When I first published my site, I tested it using my gmail account and worked like a charm first try (a rare feat for me ;) ). Now, I'd like to finish it up by having it send the emails from the account at the host. No joy... I asked the host if I had misunderstood the rather unhelpful info in the control panel and they advised that in my web config I should change:
I am trying to get the SMTP Server in IIS7 working so I can use the asp:PasswordRecovery component. I have included a screenshot of my SMTP setup in IIS, the SMTP setup in my web.config file, and my asp:PasswordRecovery component code. I have set it up to not require any authentication settings. I basically want to specify whatever email address I want as the "From" attribute (I'm using a series of noreply* addresses for a web app), like the php mail function that lets you put whatever you want in the from argument. What am I missing? Do I need to install anything else? I'm assuming that when people say "you need an SMTP server to send mail", this is what they're talking about.
I have a GoDaddy shared Windows hosting plan and I'm running into a small issue with multiple domains. Many people have previously reported such an issue, but I am not interested in trying to resolve that problem altogether; all I want to accomplish is to change the format of my ActionLinks.
Issue Let's say the domain that is mapped to my root hosting directory is [URL]. GoDaddy forces mapping of other domains to subdirectories of the root. For example, my second domain, [URL], is mapped to [URL]. I uploaded my ASP.NET MVC site to such a subdirectory, only to find that ActionLinks that are for navigation have the following format: [URL] In other words, even when I use the domain that is mapped to the subdirectory, the subdirectory is still used in the URL. However, I noticed that I can also access the same path by going to: [URL] (leaving out the subdirectory) What I want to achieve I want to have my ActionLinks automatically drop the subdirectory, as it is not required. Is this possible without changing the ActionLinks into plain-old URLs?
I have developed an e-comm web site in asp.net with sql server as a database. Now I want to upload that web site with DB to hosting server. This is my first web hosting and I don't know how to do it.
I've created the DB script to recreate the DB at the hosting server, but I don't know how to run it on server.
What changes need to be done in my connection string in web.config file for connecting the DB which will be on hosting server.
I also have ftp client "Filezilla" which i am able to use for uploading static html pages on server.
I want to send email thought asp.net page for that I need to find SMTP Host and port number below is my code
Dim EMail As New MailMessage EMail.From = New MailAddress(Emailtaxebox.Text) EMail.[To].Add(New MailAddress("sa@gmail.com")) EMail.Subject = Firstnametextbox.Text + lastnametextbox.Text + "Registerd" EMail.Body = " This is content " EMail.IsBodyHtml = True
[code]....
how to find SMTP port and host name ? I used default one its gives me error. No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.
I have a need to generate a barcode on an ASP.NET page. I know how to do this, but the catch is I need this to work on a shared hosting environment. Being a shared host, I don't have the ability to install custom barcode fonts on the server.
Does anyone know of any barcode solutions (possibly open source) that encapsulate fonts in the bin assembly and don't require the barcode fonts to be installed on the server?
i have a web application in which i have a emailing module. in which i am currently using gmail smtp host but i need to allow any or all smtp host account to be used for sending emails like yahoo , hotmail etc.

i want to run an ASP.NET MVC 2 web application on a .NET 3.5 shared-host provider, I will not mention this provider's name. I will refer to this provider as FOO.
The general community that uses FOO states that it can be done, but the Tech Support at FOO are not consistent:
"What is MVC?" or "Yes, but only on dedicated hosts", or "Yes, it can upon both dedicated and shared hosts" -but they do not know the details.
The general community states that FOO can host ASP.NET MVC 2 on shared hosts, but details on how it is done is inconsistent.
What are general rules of thumb about setting up an ASP.NET MVC 2 for a shared-host environment?
Let us say that we create a vanilla (default) MVC 2 web application from withinVS 2008/2010. What modification should I perform, other than use .NET 3.5 andcopy local System.Web.Mvc.
What are the kind of things that would cause a session to timeout. I know the default is usually 20 minutes. A website I have set up for a friends business seems to timeout after a few minutes sometimes. I think it could be them recycling a shared application pool.
I want to be able to run aspnet_regsql.exe to create the membership tables on a shared host. But since, it is a shared host, I can't do that. I however can create the tables on my box. How do I copy them over?
After moving my web site from my local development environment to a shared host I get:
Security Exception
Description: The application attempted to perform an operation not allowed by the security policy. To grant this application the required permission your system administrator or change the application's trust level in the configuration file.
The problem occurs in my web application everywhere the following is called:
Since my web application is only trying to open it's own web.config file, I don't know why this is flagged as a security exception. Maybe someone can explain... But more importantly I need a solution, the couple solutions I found via Google are painful.
I have a website that I have run for years running a custom built CMS. It has had no problems ever. I decided to create a demo (temporary url) of the CMS using the exact same website. Only people I give access to would be able to login and change it, so it basically is not in use for the most part.
I tried this demo site the past few days, and I noticed that I kept getting System.OutOfMemoryException errors. I would wait for an hour or so, then it would work. Next day, same thing.
What could explain this? 2 exact same websites....one that is used all the time (no memory issues), and one that is hardly ever used (memory issues). Doesn't really make sense to me.
I have encountered this problem before on a few shared hosts but cant remember the fix. I have spent almost 2 days googling and I have even gone through 2 external hd's of backups of old projects and read the web.configs but I just cant put my find it and I dont think I am googling the correct terms...
I am using Mysql Connector/Net to store asp session state.
The mysql db is on the hosting server ( I have no mysql locally).
Opening a page locally creates a session in the db.
Opening a page on the host does not.
I have seen this issue before but was a long time ago and I have searched a few of the answered questions here but not too extensive, I'm sick of searching.
I have a single contact.aspx application I want to use on a web host but am confused with the publish feature in VWDE 2010. I can't run any commands or packages and was hoping just to upload the .aspx and .cs files and have jit compile to run them.
Why does VWDE 2010 create a .dll and .pdb in the bin folder of my project? I thought the Express versions of VS didn't produce DLLs? On previous editions of VWDE all I needed to do was copy the .aspx and .aspx.cs pages to the host.
Firstly, I'm a newbie to ASP.net, but have around ten years of ('classic') ASP and VB6 experience.I have spent the last 12 hours or so googling for a solution to this problem, so it's nothing obvious (to myself or anyone else I can find talking about it, at least). Things I have ruled out so far include:1) Lack of SMTP server (fixed)2) Firewall issues3) Web.config <mailsettings> directivesI am developing my app locally (VS-2010, Windows 7 Premium ). When I kick off my application containing a form with the PasswordRecovery control in it, and run the password recovery control, I get the error:
[Code]....
This I figured is because I am running Windows 7, which doesn't have IIS7.5 (and thus an SMTP server) running by default. So I enabled IIS 7.5 in component settings, and lo and behold there it was. However there was no SMTP server included (those kind folk at Microsoft like to randomly remove things in system upgrades). So I dug around and installed a free smtp mailserver "hMailServer", and set it up with a the relay mail server address I use with my O2 email, with default credentials.I ran the test and it confirmed that I was indeed reaching the server OK. It also said I could therefore reference Localhost as my smtp server.I also realised I was missing the web.config <mailsettings> directives, so included (under <system.net> <mailsettings>):
<smtp deliveryMethod="Network" from ="zenid@here.com"> <network host="localhost" defaultCredentials="true" port="20" /> </smtp>
The question: Is it possible to configure multiple SMTP servers or update the SMTP object server information at runtime?
Description of problem: The site I'm working on has a few pages which send emails. Our site is using Gmail so even though it's a custom domain our email is sent out though Gmail SMTP servers.
Some emails come from the system and some emails come from users in certain groups. I have an SMTP server configured with the admin email for the system e.g. admin@mysite.com This works fine and when I get the email it shows from admin@mysite.comOne of our user groups let's call it "groupA" has an email configured on our domain i.e. groupA@mysite.com When I send the email and specify a from address for the MailMessage object as groupA@mysite.com it still shows up in my outlook as coming from admin@mysite.com I did a little further testing and if I specify both the from address and the ReplyTo as groupA@mysite.com it will show as From=admin@mysite.com but when I choose reply in outlook it shows groupA@mysite.com My best guess is that Gmail is overwriting the From address with the SMTP user to prevent email spoofing.
I found this: http://www.systemnetmail.com/faq/4.1.aspx but it won't work for me since group A, B, and C all need to send emails from the same page.
My kind webhost (1and1) royally asked me to go elsewhere to do something like this.
I have 2 sites. One of them was developed by a .Net programmer. Now I am contracted to implement a PHP site and fetch data from the .Net site.
There is an ASP.Net form that a customer fills and when they hit submit, the data gets stored in SQL Server DB. How do I also store the same data in MySQL parallelly? I cannot directly use some database connectors with ASP.Net since MySQL connectivity is not supported on 1and1 Windows hosting (biz account, no less!).
What I thought of is to publish an RSS feed of entries in ASP.Net site and routinely scrape that data into MySQL on Linux host. It is an overkill, I know. Not efficient.
I have one IIS entry with AppPool integrated mode. There are 5 or more host headers assigned. The application pulls data based on the host name from Request.Url.Host. When I have 2 or more sites open at the same time the value of the Request.Url.Host is the same across all the sites. About every 30 seconds it resets itself to the correct value from the last request and shows that value on the other sites. So ultimately the sites are loading the same data. The value in the HOST server variable is incorrect as well.
When I am inserting or deleting rows with my database gridview, the page refreshes to show the changes.
I happen to have multiple gridviews on one page, organized within a css/jquery tabbed panel, so that you only see one gridview depending on the tab that is clicked on. I have also setup the page to add a page number to the url based on the tab. For instance, my page url is www.website.com/default.aspx. When I click on a tab it will add a page number like so: www.website.com/default.aspx#2.
The problem is that when there is a page refresh, the web page refreshes the page default.aspx. So if my current url is default.aspx#2, it doesn't show that page when the web site refreshes. It shows default.aspx. how I would make the page return to the current url. When I make a change on a gridview within tab #2 I want the page to refresh and return me to page #2 again.
Right now I have the from address in the code behind file set but I want it to reflect the email address entered in the form for reply purposes once I receive the email. How do I do this? Here is my code behind script:
I have a web site [URL] which had users profiles and accounts, and each user has his own user account name, I want once the user enter the url then his account user name after that to redirect him to his account page
ex. a user account name is xxx once he go to url [URL] it will automatically redirect him to [URL]
