Web Forms :: Cannot Read Property From Mark-up?

Jan 29, 2010

I've got the following in my .aspx:

<input type="image" src="<%=PayPalButtonImage %>" onserverclick="RedirectToPayPal" runat="server" />

In the code-behind I've got this property:

protected string PayPalButtonImage
{
get { return PayPalExpressCheckoutButtonUrl;}
}

why can't it see this property or the server method RedirectToPayPal? I get a runtime error of :'ASP.cart_aspx' does not contain a definition for 'RedirectToPayPal' and no extension method 'RedirectToPayPal' accepting a first argument of type 'ASP.cart_aspx' could be found

Localization :: LINQ2SQL / Text Label Is Bound To The SwedishText Property In The Mark Up?

Mar 12, 2010

Im using LINQ2SQL and i have an object called Article. Its has 2 properties FinishText and SwedishText. The idea is to let the user choose language. Swedish is default.

I bind the objects to a listView and there is a label that takes the swedish language. When the user presses the Finish flag button i want the objects to reload and the finish text to show instead of the swedish. The problem is that the text label is bound to the SwedishText property in the mark up like this:

<%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "SwedishText")%>

I can think of some ways to solve this, and i have one that doesnt work that well. My question is, what would be a good way to solve this? Im not so experienced so i know that there are lots of you out there that know how to do this much better.

Another problem i dont like my solution to is when i have an object that has a association with my Article object, like ArticleCategory. The ArticleCategoryId of my Article is, lets say 31, which is corresponds to the category "Movies". I dont want to display the category id but rather the name of the category itself (Movies).

So this is what i do:
<%#GetCategoryNameFromId(DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "Article_Id"))%>

I call a method that recreates the artice object and from there creates the ArticleCategory and gets the name from it. Its a horrible solution cause it involves lots of trips to the Database. Especially since i do similar things with other properties.

Just wanted to hear what is a proper and good way to deal with these common but for me new tasks.

Rename The Property In Json Serialization?

Jul 16, 2010

in Json.net we can rename the property with [JsonPropertyAttribute("")] ,

public class Foo
{
// how can I rename the Foo1 property name to F1?!
public string Foo1 { set; get; }
public string Foo2 { set; get; }
}

and in the web service code behind :

[WebMethod]
public List<Foo> GetFoos()
{
List<Foo> post = new List<Foo>
{
new Foo(),
new Foo(),
new Foo()
};
return post;

C# - How To Return Json From Action Method With Array Property

Mar 14, 2011

I am trying to return some data as json from an action method.

I have an employee object that looks like this:

public class Employee
{
public int EmployeeID {get; set;}
public string FirstName {get; set;}
public string LastName {get; set;}
//Other irrelevant properties
}

Then I have a view model as follows

public Class EmployeeViewModel
{
public Employee Supervisor{get; set;}
public List<EmployeeViewModel> Employees
}

I need to return a json object that looks exactly like this:

{id: 1, name: John, children: [
{id: 1, name: Joe, children: []},
{id: 1, name: Rob, children: []}
]}

For now I only need to go to the second level as above, returning and supervisor and their staff members beneath them.

How would I go about returning this in my action method(I have the viewModel object hydrated already I just need to return it as json). My problem so far has been that the children property does not get populated.

Determine Which Classes Are Serializable?

Aug 16, 2010

I am changing my ASP.NET app to use a web farm. To do this, I need to change the session state from in-proc to a State Server. To do this, it is my understanding that the classes that are used must be marked as serializable. How can you tell if that is possible with a class? Will you get an error at compile time if it is not possible?

Return Serializable Object From FileStream?

Dec 30, 2010

I'm a little green when it comes to streaming and serialization...but what i wanna do is make the Upload method on the server return a serializable object to the client (it is void right now). I have a public class ServiceResult that i decorate with [Serializable], and a public class FileTransferService that implements IFileTransferService

[ServiceContract()]
public interface IFileTransferService
{
[OperationContract(IsOneWay = false)]
string Upload(FileTransferRequest request);
}
The implementation does its thing, and then at the end i create and serialize the object and try to return the string
return ServiceResultSerializer.SerializeAnObject(result);
On the client side i call this service using this class
[System.CodeDom.Compiler.GeneratedCodeAttribute("System.ServiceModel", "3.0.0.0")]
[System.ServiceModel.ServiceContractAttribute(ConfigurationName = "IFileTransferService")]
public interface IFileTransferService
{
// CODEGEN: Generating message contract since the wrapper name (FileTransferRequest) of message FileTransferRequest does not match the default value (Upload)
[System.ServiceModel.OperationContractAttribute(IsOneWay = false, Action = "http://tempuri.org/IFileTransferService/Upload")]
string Upload(FileTransferRequest request);
}

I'm basically taking this project found on this blog: [URL] And trying to make it return a value that the client caller can use I get an error right now that says: The operation 'Upload' could not be loaded because it has a parameter or return type of type System.ServiceModel.Channels.Message or a type that has MessageContractAttribute and other parameters of different types. When using System.ServiceModel.Channels.Message or types with MessageContractAttribute, the method must not use any other types of parameters. Which i have no idea what it means :P I think cuz im trying to change the Service paramaters.

C# - Object Serializable For AJAX - WCF And ViewState

Jun 30, 2010

consider the following class and struct

public class Entity {
public IdType Id {get;set;}
public string Data {get;set;}
}
[TypeConverter(IdTypeConverter))]
public struct IdType {
... any data ...
}

The IdTypeConverter can convert the IdType struct from and to string. Now, what I want is this class to be serializable for AJAX, WCF and ViewState. The senario could be a WCF web service which provides as array of Entity[] to a DataSource. And a custom control which binds to the datasource, saves this class to it's ViewState and sends the data to client side code. This could be achieved easily by simply adding a [Serializable] attribute to all serialized types. But I don't want the IdType to be serialized, but to be converted to a string. Thus the JSON representation should be

{ 'Id'=>'StringRepresentationOfId', 'Data'=>'foo' }

This would analogously be the optimal serialization for WCF and ViewState. Another solution would be to write another class

public class JsonEntity {
public JsonEntity(Entity from) {
Id = from.Id;
Data = from.Data;
}
public string Id {get;set;}
public string Data {get;set;}
}

and use this for JsonSerialization. But I don't like this, because this would imply that the control which is sending the data to the client knows about the Entity type. The actual question is: Is it possible to customize JsonSerialization with attributes without breaking WCF and ViewState serialization? DIT: An answer like "That' impossible" would satify me, since I'd stop trying.

C# - To Be XML Serializable, Types Which Inherit From ICollection Must Have An Implementation Of Add?

Nov 10, 2010

I have CSLA (1.x framework) objects from an existing project that I'm trying to use in a new .Net 4.0 project. The objects are being used in production and I really can't convert them to 2.x or EF without having 2 sets of objects.

In my c# webservice (when I try to run it) I am getting the following error:

To be XML serializable, types which inherit from ICollection must have an implementation of Add(objectname.object) at all levels of their inheritance hierarchy. objectname.objectList does not
implement Add(objectname.object).

Like I said these objects are CSLA objects written in vb.net. I don't know where to look on this one. Is it an issue of .Net 4.0 trying to talk to CSLA 1.x or is it a web service issue (as these objects never used web services originally)?

Does anyone have an idea about where I should look to figure out this issue? Should I suggest converting to CSLA 2.x?

Read An External JSON File Using Json.NET On Page Load?

Dec 29, 2010

I have a text file named gisQuery129.json that is created using Json.NET - [URL] There is an example on how to create a JSON file and I have done that successfully, but I want to read the file on a page load event and add the values to .NET textbox controls for input values in a query. The created file looks like the following:

{
"myData": {
"randomNumber": "129",
"Application": "MyMapApp",
"FeatureId": "ALL",
"Feature": "ALL",
"spatialQuery": "FEATURE_ID= '11111' AND REQ_SEQ_NUM= 1 AND RAND_PARAM= 129 OR FEATURE_ID= '22222' AND REQ_SEQ_NUM= 2 AND RAND_PARAM= 129"
}
}

I want to read the data in the above sample JSON data and then populate my textboxes something like this:

txtRandParam.text = "129"
txtApplication.text = "MyMapApp" and three more text boxes after that.

Implementing JSON Feed On Web Application With JSON.NET?

Nov 18, 2010

I've been tasked with implementing a JSON feed on an asp.net website that will be consumed by 3rd party apps (such as IPhone, Android, etc) and I'd like to follow best practices.

An example of what I'd like to achieve would be something similar to: [URL]

I've chosen the JSON.net api as this seems to be highly recommended.

My Google-fu must be failing me as I can't find a single full example code for an Asp.net web application with JSON.net implemented on it, so I've no real concept of where to begin.

My question is fairly simple:

Should I create this sort of feed as an ASPX, or ASHX file? Or even a .NET Web Service? (Remember that the tools that will be using this feed are on external apps like IPhones, etc)

I created a test feed in both ASHX and ASPX format ... here is the code (I'm using Subsonic to populate the collection) ... are either of these along the correct lines?

ASPX:
