View 9 RepliesHas anybody else had an issue with the sender address not being used as the return-path/bounce address when using system.net.mail to send email with a different address for the return-path/sender and the from address and using the SpecifiedPickupDirectory delivery method? This issue is particularly important when you need to send mail from a "user" address, but want bounce backs to come to a different address so they can be processed. Using the code below, I think you can reproduce the issue.
Imports System.Net.Mail
Partial Class emailtest
Inherits System.Web.UI.Page
Protected Sub test_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles test.Click
' Build Message
Dim mail As New MailMessage
mail.To.Add("user@gmail.com")
mail.From = New MailAddress("from@domain.com")
mail.Sender = New MailAddress("sender@domain.com")
mail.Subject = "Test Subject"
mail.Body = "Test Body"
' Drop in Pickup Directory
Dim smtpPK As New SmtpClient
smtpPK.DeliveryMethod = SmtpDeliveryMethod.SpecifiedPickupDirectory
smtpPK.PickupDirectoryLocation = "C: emp"
smtpPK.Send(mail)
' Send Message Directly
Dim smtp As New SmtpClient("mail.domain.com")
smtp.Send(mail)
End Sub
End Class

View 2 RepliesI have a "Contact Us" page where in users will give in their email id and a query and on submitting the form, web admin would receive that email.
If I configure their email id to "from" MailAddress and send the mail, it will fail to do so if the ID is from popular mail domains like gmail or hotmail but would work with other unpopular or non existent domains like me@abcxyzmail.om without any credentials provided!
It worked with gmail after I configured SMTP and network credentials properly. The aim is to let the admin of my website who receives the email be able to hit the reply button in his mail client and see the "to" field populated with the "from" field filled in "contact us" page. Is there any proper way to do this or a tip or trick to accomplish it.

I don't know if it has to be with my application but the thing is that I created a registration form, when the user registers an automatic mail from my mail account at my hosting site is send to the mail account the user input.
The code is working I have tested it with a Hotmail and Yahoo account but Gmail is not receiving.
It is important to say that Hotmail and Yahoo receive the email at the junk mail folder, but Gmail not receives it in any folder. I check my mail account for bouncebacks but there is no problem.
If I change the code to send mails from my gmail account no matter what mail account the user inputs it will receive the mail. I've already contacted my hosting site support but they say they can't find any problem.
I've already waited 48 hours because maybe gmail account would take longer to receive the email but I haven't received it.

I am not sure exactly what javascript calls it, but in vb and c# it would be called "sender". I want to use one function with some slight changes in it that depend on the sender.
How do I check to see who the sender was in javascript
I have a list of ajax actionlinks that are supposed to call a javascript function on success. The function is supposed to change the css class of the parent div. I tried it two ways, both have a weird problem with them. This is the function they are calling:

When I run this code, the OnSuccess function gets called right away, before the ajax call has returned. That's no good. If I change it to OnSuccess="SetSelected" it waits for the ajax call to return, but the javascript funtion fails because I'm not passing any values to it. How am I supposed to do this, and get none of the unwanted behavior?
is possible to get the button sender that generates the event click?
if i check the sender in the page_load i view null
I have a couple of web applications which all utilize sending emails whether it be by contact form, or some kind of notification updates etc. The problem I have found is that there isn't really any way to track the emails which are being sent from the web applications, so I've come up with a possible solution: It's pretty straight forward really - instead of having each web application sending the emails themselves I would like to unify the process by creating a central Email Sender Service.
In basic terms, each application would just create a row in a 'Outbound Emails' table on the database with To,From,Subject,Content data. The Email Sender Service (Win Service) would then pick the emails from the outbox, send them and then mark as sent.
Even though I would store 'basic email' information (to,from,subject,content) in the database, what I would really like to do is also store the 'MailMessage' object itself so that the Email Sender Service could then de-serialize the original MailMessage as this would allow any application to fully customize the email. Are there any problems with using the MailMessage object in this way? Update: Another objective, is to store a log of emails that have been sent - hence the reason for using a database.
I have a master page with a button that triggers a callback event. It works fine however, the content page's page_load event is raised when the button is clicked. The logic within the content page's page_load event is specific to the page and not to anything on the master page. How do I determine the sender of the callback event so that I can skip any logic to be performed in the content page's page_load event?
