Web developer newbie question (I am otherwise fluent in C#!):
I need to set up a web site (ASP.NET/C#) that can receive XML posts via HTTP. I haven't the first clue of where to start. Create web site? Web page? Web service? WCF? Can you self-host it, or must it be on IIS? How/where do you catch the post event?
I am currently writing a C# web service which has several methods, one of which has to receive HTTP POST requests. The first thing i have done is alter the web.config file in the web service project as below.

But when i run this i get "The remote server returned an error: (500) Internal Server Error". If i remove the parameter, by removing the stringbuilder and byte code, as well as having no parameter in the web service, it works. So it is obviously a problem with the parameters. I actually want to send more data, and was using a string[] parameter in the web service, but this also failed.
I have create a website and i need to send/receive email from website . I am able to send email through system.net.mail namespace . But it needs an gmail id and password . I want to send email from my website like Username@mywebsite.com and also receive email from another domain like gmail.com . I didn't know how i can perform this task . I don't have a logic .

View 4 RepliesI am developing a website for uploading files to our web server. The site was working last week when I first set up the website. However, I made some changes this morning and copied/pasted my new version on our webserver. Now whenever I enter the URL, I get the HTTP 404 error. The other sites I developed are still working. It is only the new website that is giving this error. I have checked to make sure I am spelling the file names correctly. An test html file loads fine in this subdirectory, but when I change it to the default.aspx, I get the HTTP 404 error.

I'm currently developing a website using ASP.NET MVC.I need this website to communicate with an external API using HTTP Post.
I'm unsure whether I should be coding this up in ASP.NET to perform the http post requet and read the response, or whether I should be coding this up in a c# class.It seems when developing a site, you have the option to chose either for many scenarios.
We are planning to move our website to https, which currently running on only http only. Web site is running on IIS7 in Windows 2008 server. Do I need to update/modify any configuration settings in the website to make it work on HTTPS? Is it fine just installing certifictes?
View 3 RepliesThis has been bugging me for a while now. Whenever I try to share my website link on Facebook or another link-sharing site, the link-sharing site either removes the URL (like it doesn't recognize it as valid) or in Facebook's case - it can't retrieve meta-data automatically.
I'm pretty sure that it used to work. However, Googling / StackOverflowing for this problem is a difficult task, since I have no idea what possibly could create this problem.
I've tried to create a static .HTM file on my website, and that works fine: test.htm
My default home page is a classic ASP (yeah I know, PHP version in the works) which uses IIS 7 URL Rewrite module.

In IIS 7.5 i configured my asp.net website for "http,net.pipe" in "Enable protocols".
Note:
net.pipe configuration is done to call another module within the website (SOA). Every thing worked fine with simple asp.net & net.pipe service invocation calling other module. But When i try to call RIA service from silverlight 4 i get the following error

When I have a HttpHandler class in C#/ASP.NET mapped to a file extension in IIS any file with that extension fails to download/display in web browsers (it's downloaded as a 0-byte file in some browsers and nothing at all in other browsers). After removing the application mapping for the HttpHandler in IIS so it doesn't call the IHttpHandler class in C#, the web browser downloads the file successfully.
This was tested with an IHttpHandler class in C# that has an empty ProcessRequest method.
When I use WatiN to go to a specific web page, how can I fake the HTTP referrer with a query string (i.e. request is from google search with query string q=search_term)? So I can verify that the response header has the 301 redirect for specific referrer URL.

But when deployed at server, it does not get .tried putting try and catch in page_load and in global.asax and I have set Application_Error to redirect to that page and also set <customErrors defaultRedirect to that page also

Background:
We are using the Facebook API and receive back URLs for profile image thumbnails. Unfortunately the protocol is restricted to just HTTP and it doesn't support HTTPS. The page on our site that hosts the thumbnails is always delivered via HTTPS, and if we use HTTP for the thumbnails the user will receive security warnings from their browser.
Solution:
Build an HTTP Handler that "passes through" the image from the Facebook URL, but allow the handler to be called via HTTPS. Before I started coding I thought I could something like this:
Response.OutputStream = WebRequest.Create(FacebookUrlForThumbnail)
but I ended up having to save the image to an object in memory than write the image to the Response.OutputStream using the image save function.

This seems inefficient but I can't find a way of using the HTTP Handler as I orginally intended. Is there way of accomplishing the goal without creating the image memory and just "passing through" the call?
I want to use webservice to send & receive SMS... I know how to send SMS using URL...but dont know how to receive SMS...
