C# - Set Validation For All Controls In An User Control?
Nov 23, 2010
I am looking for the best way to set the validation group for all of the controls contained in a user control. Most of the controls in the control are created dynamically when the control is loaded. It has quite a few input fields and validators.
I would like to save time by setting the validation for all the controls and validators with some sort of function that could just loop through everything and set it.
It seems though that there is no consistent interface that includes validation group for all of the different controls that have the property.
Should I use reflection to check for Validation group, I know I can do this, but is there a better way?
We are using C# by the way.
EDIT: I put the answer down below for anyone who wants the code.
I have a asp button and a user control containing custom validator in it when i click the button that is present on the page not inside the usercontrol, the user control client side validation occurs and displays the javascript method regarding data entry failure but when i click the javascript alert box ok button, the postback gets occured automatically i want to stop the postback if the user control contains invalid data in iother words the postback get occured only when the user control contains the valid data.
I have already done this type of coding in javascript:
function CheckTimeRangeTo_9(sender, args) { var e = document.getElementById('<%= ddTimeTableTo_9.ClientID %>'); var totalToTimeInMins = CalculateTotalMinutes(e.options[e.selectedIndex].value); var totalFromTimeInMins = CalculateTotalMinutes(args.Value);
I have a user control which contains two text fields each assigned with requiredfield validators this control contains another user control contains say a button .On click of this button i need to validate the fields from the parent control text fields.I try the Page.Validate("ValidationGroup") with Page.IsValid it validates but the error message is not shown .Error message is shown only if i try to validate it from the contains which contains the required field validators ?
I have an ASP.NET user control in which there are two fields (fromdate and todate) which have RequiredFieldValidators associated with them. When saving I want to validate if the fromdate and todate are entered. How do I do that? I have tried Page.IsValid, but it always returns true.
I Have Register Two Control In My Page .. There Is Some Of Validation In My Aspx Page And Validation In User Control . I Was Give Same Name Of Validation Group Same In User Control And Aspx Page Control. But I Post Page Then User Control Validation Not Working..
I have a page on this page I have multiple user control and one of the control is on the user control.
on a button click event I can check all the validatoin which are on the main page, but I can't apply the validation on the user control which is not on focus. On the button click even if that particualar tab is on focus , the validaiton works otherwise it just ignores it.
In my Website I have header control (header.ascx) and footer control (footer.ascx).In header.ascx one textbox and one button is there. Textbox meant for accepting search string.
In footer.ascx one textbox and one button is there. Textbox meant for accepting Email-Id.
Now in validation of header.ascx I had done blank checking by JavaScript. And in validation of footer.ascx I had done blank-checking and e-mail checking by javascript.
In both the control the textbox and the button both resides under Panel control whose DefaultButton property set to the respective button ids. So that if User write write something and press ENTER key from keyboard then it should do whatever respective Button_Clicks will do.
Now My problem is suppose I place the mouse cursor in footer.ascx's textbox and press the ENTER key it validates properly but after that if I place the cursor inheader.ascx's textbox and press the ENTER then it is not working. Again If I do the opposite then also first one will fire but in case of second it is not firing .......
I am facing an interesting issue related to user control validation. I have a strongly typed user control with address entity. I have also created the address entity metadata class with validation definitions. This user control is basically to search and get the address based on the pincode user input. Pincode field is part of the user control and I have defined the required field and regexp validator for pincode field in the address metatdata class.
Now the user control is partially rendered in the customer page where I want to validate the pincode field in the customer page when the user clicks the search button in the user control. But the strange thing is the validation is not working as expected when I click the search button but when I bind the form collection to the entity using update module, I am getting an error. Can anyone help me what all I need to consider in the control ascx page and in the customer aspx page and in the controller?
I don't think I understand fully how ASP.NET does inheritance of controls.I have a user control, ucBase, which has an asp.net label in the ascx file. Code behind references the label and it works fine during run time if the control is not a parent for another user parent.
If I have another user control, ucChild, inheriting from ucBase, the label in ucBase's code is always null. ucChild has no controls in its ascx fileThe server controls (like the label) needs to be declared in the ascx file and not created programmatically. What needs to be done for ucBase to see its own controls when it's a parent user control?
We are developing an application where we have a Form to fill by users. Here is the scenario for some fields:Name : Does not contain numbers like 123 but it can be alpha-numeric like mynangal123 but does not contain special charactersOB : Does contain specific formats like mm.dd.yyyy or dd/mm/yyy or yyyy/mm/dd etc. doesn't contain alphabetsTAXID : Can be Numeric but not numbers like it can be "123" but not 123 also it can be T-125Now, as per requirement we have to validate or prompt the user for specific input if he/she did not enter the specific entry. Like if in name User enter 123456 then there should be a messagebox to warn "please enter a valid name"Restrictions : We have a option of Javascript but its not recommendable in most of scenario so, we need to create a custom validators or something else which will solve our problem.
I have a little doubt about creating a login control in the master page within a contentplaceholder.
What i want is to create my own login control in the masterpage, using a loginview inside a contentplaceholder. The code is the following:
[Code]....
So far so good, but now i want to create the logic to do the actual login. In a regular aspx page i'll do it in the cmdlogin click event, but as i'm in the masterpage, i'm not sure if i can do that. I actually tried to do it in the code behind of the masterpage, but it didn't work. What can do?? do i ahve to use the asp.net login control?
I have a custom user control with some input fields and a submit button. I need to validate the fields using the jquery validation plugin when the submit button is clicked. (The function of the submit button is to create another custom control which displays the data entered in the above mentioned control)
Bt as far as I knw, validation plugin works only with form validation ryt? And my custom control does not contain a form tag as I am using master pages. The custom control is present in one of the content pages and the master page already contains a form tag with a runat=server attribute. And I guess one page can contain only a single form tag with runat=server attrib ryt?
I have a checkbox on my page that must be ticked and to validate it I am using a custom method as below. The problem is that I now put the checkbox and method within a Create User Wizard custom tempalte and when I submit the form it does not activate the validation check. If I put a normal button on the page outside the tempalte it works. Not sure If I a missing something. Perhaps I can activate it in Created User Event handler in code behind. All Button in my create user Event.
I have a web user control that represents a simple message box. It is used to display simple messages like "Item has been deleted", or "The item was saved successfully".
On the other hand, I have another web user control that represents the item in the form of an editable form (I made this a user control because this is used in two different pages). I want to embed an instance of the message box user control inside the editable form. I am writing this right after the @Control directive:
[Code]....
Instead of using @Register directives, I register the user controls in web.config and so far this has worked just fine.
With the above markup, the project compiles, but whenever I try to navigate to a page that contains this construct, I get an HttpParseException exception. Furthermore, Visual Studio states that the tack w7rc9:MessageBox doesn't represent a known control.
I am using one datalist control for uploading multiple images.I hv used one Asp:FileUplaod Control and one button in one itemtemplate.I am using reqired field validator and regular expression validator for file upload cntrl I am assigning validation group for both of them on ItemDataBound event of my datalist so that each upload cntrl hv same validaton group as required field and regular expression validator. Now what i want to do is - i want to show my error message in validation summary which is right at the top of the page.I want one know how to write javascript that will assign validation group of my control in datalist on which i click ?
I have a fileUplaoder control on my form, The file has been uploaded when the user click the button. I wanted to associate a Custom Validator (Or some other validator), that will check
1. File Type (To exclude .exe etc)
2. File size (To restrict user not to upload a file >5MB)
If the above 02 conditions are violated it will stop the user to submit the form and will show the appropriate error messages on the validation summary. (Like the file is larger then the allower size etc etc)
I wanted to use validation summary for this purpose as I am already displaying all validation messages for all controls on the validation summary
I am creating dropdown controls in code behind. in some conditions I need to add validation control to dropdowlist. But Validation not firing when I submit button.
If mQuestion.RequiredToAnswer = True Then Dim mValidator As New RequiredFieldValidator mValidator.ControlToValidate = mDDL.ID mValidator.InitialValue = mDDL.Items(0).Text mValidator.Display = ValidatorDisplay.Dynamic mValidator.ErrorMessage = "* Required!" mTableCell.Controls.Add(mValidator) End If
I have other dropdown controls on aspx page with validation comtrols. Those are working fine. Only when I ddl and validations from code not working?
I have 2 user controls on registered on one aspx page. UserControl1 us having one text box with require field and one submit button.UserControl2 is also having one text box with requirefiled and save button. Expected o/p is- When I am clicking on any button out of 2(submit or save). Then only related text boxof that user control should be validate. But the error is Both text boxes are validate.
I have a set of validation controls on my asp.net page, to validate values in textfields. I also have a calendar control on the same page. When I click on the calendar image, the validation control message box pops up. How can I avoid that from appearing when the calendar icon is clicked?
I have an ASP.NET 4.0 application with some simple user controls. The user controls work fine on the design surface (VS.NET 2010), but when they're loaded during application execution, nothing shows up.
Futhermore, the various child controls of the user controls are null when referenced inside the code behind for the user control.
The code behind for the user control executes as expected, but any reference to child controls are null.
It's like ASP.NET is never parsing the ASCX to create the instances of the child controls.
I have a user control (ascx file) that contains an interface for users to change the data retrieved from the db. So, I am displaying data and most of this data can be edited by the user. When the user enters text into a textbox, and clicks "Save Changes", the value they typed in is lost and not persisted to the database. I realize now this is because the SaveChanges button does a postback, and the user control gets reloaded with its original valuesbefore the code within my SaveChanges button gets executed. I'm not sure if there are properties I need to set to save the input data, or if I need to write my own code to do it. What is the generally accepted method to do this? (Also, all of the controls in the ascx file are wrapped in an Update Panel.)
