ASP.Net applications we have started to fail at the same time.After some investigation we found that calls the app settings, in 1.1 apps, and the connection strings collection in 2.0 apps all failed. The config files had the values, but the code was returning null.After some head scratching and searching I thought that perhaps the root web.config was being used and the sites one ignored. To test out this theory I added the app settings required for one of the sites to the root web.config. This allowed the site to work.

On Web Site 1, I have to provide controls to enter user id and password and which have to be validated on Web Site 2 on server B, after validating them I have to redirect the user to Web site 2.

Note: On Web Site 2, user login functionality is already existing and it is provided by ASP.Net login control, am not sure how to handle the user login process from two different places.

View 1 RepliesUsing Visual Web Developer 2010 Express. I was used to creating a web app anytime and I would get a default page for starters and be happy. But today I find that when I pick either the ASP.NET Web Site or ASP.NET Web Application templates I get site.master and a bunch of site admin files that I don't want. Alternately when I select the empty versions of those templates, I get almost nothing at all. An almost empty web.config page and no Default.aspx page. There is nothing magical about having a default.aspx page in place, but it is an indicator of a change when I can only get a virtually completely empty website or a website with a bunch of bells and whistles I don't want.
Also, for some reason, when I create a new app or website as just noted, in the Solution Explorer I get aspx.designer.cs files showing as well as web.config files for both debug and release. Somehow some settings and templates must have changed, or am I missing something here? How can I get my settings/templates to go back to the way they were?
I have an odd scenario. I'm trying to run a 4.0 application under a 2.0 web site. If I have the 4.0 application as a level 1 sub folder on a different web site, it runs fine. However, if I have it running under wwwroot, it gives me an error. Why is it referencing the web config in the root even though this site has its own?

Now I need to retrieve the virtual path from code. How do I get it? I do not want to redirect to a page but want to get a complete URL of a page and send it via email.
For e.g. I need to sned http://localhost:8080/MyApplication/Home/ in the email.
I am having a little difficulty trying to wrap my head around site structures. I have quite a large asp.net site, for which: Admins can see a user list, Each user can have many accounts, and for each account can have many items. I can picture this as a breadcrumb trail of editing a particular item. User List > Mr Bob > Accounts > BOB77 > Items > Item32 > Edit
User List = All the users Mr Bob = A user the administrator has selected from the User List Accounts = A list of the user's accounts 12BOB = The administrator has selected the account named 12BOB Items = A list of the items an account contains Item32 = The item that the administrator selected Edit = The action that the administrator wants to do. I can picture how this would look like if it was using ASP.NET MVC with the URL, but I am unsure how to map this out using Webforms, and in the physical filesystem.
This is what I have thought up about how I am guessing the physical structure would look like. Will this have to use session variables to achieve what I am trying to do?

View 4 Repliesi have an asp.net website which contains a link to a legacy site written in classic asp which has vb 6 classes (dll) in the back ground also.here is what i am trying to achieve:-i want to browse to the asp.net website using IE7,then when the link is clicked then enters the classic asp site i want to start debugging the classic asp and step through it.(also to make things worse, once a the vb6 class is instanciated, and a call make to its method i want to debug the method in the vb 6 code)My system :- XP Pro, IIS 5, Visual Studio 2005 (asp.net project ), Visual interdev 6 (classic asp project) Visual Basic 6 (vb 6 classes compiled into dll)i have been trying everything with no joy, there is lots on the net but nothing seems to have worked.i have the back office components installed so asp debugging is possible, i have configured the asp website s debugging is turned on.if i add a breakpoint to the classic asp site and hit the start button in visual interdev i can step through it fine.My problem is that if i attach interdev to a process (iexplorer.exe or dll.host) then the breakpoints are not hit. if anyone can help me with this it would be great.ont top of that, if anyone can explain to me how to also debug the vb6 dll code in visual basic 6 when it is called from the classic asp site that would be great!
View 1 RepliesI have 2 sites, one the main product site the other a secure site featuring the basket and checkout processes.
When a user clicks "add item to basket" I am creating a basket in a database and then adding the items to the basket. The theory was then to store the id from the database for the basket (the basketid) in a cookie, redirect the user to secure site, use the basket id from the cookie and display the contents in the basket.
However I am having trouble getting the secure site to use the same cookie. When I redirect the users to the secure site, the basket appears empty. I need to go back to the main site and then back to secure before the cookie appears.

But like I say it's having problems. I've tried replacing the cookies with session variables as well but it didn't work.
