Jan 17, 2011Firstly, I'm a newbie to ASP.net, but have around ten years of ('classic') ASP and VB6 experience.I have spent the last 12 hours or so googling for a solution to this problem, so it's nothing obvious (to myself or anyone else I can find talking about it, at least). Things I have ruled out so far include:1) Lack of SMTP server (fixed)2) Firewall issues3) Web.config <mailsettings> directivesI am developing my app locally (VS-2010, Windows 7 Premium ). When I kick off my application containing a form with the PasswordRecovery control in it, and run the password recovery control, I get the error:

This I figured is because I am running Windows 7, which doesn't have IIS7.5 (and thus an SMTP server) running by default. So I enabled IIS 7.5 in component settings, and lo and behold there it was. However there was no SMTP server included (those kind folk at Microsoft like to randomly remove things in system upgrades).So I dug around and installed a free smtp mailserver "hMailServer", and set it up with a the relay mail server address I use with my O2 email, with default credentials.I ran the test and it confirmed that I was indeed reaching the server OK. It also said I could therefore reference Localhost as my smtp server.I also realised I was missing the web.config <mailsettings> directives, so included (under <system.net> <mailsettings>):

Jul 20, 2010The reason i need to do this is because of Facebook Connect - which is another story, so i'll save you the drama for that. =) Anyway, i have this function that runs on window.onload:

So, i need help in getting the flag "loggedInUsingFormsAuth". I dont care what is in the cookie, just need to know if the current user is authenticated. Why am i doing this? Well, on window load, if the user is logged into Facebook but not on my website (according to the Forms Authentication cookie), i want to reload the page - which allows my ASP.NET website to read the Facebook cookies in the HttpContext and log the user in. I need to do this in JavaScript, because i dont have the Facebook cookies until i call "SomeFunctionWhichGetsFacebookCookies" - which can only be done in JavaScript.
So, how can i work out if the current user is authenticated via JavaScript? Do i have to manually traverse through the cookies, find the one i want, and inspect it? Is this a safe thing to do? Or should i alternatively write out the flag to the client from the server using RegisterClientScript?

I'm always getting null , no matter what I do .

Building An Extranet Loan Status Check Website Using .NET MVC With A WCF Backend?
Feb 13, 2010We are building an extranet loan status check website using ASP.NET MVC with a WCF backend. Its a pretty standard design with the MVC site using a WCF service reference to get customer objects. The ervice uses an Oracle backend + http binding, and won't be hosted on the same server as the MVC site (so we can't use tcp binding to reduce latency).
The problem we encountered is that every call to the service is resulting in a 7-8s response time which is unacceptable for an extranet site and much higher than the 2s magic mark. The service method(s) call 12 stored procedures to create the customer object. The database is, unfortunately, denormalized (we can't change it as its also used by other inhouse production systems) so most of the calls are basic select statements which populate the customer object and its associated objects. The service proxy is properly opened and closed/disposed in the MVC actions so there are no instances of any service connection leaks. A new client proxy is created for every request (i.e., we are not using the singleton pattern for the service). how we can speed this up ?

Description of problem: The site I'm working on has a few pages which send emails. Our site is using Gmail so even though it's a custom domain our email is sent out though Gmail SMTP servers.
Some emails come from the system and some emails come from users in certain groups. I have an SMTP server configured with the admin email for the system e.g. admin@mysite.com This works fine and when I get the email it shows from admin@mysite.comOne of our user groups let's call it "groupA" has an email configured on our domain i.e. groupA@mysite.com When I send the email and specify a from address for the MailMessage object as groupA@mysite.com it still shows up in my outlook as coming from admin@mysite.com I did a little further testing and if I specify both the from address and the ReplyTo as groupA@mysite.com it will show as From=admin@mysite.com but when I choose reply in outlook it shows groupA@mysite.com My best guess is that Gmail is overwriting the From address with the SMTP user to prevent email spoofing.

Mar 17, 2010My kind webhost (1and1) royally asked me to go elsewhere to do something like this.
I have 2 sites. One of them was developed by a .Net programmer. Now I am contracted to implement a PHP site and fetch data from the .Net site.
There is an ASP.Net form that a customer fills and when they hit submit, the data gets stored in SQL Server DB. How do I also store the same data in MySQL parallelly? I cannot directly use some database connectors with ASP.Net since MySQL connectivity is not supported on 1and1 Windows hosting (biz account, no less!).
What I thought of is to publish an RSS feed of entries in ASP.Net site and routinely scrape that data into MySQL on Linux host. It is an overkill, I know. Not efficient.
MVC :: HttpContext.Current.Request.Url.Host Not Correct When Using Host Headers In IIS 7.5
Feb 24, 2011I have one IIS entry with AppPool integrated mode. There are 5 or more host headers assigned. The application pulls data based on the host name from Request.Url.Host. When I have 2 or more sites open at the same time the value of the Request.Url.Host is the same across all the sites. About every 30 seconds it resets itself to the correct value from the last request and shows that value on the other sites. So ultimately the sites are loading the same data. The value in the HOST server variable is incorrect as well.

Jan 9, 2011I'm writing an HTTP handler in ASP.NET 4.0 and IIS7 and I need to generate a file-not-found condition.
I copied the following code from Mathew McDonald's new book, Pro ASP.Net 4 in C# 2010. (The response variable is an instance of the current HttpResponse.)
response.Status = "File not found";
response.StatusCode = 404;
However, I found that the first line generates the run-time error HTTP status string is not valid.
If, instead of the lines above, I use the following:
response.Status = "404 Not found";
Then everything seems to work fine. In fact, I even see that response.StatusCode is set to 404 automatically.
My problem is that I don't want this to fail on the production server. So I'd feel much better if I could understand the "correct" way to accomplish this. Why did the first approach work for Mathew McDonald but not for me? And is the second approach always going to be reliable?

as you can see at image below when a player pushes the movement buttons faster ( without waiting to move completed ) status being aborted so it really prevents walking faster i want to prevent this is from happening ( disable buttons to be pushed so fast until post event completed )
