C# - Finding Recommendations For Google Analytic For Tracking Users Activities In Web App Application Admin Section?
Mar 17, 2011
I'm developing a CMS for my website.
I need track Users activities in my Cms Admin section (protected by password).
I would like to know:
If is possible add GA (Google Anlytic) code and use it even if the pages where the code is placed are covered by password.
If such use can create secrity vulnerability of any kind. (If is good or bad practice).
How to retrieve easily the statistics from pages in Admin section if the folder for admin is (example: ADMIN) in GA account. They come up like /admin/mypage.aspx??? Or how???
Generally, I would like your opinion about it and if you are using this approch it in your current web application.

I'm looking for advice on what .NET user interface components are out there on the market. I have been developing asp.net websites and have mainly been using the Visual studio toolbox build in controls supported by the AjaxcontrolToolkit and the applications have been mainly used inhouse running on our company intranet.
But now a new client wants a much more professional looking, commercial web application and they have a budget for some user components for use in the application. Any recommendations where value for money will be realised.
Interested in components that will integrate well with ASP.NET 3.5 SP1 or even .NET 4.

I'm starting to plan an architecture for a big web application, and I wanted to get suggestions and/or recommendations on where to begin and which technologies and/or frameworks to use. The application will be an Intranet-based web site using Windows authentication, running on IIS and using SQL Server and ASP.NET. It'll need to be structured as a main/shell application with sub-applications that are "pluggable" based on some configuration settings.
The main or shell application is to provide the overall user interface structure - header/footer, dynamically built tabs for each available sub-app, and a content area in which the sub-application will be loaded when the user clicks on the sub-application's tab. So, on start-up of the main/shell application, configuration information will be queried from a database, and, based on the user and which of the sub-apps are available, the main or shell app would dynamically build tabs (or buttons or something) as a way to access each individual application. On start-up, the content area will be populated with the "home" sub-app. But, clicking on an sub-app tab will cause the content area to be populated with the sub-app corresponding to the tab.
For example, we're going to have a reports application, a display application, and probably a couple other distinct applications. On startup of the main/shell application, after determining who the user is, the main app will query the database to determine which sub-apps the user can use and build out the UI. Then the user can navigate between available sub-apps and do their work in each. Finally, the entire app and all sub-apps need to be a layered design with presentation, service, business, and data access layers, as well as cross-cutting objects for things such as logging, exception handling, etc.
Anyway, my questions revolve around where to begin to plan something like this application. What technologies/frameworks would work best in developing a solution for this application? MVC? MVP? WCSF? EF? NHibernate? Enterprise Library? Repository Pattern? Others? I know all these technologies/frameworks are not used for the same purpose, but knowing which ones to focus on is a little overwhelming.
Which ones would be the best choice(s) for a solution? Which ones work well together for an end-to-end design? How would one structure the VS project for something like this?

Following one of the other tutorials I have figured out how to manage users [URL] but it does not mention how to delete them from the GridView. I have attached my Page's code plus my VB script. I have added a delete link into the GridView for preparation but all I would like is the VB script so that when the user clicks delete it deletes the user from the GridView and Databse. I hope I have made every really simple, anyway here it is:
ManageUsers.aspx

I'm using the profile to store a users shopping cart which works fine. I now need a way for the site admins to create a cart, add items and checkout for a particular user.
I'm trying to access the users cart with this: Profile.GetProfile(lblUserName.Text).SCart
I first check to see if the user has a cart and create one if he does not and then add the item to the cart. I'm using the code below but get this error when attempting to add the item:

Here is my code:

As an organisation, we use Google Apps. We have the paid version (mapped to our domain) etc...We are developing a web based application to manage orders, and other business functionality.I want to be able to use federated login with our google apps accounts-
For example, if a user is logged in to their email (gMail) - they should automatically be logged in to our ASP.net application
If they're not logged in - the log in form should auth. against our google apps account.How can this be done?Is it possible to be able to "get" the user who is currently logged in using this method etc...?

I need to log every user-action taken on a database using the username of the person logged into my ASP.net application as the identifier in the log. What is the easiest way to do this? I guess that for every method call to my data access layer I need to log the parameters of that call and the username and then call a new "log event" method that writes the details of the call to a table. Am I on the right track?

I have created a website using Visual Web Developer Express and origonally the database was created in SQL Server Express. My Web host would not accept the .mdf file so I installed SQL 2008 Server Developer and imported my database in the full SQL Server. I then linked my website to the new database and altered the web.config file to point to the new database.
All the pages work well now apart from the Login Web Control which just says login unsuccessful and asks me to login again. When I try this on the actual website I get the following error message
"Exception Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)"
Its obviouly not finding the Membership/User Table in the new database but I cannot find a way to redirect it. I have tried deleting the Login Web Control and re-inserting but get the same problem.

I have a web app Which Uses Forms Authentication.
One thing that we want to be able to do on Support is login to a specific users account Via our admin account.
We are using the standard asp.net membership authentication.
The idea would be for the support technition to be able to login using credentials like admin(<Troubled User>) using the Admin Account password
We are using a a Standard ASP.Login Control
The real Issue is that the Me.Page.User.Identity.Name is set to the value on the CtlLogin.Username Property. I need it to be the the Support Login?
Login Control
Code:
<asp:Login ID="ctlLogin" runat="server" DisplayRememberMe="False" Font-Names="Arial Rounded MT Bold" Font-Size="12pt" ForeColor="Black"
MembershipProvider="MembershipProvider" Width="100%" TitleText="" UserNameLabelText="User" VisibleWhenLoggedIn="False" RememberMeSet="True"
PasswordLabelText="Password" EnableTheming="False" Height="35px" >
[Code] ....
Validate User Script
Code:
Dim objstrSupUser As String = ""
'Load the user from the membership provider
Dim strUserName As String = ctlLogin.UserName
If ctlLogin.UserName.IndexOf("(") > 0 Then
objstrSupUser = Regex.Match(strUserName, "(([^)]*))").Groups(1).Value
[Code] ....

I've been asked to re-write an existing VS 2003 applicatoin in VS 2010. The application contains multiple sections that allows certains users the ability to edit based on security roles. Each user is able to view the sections. There is ton of code to enable/disable section permissions for each user. Is there a better option available in VS 2010? I'm not too familiar with MVC and not sure if it would work in this scenario - each section should be available when the users login.

develop a user admin application.My schema looks like the following:See full size As you can see I've got my own version of the user table and profile tables to store my data with a one-to-one mapping with aspnet membership tables.I'm interested in using ASP.NET dynamics to speed up the proccess of creating an admin system.
I would like to create a customised listing with a search and a data grid listing with just basic details such as name and state information, date registered and then when you click to edit your presented with the domain representation of the data and not the exact undelying data.Has anyone any experiece in doing this or building a real work application with Dynamic data?
