As I know, the inline expression in the attributes of server control can't be parsed but the binding expression should if we invoke the DataBind method. But the above case breaks the rule.
I'm trying to build a webpage without using any asp.net data binding controls ( listview, repeaters etc.)that I'm trying to do is to use stored procedure to get all necessary items, loop through them, and bind to labels, images etc.The problem is when i want to repeat .aspx code. I'm able to do everything i want in c#, but it's really pain to create all the necessary html elements such breaklines, spans, textboxes and so on.I tried to use expression builders, but it only repeats the last value from database.
Here is my code(ASPX): [Code].... c# code: [Code]....
Using an objectdatasource I would like to pass an entire DataItem to a function, within a databinding statement. I have found a way that works, but I don't like the look of it. ;-)
Lets say I have a class called "People", with two properties "firstName" and "lastName". I have an objectdatasource which returns a list of "People", and I use that to populate a Repeater.
I also have a function called "GetFullName", which takes a "People" object as it's parameter, and returns the lastname and firstname with a comma between them.
In the ItemTemplate of the repeater, I could do this:
I'll use Customer and Addresses as an example rather than explain my real objects. Say I have a repeater bound to a collection of Customers and one of the properties of Customer is an array of addresses. How do I bind to the addresses property? I don't even need to display this information I just want to use it in the Repeaters ItemDataBound event. So I tried to bind a hiddenField to the addresses property but all I get for every customer in the hiddenfields value is an empty array of addresses.
I have an ASCX that inherits from a WebControl that has a 'CustomConfiguration' property of type CollectionConfigurationItem. This configuration gets set elsewhere in the code, so by the time it gets to the ASCX it is set up to how I wish to use the data. At this point I'd like to render out another control using this configuration, like so:
However, breaking into DataModule always results in 'CustomConfiguration' being null, which is the default value for the property. I've tried adding a Bindable attribute to the property but to no avail, and when I set an EventHandler for the DataBinding event on the DataModule it doesn't even get called.
How can I set this custom-class-typed property from the markup or, failing that what's the second-best method of getting this to work?
I have a gridview databound to an objectdatasource. Everything worked great until I changed 2 columns from asp:BoundField to asp:TemplateField. These are the UPC column and the Part column. I wanted to show a link button for each of these fields that take the user to another page. Now asp.net expects these two fields to be parameters on the update store procedure. Why is this? How do I get it to not assume these columns need to be passed to the store procedure?
I have a Microsoft ASP.NET chart control. When I bind it to SQL data, it displays nothing. I used a DataList to bind the same data and there are results. Here is the code. What am I doing wrong?
(p.s. the code is below)
<%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeFile="Default2.aspx.cs" Inherits="Default2" %> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head runat="server">
Quick question here. I'm sure it's possilbe, just can't get it to work.
I've got a gridview. In have a gridview. The gridview is bound to a list of my custom class. The class exposes a link to an image as well as the image's height and width. I have a Image Control in the gridview. I've bound the Image Url to the correct property. Now, I'd like to bind the height and width properties as well. But everytime I do that I get the following error:
Cannot create an object of type 'System.Web.UI.WebControls.Unit' from its string representation '"<%#Bind("GetImageHeight()")%' for the 'Height' property.
How can I prevent ASP.NET page from automatically binding data controls on the page? I want to increase performance and I want to do binding of each data control based on my own order.
I have a repeater control populated with data binding expressions like in the expression below...
[Code]....
I want to be able to redirect a user to default link if the LinkURL value is empty, that is for each data item, there will be a check if the LinkURL field contains a value. If not, a default value will be supplied.
I'm trying to use the validator to work on a email form to ensure that they enter a valid from email address. That part works. I also want to add to the expression the text that I pre-populate in the txtbox ("Enter your email address") so on postback, after sending the message, I can clear the fields and repopulate that box.
How do I add that wording to the current expression: w+([-+.']w+)*@w+([-.]w+)*.w+([-.]w+)*
I am using Regular Expression validator for a text box. The below is working fine.It is not performing validation when I enter values like 0000..001.How can I modify validation expression? But it would allow values like 100,...5000 i.e zeros after a number.
<asp:RegularExpressionValidator ID="reg2" runat="server" ControlToValidate="rng2" ValidationExpression="^[0-9]+" ErrorMessage="*Please Enter a Valid Number for Second Range." ForeColor="Red" Font-Bold="True"></asp:RegularExpressionValidator>
I need some help in regular expression.I am validating the textbox text when updating the records. When i click the update button, the first 5 letters should be equal to CM000 or cm000.How to validate this using regular expression in asp.net. does anyone know validationexpression for this.
What's the difference between binding for example a column called ("Name") in both cases ? and is there's any performance difference ?1- Assigning the data in the mark-up
2- defining a control object for every control inside the repeater ItemTemplate and find it and then assign the data in the column "Name" to ite.Item.FindControl("Name_Lbl")
Working on an ASP.NET 4.0 project, which uses user controls to dynamically generate a form based on definitions stored in the database. One form field would look like this:
[code]....
Behind the scenes the control emits a RegularExpressionValidator based on the RefControl.ValidationFormat property.
This works fine, however the problem is that this architecture only allows us to validate with regexes. Now I need to add date format validation, based on the user's preferences (which aren't dependent on their UICulture).
Reluctant to refactor the entire user control setup, I need to be able to pass a on-the-fly regex pattern to the ValidationFormat property. Currently I'm using a data binding expression to bind the property to a page instance method:
[code]....
Works okay on first page load, but on subsequent postbacks the validation doesn't work. I think the issue is that the data binding expression doesn't evaluate at all, but I'm not sure I understand why. I'm calling Page.DataBind() in Page_Init whether Page.IsPostBack or not, so shouldn't this work?
If you see I'm barking up the wrong tree, any alternative solutions to the same problem are also welcome.
EDIT
Managed to solve this problem. The issue was with the way ASP.NET page life cycle invokes the user control's events before the page's own events. The control values were being initialized before the data binding on the page could happen.
Because I still need to do the control initialization before Page_Load to subscribe the controls to viewstate, I simply moved the initialization logic to the Page.InitComplete event so the call to Page.DataBind() could get called first.
