C# - Particular Information Accessible At Masterpage, Page And Usercontrol?
May 6, 2010
I'm fetching some settings out of the database based on a value passed from a query string. Out of these settings, a few will be used in master page, few on my Page and few in my user control (say login control which is a web user control).I've an entity class MySetting for it and there is a method in my data access layer which returns me an instance of MySetting when I pass the value I got in query string.
I don't want to fetch settings from the database multiple times for one request. I'm using asp.net web forms with C# and sql server.
I have Page, MasterPage and UserControl in my project.
So I create basepage class and share some logic, then inherit from System.Web.UI.Page. My problem is I want use single basePage for any type of UI content.
Senario: Masterpage with a UserControl and a child ASPX page
In the past when using this senario I've used an Interface as a way to pass a value from the UserControl (embedded in a master page) to the masterpage code behind then consume that value in the child aspx page.
My question is now that asp.net 4 have arrived is this still a good way to achieve this or is there another or perhaps better way to do it? I've read somewhere that perhaps "delegates" is perhaps another route to take.
MyUserControl.ascx is being used in Content.aspx and is being added programatically. The content page is using MyMaster.Master
MyMaster.Master has a variable which I can access from Content.aspx as I have the @MasterType directive set. What I am wanting to do is the following:
1) Set a value in MyUserControl.ascx
2) Access value from Content.aspx
3) Set value in MyMaster.Master
Step 2 is implemented in the PageLoad of content.aspx as follows:
Control ucControl= LoadControl("/UserControls/MyUserControl.ascx"); UserControls_MyUserControl myUC = ucControl as UserControls_MyUserControl; [code]....
The PreRender handler just sets a value in MyMaster.Master to true. In MyMaster.Master I check that value in PageLoad and try display something if it is true. This does not work.I suspect it has something to do with the Page Lifecycle, but I cannot seem to find which part is wrong.
I've seen code to handle MasterPage events in the content Page, but if I'm loading a UserControl dynamically into the Page, can I handle the event in the UserControl instead?
Basically I have a button on the MasterPage, when it's clicked I need to make the UserControl do something, such as display text or change a value in a form.Failing that, is it possible to make an event from one dynamically loaded UserControl fire in another on the same page? I could then replace the button in the MasterPage with one in another UserControl
The MasterPage displays the NavBar for every page of my site.
The NavBar is constructed from a SQL table using a CustomSiteMapProvider.
I need to pass information from the MasterPage to the CustomSiteMapProvider to get it to display the whole SiteMap or only part of it.
In the CustomSiteMapProvider class I have included a property:
Private vSiteMapID As String <Personalizable(True)> _ <WebBrowsable(True)> _ Public Property SiteMapID() As String
[Code]....
But ViewState is either undefined or gives "reference to a non-shared member requires an object reference" if I import System.Web.UI.PageStatePersister.
I have a usercontrol (ascx) with a DropDownList placed on a MasterPage. It has AutoPostBack=true. I created a SelectedIndexChanged event for the dropdown on the usercontrol, but it does not fire when seleted item changes. The PostBack fires and both current page as well as MasterPage are reloaded but the SelectedIndexChanged is not fired. How can this event be trapped?
i am creating a generalize deleteusercontrol , my aim is that on the listing page where all the records are listed when the delete is pressed i want to display the acknowledgment on the same page up the list. I had little idea to do thatq1) first of all where will i place my deleteusercontrol(in the shared folder?). q2) on and off the deleteusercontrol as the acknowledgment will not be there all the time how would i be doing that on delete press. i don't want to pass any data in the querystring.q3)how would i be passing the records list id and listname to the general deleteusercontrol as it would be same for all the listing
My purpose is to modified some data only for current page in a gridview. I call this function in page load and GridView_PageIndexChanged events. When it's called in page load event, it works fine. But when it's called in PageIndexChanged event, only the rows on the first page in GridView are looped through. For example, if I click page 5, the rowStartIndex becomes 100 = 5 x 20 (my pagesize). The if condition becomes itemsRead >= 100 andAlso itemsRead < 120. But after itemsRead is increased to 19, the For each gridViewRow loop stops and the if condition is never satisfied.
I have a masterpage and inside that masterage is a user control that has a toolbar with a save button. I then have an aspx page that inherits form t he master page. In that page I have and updatepanel. Is it possible to set the post back trigger to the Save button inside the usercontrol?
I have a simple .Net web service. When I visit the /webservice.svc path in a browser .Net renders a nice help page with some sample C# and VB.Net code. How do I stop this from displaying? Also, is there any way to prevent a request for ?wsdl from returning the wsdl file?
URL....I use this one as my login, and I addes hyperlink for Forgot Password. But why I can't access the FORGOT PASSWORD.aspx for every time I click it. And when I login it redirects t Forgot Password. How I can access it without logging in?
I have a ShoppingCart UserControl on MasterPage. I have a following functionality: User adds item to the cart. after clicking the button "Complete Sale" in UserControl the page is redirected to "CustomerInfo.aspx" and after filling the Customer information and clicking on submit which is on CustomerInfo.aspx page i want to call the "Complete Sale" click event of UserControl from "Customerinfo.aspx" page.
I have a MasterPage (MasterPage.master) with 2 child MasterPages (specialMaster.master and standardMaster.master). From the MasterPage.master I need to get at some of the controls in one of the children, specialMaster.master, say for example to hide certain content if a session variable is not null.
Is it possible to call usercontrol methods/events using MSAJAX. I wanted to update my usercontrol by calling one of its events when a property from its parent page changes.
I have 2 masterpages. (Default.master and User.master).I have a hidden field in Default.master then how can i get the hidden field value of Default.master file from User.master.is there any way to access that hidden field like: Request.form("hidID") ?
Creating a membership and user login in VS 2005 - [URL] Settings are windows 7, 64 bit operating system, sql server 2005, sql 2008 and vs 2008 also installed. Page displayed with login previously, but issue was with server instance not correct, which was preventing the created user from logging in, I discovered the database was not even installed in server 2005, new asp.net program was created with new correct instance. Now page will display with http 500 error, unchecked show friendly http error messages, then pages displays blank!. Also there was an issue with the creation of iis application, recreated application in iis 7.5. This process should be simple, but I cant see my detailed errors if the page is blank! and I have enabled the errors in iis and internet explorer 8.
