C# - Calendar Control Firing Validation Controls?
May 21, 2010
I have a set of validation controls on my asp.net page, to validate values in textfields. I also have a calendar control on the same page. When I click on the calendar image, the validation control message box pops up. How can I avoid that from appearing when the calendar icon is clicked?

I have this code:
protected void registerBtn_click(object s, EventArgs e)
{
bool agencyPictureActive = agencypicture.HasFile;
agencypictureValidator.Enabled = agencyPictureActive;
Page.Validate();
if (Page.IsValid)
{
and this control:
<asp:label runat="server">Logo</asp:label>
<asp:FileUpload id="agencypicture" runat="server"/>
<asp:CustomValidator id="agencypictureValidator"
ValidationGroup="userForm"
ControlToValidate="agencypicture"
ErrorMessage="some error msg" Text="*"
OnServerValidate="checkImageSizeValidate"
runat="server">
</asp:CustomValidator>
I want to validate and save the image along with other form value upon "registerBtn_click" , but the custom validation control of the image does not activate somehow... why?
This is my submit control:
<asp:LinkButton id="btnSubmit" OnClick="registerBtn_click"
ValidationGroup="userForm" Text="Submit" runat="server">
</asp:LinkButton>

I have a textbox, a imagebutton and a calendar control inside a user control to pick the date from calendar and set the selected date inside textbox. All work well except the validation. I tried to validate the textbox's value to be a valid date. If it is not valid date, I want to reselect date from calendar. but looks like if valication failed, I could not reselect date if I did not put a correct date inside textbox. Basically validation requires me to fix invalid date first before I try to select a valid date. but I want to reselect when validation failed.
protected void Calendar1_SelectionChanged(object sender, EventArgs e)
{ // Set Date Time value into the TextBox control
TextBox1.Text = Calendar1.SelectedDate.ToString("MM/dd/yyyy");
// Hide the Calendar control after selecting the date
Calendar1.Visible = false;
}
protected void ImgButton1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Calendar1.Visible = !Calendar1.Visible;
}

Is anyone other than myself having issues with client validation not working all the time? I have MVC3 RTM installed. I'm looking at the LogOn view created with a new Internet Application with the razor engine. Both the User name and Password fields both have the Required attribute. If it enter asdf for the username and asdf for the password and go back and delete the values for both of them, only the error message for the password field comes on. If I keep entering values and deleting them, the validation will eventually trigger for the user name field.

Something strange is going on. I have requiredfieldvalidators on 2 textboxes. I enter data and I cannot click the asp button. but when i remove the validation group I can click the button.
[Code]....
There are 2 boxes within the group
And the lower button. Any ideas why this isn't working? I enter info into all textboxes and I still can't fire the button event. Remove the group and it's fine.

The problem is that when I submit a blank form back to the controller, I get redirected to the "its valid" page, meaning that the form passed validation.
What might I be doing wrong?

I have a calendar control where a user selects a date and then inputs info into a FormView control. Underneath the FormView is a GridView that shows all data from the SelectedDate on the calendar control. However, when the date is selected, all the information from the table ( from all dates ) is displayed.

And the code behind:

I have today developed a page that builds a series of RadioButtonLists, which may or may not be required fields.
As the page varies depending on DB values, I have rendered the controls using .RenderControl().
Unfortunatley I do not have the code to hand right now, but its along the lines of:
RadioButtonList rblQuestion = new RadioButtonList();
rblQuestion.id = question.ID;
// Add ListItems...
RequiredFieldValidator rfvQuestion = new RequiredFieldValidator();
rfvQuestion.ControlToValidate = rblQuestion.ID;
rfvQuestion.ErrorMessage = "*";
I then use .RenderControl on both rblQuestion and rfvQuestion, concatenate into a string then use the HTML String to populate a PlaceHolder.
This seems to work fine, all appears as expected apart from the RequiredFieldValidator - I get a red asterix (My ErrorMessage) next to each RadioButtonList - But this appears as soon as the page loads, not on a post/button click.

I have a custom validator:
<asp:CustomValidator ID="QuestionValidator" runat="server" ErrorMessage="Please select an option" ClientValidationFunction="QuestionValidator_ServerValidate" OnServerValidate="QuestionValidator_ServerValidate" ValidateEmptyText="true"></asp:CustomValidator>
[code]...
When I run the page, there is no validation and no error message. Please can you point out where I am going wrong, I'm suspicious it is at Page.Master.FindControl("form1").Controls.I have previously done such validation by looping through controls via form1.controls but this is unavailable as the page uses a form passed down via the master page.

I have several buttons on a page, but have assigned some validators and AJAX validator callout extenders to one button in particular. However, the validator callout extenders seem to be firing even if I press a different button. I thought this was the point of setting a TargetControlID (for the valiator callout extender) and a ControlToValidate for the validator itself!

I have the following scenario:
arrival and departure dates have to be selected on a form, through 2 textboxes with a calendar extender each.
I validate the entries to check that no date before today is selected and to check that the departure is after the arrival. I used a rangevalidator and a comparevalidator.
In IE, Firefox and Opera it is working fine, in Safari (on windows) however both the validators go off even on entries that should be accepted.
It makes me suspect that the date format dd/MM/yyyy causes trouble for Safari.
(the dd/MMMM/yyyy also gave the same troubles in the other browsers, probably due to the dependency on UIculture)
The code is:
<tr>
<td>
<asp:TextBox ID="txtArrive" runat="server"></asp:TextBox>
<cc1:TextBoxWatermarkExtender ID="txtArriveWatermarkExt" runat="server"
Enabled="True" TargetControlID="txtArrive" WatermarkText="arrival date">
</cc1:TextBoxWatermarkExtender>
<cc1:CalendarExtender ID="ArriveCalendarExt" runat="server"
CssClass="MyCalendar" Enabled="True" Format="dd/MM/yyyy"
TargetControlID="txtArrive">
</cc1:CalendarExtender>
<asp:RequiredFieldValidator ID="RequiredFieldValidator1" runat="server"
ControlToValidate="txtArrive" ErrorMessage="please select arrival date"
Text="*" ValidationGroup="date" Display="none"></asp:RequiredFieldValidator>
<asp:RangeValidator ID="RangeValidator1" runat="server"
ErrorMessage="please make sure that your arrival date is later than today and not later than a year from now"
ControlToValidate="txtArrive" Type="Date" ValidationGroup="date" Text="*"></asp:RangeValidator>
</td>
<td>
<asp:TextBox ID="txtDepart" runat="server"></asp:TextBox>
<cc1:TextBoxWatermarkExtender ID="txtDepartWatermarkExt" runat="server"
Enabled="True" TargetControlID="txtDepart" WatermarkText="departure date">
</cc1:TextBoxWatermarkExtender>
<cc1:CalendarExtender ID="DepartCalendarExt" CssClass="MyCalendar" runat="server" Enabled="True"
Format="dd/MM/yyyy" TargetControlID="txtDepart">
</cc1:CalendarExtender>
<asp:RequiredFieldValidator ID="RequiredFieldValidator2" runat="server"
ControlToValidate="txtDepart" ErrorMessage="Please select departure date"
Text="*" ValidationGroup="date"></asp:RequiredFieldValidator>
<asp:CompareValidator ID="CompareValidator2" runat="server"
ControlToCompare="txtDepart" ControlToValidate="txtArrive"
ErrorMessage="your departure date has to be later than your arrival date"
Operator="LessThan" Type="Date" Text="*" ValidationGroup="date"></asp:CompareValidator>
</td>
<td>
</td>
</tr>
The range validator gets its values in code behind on Page_load
RangeValidator1.MinimumValue = DateTime.Now.AddDays(1).ToShortDateString();
RangeValidator1.MaximumValue = DateTime.Now.AddMonths(12).ToShortDateString();

I am having a problem where my button click event is still firing even though my custom server-side validation is set to args.IsValid = false. I am debugging through the code and the validation is definitely being fired before the button click, and args.IsValid is definitely being set to false once the custom validation takes place, but it always makes its way to the button click event afterwards.

I have a web page with 3 controls:
* Calendar control
* Gridview control for games (uses SqlDataSource1, set to a stored procedure that requires 1 parameter: date)
* Gridview control for videos (uses SqlDataSource2, set to a stored procedure that required 1 parameter: gameID)
This is my intended functionality:
* only control visible at start-up is the calendar control
* user selects a date from the calendar control
* the Game gridview becomes visible, showing games on the date the user selected in the Calendar control
* the user selects a row in the Games gridview
* the Video gridview becomes visible, showing available videos for the game
If I remove the Calendar control, the functionality between the Games gridview and the Videos gridview works as intended:
<asp:GridView ID="GridView1" DataSourceID="SqlDataSource1" DataKeyNames="GameID" AutoGenerateSelectButton="True" runat="server" />
<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:myConnectionString %>" SelectCommand="usp_SeasonSchedule_GetGamesByDate" SelectCommandType="StoredProcedure">
[Code] ....
However, when I add the Calendar control, and change the datasource of the Games gridview to be dependent on the date selected in the Calendar control, the Video gridview no longer works
<asp:Calendar ID="Calendar1" runat="server"></asp:Calendar>
<asp:GridView ID="GridView1" DataSourceID="SqlDataSource1" DataKeyNames="GameID" AutoGenerateSelectButton="True" runat="server" />
<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:myConnectionString %>" SelectCommand="usp_SeasonSchedule_GetGamesByDate"
[Code] ....

I have a custom control that renders a button. I'm trying to attach a server click event but it isn't firing. My code is:
protected override void CreateChildControls()
{
btnRangeGo = new Button();
btnRangeGo.CssClass = "divSearchGo";
btnRangeGo.Text = Resources.CORE_Resource.S0C29; // Go
btnRangeGo.Click += new EventHandler(btnRangeGo_Click);
// Tried with no luck:
// this.Controls.Add(btnRangeGo); // Needed so OnClick gets registered
// Page.Controls.Add(btnRangeGo); // Needed so OnClick gets registered
}
private void btnRangeGo_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
int i = 1;
}
OnRender:
btnRangeGo.RenderControl(writer);

I have a templated user control with single instance template attribute. It works great for everything except the following scenario:
[Code]....
The folder selector uses a tree view that allows people to select a folder, its FolderSelected event works perfectly and the file selector updates with the files. The file selector has a repeater that lists the files in the selected directory. It has a linkbutton for each of the files so that the user can select a file. The problem is that the ItemCommand event of the repeater doesn't fire when the file name is clicked on. The page performs the async postback like it should, but in debug, the method to handle the itemcommand event is never hit. On the same user control to select files there is a button that the user can add files to the folder. When it is clicked, the event DOES fire and the file is added and the control refreshes in the update panel, everything perfect. It seems that because the linkbutton is already in a templated control (which is in a user control, in a templated control), the event isn't firing correctly. I am confused as to why this should be a problem, especially since all the other events (even the custom ones) fire as long as they aren't in another templated control. Since the code is complicated, I didn't want to post it all here.

I have a gridview that has 20 columns in it. 3 of them are date fields. I am using templatefields but not edittemplates, only itemtemplates because the users want to update multiple rows and then update the data all at once. I have a panel with an update panel and a calendar on it and in the grid I have a popup extendar added to the textbox in the cell to make the calendar show but I can't get the value from the popup calendar back to the cell. Does anybody have an example or is there a better way to do this?
Here is my templatefield:
