View 2 RepliesI am planning to build a news publication website that should be automatically scalable when traffic is increasing. I have good experience in developing web applications using ASP.NET and PHP. To move forward on selection of specific technology here are some questions for which I need some clarifications.
My primary intention is to reduce the hosting charges. If we choose LAMP this will cost lower than ASP.NET on Windows. As my intention is to host web application on cloud service, will this make any difference? Means, for dedicated servers we need to pay extra cost for Windows O/S if you compare it with Linux. If we go for cloud servers, will they charge anything for O/S for each instance or will they just charge on computation hours irrespective of Operating System?
Do we have complete control (like dedicated server) on cloud instance to install any other softwares?
Do we need to host web server and and database server on multiple instances when traffic is increasing or will a big size instance can handle huge traffic?
I cannot explain the functionality actually. I want to rotate the links in spheric form. Visit this [URL]. On this site, see the region "Chemical formulas" in middle-left of the page, where links are rotating in spheric, circular form. I want this functionality using jQuery / jQuery in ASP.net application.

View 1 RepliesI developed a web service in VS2010 on my local machine, wrote a consumer of it also locally, and that all works.
I copied the dll and the asmx file to our server, and I am getting an error when I try to invoke it from a browser (also still on the server machine) to make sure it correctly exposes its web methods, but it is not, it is saying "Could not create type 'Service'". That error comes from this line:
Line 1: <%@ WebService Language="C#" CodeBehind="~/App_Code/WarrantyDuplicate.cs" Class="Service" %>
There other web services in the same folder on the server that all work fine so I don't believe it's an IIS setup thing.
This is my first web service in C# and when I created it in VS I did think it odd that the code behind file went into App_Code (as you can see from the line in the asmx file) and is just named dot-cs rather than asmx-dot-cs. But since it worked fine locally, I wasn't sure that mattered.
How to create an instance of web service without adding web service reference? How to identify the server address/name where the web service is hosted from C# code?

Here's what it briefly does:The front end accepts user's requests and adds them to a DB tableA Windows Service running in the background picks up the request, processes it and sets a flag.The Windows Services also creates a file for the user to download

I am currently building a web application that will involve many servers to get it to run efficiently. I am trying to test this web site at home and I have a few computers running the website. To connect to the website I would type this into the address bar http://192.168.0.200:8080 or I would typehttp://192.168.0.201:8080. However when I transfer my site from one computer to another the web browser can no longer read the cookies. I would like to set up a home DNS server and have the computers in my house access the site like this w1.MySite.com and w2.MySite.com instead of http://192.168.0.200:8080 or I would type http://192.168.0.201:8080 so I can test if my cookies are working accross subdomains. how to set up a local DNS server so I can do this?

Normally my application is working fine.After I host my asp application on IIS I get an exception "internal error", when I try to execute the below lines of code.
where CertificatePath = C:inetpubwwwroot......
X509Certificate2 cert = new X509Certificate2(CertificatePath, CertificatePassword);
var serviceManagment = ServiceManagementHelper.CreateServiceManagementChannel(EndpointConfigurationName, cert); var listServices = serviceManagment.ListHostedServices(SubscriptionId);
I suppose the application is not able to read the IIS certificate.I am trying to connect to windows azure cloud for which the certificate is required to get list of hosted services from cloud.

Rackspace will not install the MSChart.exe package on the Rackspace Cloud Sites servers.
I installed VS2010. Then The Azure toolkit. I created a new solution, with one webrole in it. I added 'HelloAzure' to the default.aspx, and then pressed f5 to run it.
It runs! I see my text 'HelloAzure' in IE8. Yeah!
Now, when I close IE8, it seems that VS2010 simply hangs, is frozen. It accepts no input from mouse/keyb. Nothing moves ... you know ... it hangs.
Taskmanager is required to get out if this state.
I am having a simple Azure cloud app(WebRole=ASP.Net MVC) which draws charts using ASP.Net Charting control. Chart RenderType = ImageMap Chart ImageLocation = "/Images/Chart_#SEQ(1000,1)" Number of app instances deployed on Windows Azure = 5 App contains a button which draws charts as per users parameters. When user clicks on this button, MVC action is called which provides necessary ViewData for drawing chart and returns a partial view which after getting rendered sends ImageMap and Image location to client.
When I try to draw charts from IE8 I always get the charts as per my parameters but when I simulataneously try to draw charts on FireFox sometimes I get wrong charts(wrong images). Is is due to roundrobin used - #SEQ(1000,1) or due to mutiple instances of my cloud app?
can I create more than one method on a web service? Because the other method does not exist when I set my web service to be the start page. I created a web service for my autocomplete.

I simply want to create a fairly basic REST service, so that I can expose some of the data in my asp.net/SQL server application to the outside works, like this.....
http://domain.com/api/offices - would return an xml set of office locations. http://domain.com/api/offices/15 - would return all the details of office 15.
It's all fairly standard stuff (including basic authentication) but there seem to be several ways to achieve this using Microsoft technologies and I don't really know where to start. These seem to be the options...
1) WCF
2) ASP.NET MVC
3) ADO.NET Data Services
4) Rest Starter Kit project templates?
Which of these is the easiest and most "up-to-date" solution to creating a web service?
I am sending a request to a web service which requires a string containing XML, of which I have been giving an XSD.
I've ran xsd.exe and created a class based on this but am unsure of the best way to create the xml string to send, for example a stream, XMLDocument or some form of serialization.
UPDATE
I found this here
public static string XmlSerialize(object o)
{
using (var stringWriter = new StringWriter())
{
var settings = new XmlWriterSettings

which lets me control the tag attribute.

I encounter new problem. Being requested to create WEB SERVICE and link it to the normal ASP.NET Web Forms.
show me the step by step procedures to create WEB SERVICE and How to link it to the ASP.NET Web Forms and also how the Command Button in ASP.NET Web Forms will use the FUNCTION from WEB SERVICE.
Currently, the WEB APPLICATION fold is at F:SalesWebApplication.
