View 1 RepliesI created a database with aspnet_regsql, the database was created in sql sever 2008 and not in data folder in my project (do I need to move it to the folder manually?). Next, in Web Site Administration Tool I went to provider section and clicked don Test button.
I got an error:
Could not establish a connection to the database. If you have not yet created the SQL Server database, exit the Web Site Administration tool, use the aspnet_regsql command-line utility to create and configure the database, and then return to this tool to set the provider.
Maybe I need to set something in a web.config, like membership settings or connection strings (or ASP.NET Website Administrator Tool should create those settings for me)?
Update: Maybe it happens because I am using SQL server 2008 full and not express?
Update 2:
After setting membership section and connection string to my aspnetdb database in Web Site Administration Tool I've opened security->Security Setup Wizard->Define Roles (stage 4) I got this error:
An error was encountered. Please return to the previous page and try again.
The following message may help in diagnosing the problem: Unable to connect to SQL Server database. at

I'm looking for a way to create a login control without the use of web admin tool
Here are my system requirements
Windows 7 Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition ESET Anti-virus but SQL and Studio files excluded from being scanned. I have got a database. I've created the front end of the user login control manually not using the toolbox. Basically what I need is that once a user has registered. He then logs in. when he enters his username and password how do I code it so the database realises it's him/her and takes them to their LOGGED IN user
I've been reading about asp web administration tool. I read about creating roles and stuff and forcing a controller to use authentication in order to be viewed. My question is, say create on the administration tool a user called Peter and I assign him the Administrator role. Then I want to create another role called LimitedAdministrator. But I want Peter to create new users on his View (I'm using MVC). Can anyone point me in the direction of how to do this.
I want peter to see on his page, like "Create user" and this user will be created as a LimitedAdministrator.
o not know in which forum to post my query. If a user tries to contact through a Contact us form then how the administrator will come to know about it ? I mean what are the ways to inform the administrator that a user has contacted him ?
View 7 RepliesIs there a way to reset a user's password while logged in as an administrator? I just had to delete a user and re-create him in order to achieve the same affect of resetting his password, so I'm wondering if there is a better way to reset a password.
View 1 RepliesI noticed this server control is unique in that even though you can convert it to template, you still cannot access the Create User button, unlike most composite user controls, where every child control is accessible after you convert the server controls to templates.
View 1 RepliesI've created a page to add users, using the CreateUserWizard, I use the Login Control to login.
I have setup the config file to use my SQL server, not express
<remove name="LocalSqlServer"/>
<add name="LocalSqlServer" connectionString="Data Source=xxxx.xxxx.xxxx.xxxx;Initial Catalog=aspnetdb;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=xxxx;Password=xxxxxx" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
I go to the create user page, add a user.
I can SEE the user on the database using Server Management Studio...
I go to signon and get "Your login attempt was not successful. Please try again."
I have not customized the login control in any way. (OR the createuserwizard)
HOW can I tell where the Login tool is going to get userid and password info?
How can I tell if it is not finding the user or the password does not match?
I have a custom ASP.NET application which is hosted in the SharePoint _layouts directory. The code uses the object model to do certain actions on a SharePoint list. I'm receiving the following error when trying to perform

When I give my user account administrator rights on the server it works fine, so it's a permission problem, but can't figure out what it is?
I've built a new sharepoint site page using the example I found here:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/kaevans/archive/2010/06/28/creating-a-sharepoint-site-page-with-code-behind-using-visual-studio-2010.aspx.The purpose of the page is to add a new user to the aspnet membership database that serves as the authentication provider for my sharepoint site,which uses forms based authentication.I've slightly customized the asp createuser control.The sharepoint site is forms based but the top level site is accessible anonymously, and I've created a subsite for members (hence the user registration page). The site page is in the top level site so that people can register.If I'm already logged in and fill out the form, the user is successfully added to the membership store, however if I access the page anonymously and fill out the form, the user is successfully added to the membership database, but I can no longer navigate the website,I keep getting http 500 page cannot be displayed errors until I clear the browser cache and cookies.
create a site with good security that validates, as website normally do, that the user has loged in. Im using sql server 2008 and VS2015. I've created a simple login form that validates users against a DB but i dont know how to preserve de session and validate that thought pages.
View 3 RepliesI have a requirement where I have to transfer a user from Web Site 1 on Server A to web Site 2 on Server B.
On Web Site 1, I have to provide controls to enter user id and password and which have to be validated on Web Site 2 on server B, after validating them I have to redirect the user to Web site 2.
what is best way fo doing it. code examples are greatly appreciated.
Note: On Web Site 2, user login functionality is already existing and it is provided by ASP.Net login control, am not sure how to handle the user login process from two different places.
or is it the best way to move Web Site 2 from Server B to Server A so that, the same login controls will be shown using Iframe on Web Site A.
I work at web design and development Company , we create and managed a lot of web sites , and we usually create FTP and sqlserver backup manually .I want to know the best tools to create backup automatically ( Free or not free)
View 2 RepliesMy boss has it in his head that we need to be monitoring our websites more to see what king of traffic we are getting for but internal and external sites.
View 2 RepliesI created a database in my local sql server, and ran aspnet_regsql.exe on it, which created all the user and membership tables. However, when I click on the "Asp.Net Configuration" button in VS (2010), it open the Asp.Net Web Site Administration Tool, but with an error that say "An error was encountered. Please return to the previous page and try again." (of course there's no "previous page". What is one to do here?
My solution consist of several class libraries (domain, contracts, services, etc, etc) and a Asp.net MVC project. In my web (mvc) project's web.config, my connectionstrings looks as follows (just guessing this matters):
Code:
<connectionStrings>
<add name="ApplicationServices"
connectionString="Data Source=LAP00281;Initial Catalog=ClientManager;Integrated Security=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
<add name="ClientManagerEntities" connectionString="metadata=res://*/ClientManagerDB.csdl|res://*/ClientManagerDB.ssdl|res://*/ClientManagerDB.msl;provider=System.Data.SqlClient;provider connection string="Data Source=LAP00281;Initial Catalog=ClientManager;Integrated Security=True;MultipleActiveResultSets=True"" providerName="System.Data.EntityClient" />
</connectionStrings>
(only reason i want to use this is actually to create two roles, admin and client)
I'm new here. Noticed that most posts are related to WebMatrix as a tool, not WebMatrix-WebPages programming. Also WebPages does not require WebMatrix at all. Perhaps there's another forum for WebPages, otherwise I would suggest to split this forum into two. WebMatrix | WebPages,

Can this corce by insufficient permission?
i am trynig to connect to sql server 2005 express with Web Site Administration Tool in visual studio 2008 but i got this error in security tab: There is a problem with your selected data store. This can be caused by an invalid server name or credentials, or by insufficient permission. It can also be caused by the role manager feature not being enabled. Click the button below to be redirected to a page where you can choose a new data store.

I am having some major headaches trying to get a Web Dev 2010 and SQL Server Express 2008 R2 to work together. At one point I hade Web Dev Express 2008 and SQL Express 2008 working together just fine, then I upgraded to 2008 Express R2 and have never been able to recover.
I have attempted to uninstall and reinstall several times, browsed the forums, watched videos, and while I have picked up a few things, I am still far from being able to get these two apps to work together for basic user authentication.
Here is where I am at. Web Dev Express 2010, .Net 4.0, and SQL Server Express 2008R2 installed. I have ran the .v4 aspnet_regsql.exe app against SQLEXPRESS, but when I bring up the Web Site Admin Tool, it cannot connect.
My machine.config connectin info is: [Code]....
Thinking that I may have some uninstalled connection info causing problems, I reviewed several of the security videos on this site, and decided to attempt to use my own database install rather then the default ASPNETDB.
So I now have 2 Database Engines (SQLEXPRESS and LOC). I created a new databases on LOC, named LOC and AspNetServicesDB. I then created users named LOCADMIN and AspNetServicesUser, made then the owners, and set the default database for eacg.Next I ran aspnet_regsql.exe from the v4.0.30319 folder, connected successfully, and installed the tables under AspNetServicesDB. The new tables (roles, membership, profiles) were installed. I then proceeded to copy the above machine.config connection info to the web.config file, and modified it as Joe Stagner did in this video. My edited web.config info:
[Code]....
Note that password is set to the real password in my config file.
Yet when I bring up the Web Site Administration Tool test the single provider, I get this error:
[Code]....
login control portion of Murach's web dev w/ c# book. According to the books instructions, you create a Login.aspx page, add the login control to the page, and create the users and roles for the directories within the asp.net web site configuration tool. I still do not get prompted for user name and passord to access the pages I want to be secured. Why is this? Isn't the asp.net configuration tool supposed to edit the web.config file? I'm trying to follow the book to the letter and ensure that I am following correctly before posting for answers online. According to the book you do not have to edit anything or write code withing login.aspx page.
View 3 RepliesI get the following error while running ASP.Net Web site administration tool: ASP.Net Web site administration tool I am using visual web developer 2008 express edition and windows XP pro version 2002 service pack 3. I am following Microsoft Visual web developer 2008 express edition by Eric Griffin and in chapter 4 I need to use the administrator tool to set up passwords.
View 1 RepliesI have just installed Visual Studio 2010 trial. Previously I have been using Visual Studio Web Developer 2010 Express. Now every time I try to invoke the ASP.net Cofiguration tool either via the icon or through the Project File Menu item, I get the error message "An error was encountered. Please return to the previous page and try again." I am trying to develop a bog standard Silverlight Business Application. There are no other diagnostics. Is there anywhere I can look for more clues or anything else to do to alleviate the problem? or is this something peculiar to the trial version I am using?
I also think it might have something to do with the fact that I have created this Silverlight Business App on a directory on my D: drive and not the normal, default c: drive path and maybe the web sit admin tool is looking somewhere else. Could this have something to do with it? If so what is my remedy?
I have a question with this tool. I have a database listed in the App_folder, and the database has a connection in Server explorer. The connection string is listed in the web.config file, and I am able to add users and roles with the Web Admin Tool. However,when in the Web Admin Tool, under Configuration tab, I receive an error when I click on the "test" button. The error reads " Could not establish a connection to the database.If you have not yet created the SQL Server database, exit the Web Site Administration tool, use the aspnet_regsql command-line utility to create and configure the database, and then return to this tool to set the provider."
View 6 RepliesI am having deployment issue with AjaxControlToolKit.dll. I copied the DLL to my local bin dir, and it works fine. But when I do the build on test server, the files are not in Visual Source Safe anywhere, so the site doesn't work. What could be the issue?.
