How can I prevent ASP.NET page from automatically binding data controls on the page? I want to increase performance and I want to do binding of each data control based on my own order.

I have a need for a GridView (that is initially hidden) to skip the binding to the associated SqlDataSource until the user requests a certain condition. At that point, I want to modify the SelectCommand and bind the Gridview.
I am unable to find an attribute that essentially says "don't bind this". What am I missing?
I have a DataGrid bound to an ObjectDataSource, as you know once the DataSourceID on DataGrid is set, data binding happen automatically without any coding. But due to requests from end users, I need to prevent the data binding when the page is loaded the first time, i.e. data binding should only happen during PostBack. How do I do that?
View 3 RepliesI wonder if there is a clevcer way of setting the correct page of a DetailsView after inserting new data? I have a DetailsView bound to a LinqDataSoure. Now, if I use this DetailsView to insert new data, everything works fine, except the fact that the DetailsView switches back to the "old" page index after leaving InsertMode.
This is somehow understandable, because it can't know which index the new entry will have, but unfortunately neither do I. So I was looking to the LinqDataSource_Inserted event where I can get the new Entry, but because the DetailsView.SelectedValue is read only, I can't just set it to the new entry. So. I might have to use the PageIndex property, but then I would need to know the index of the new Item, which I don't have either.
So, my only idea know is to store some information from the new entry, wait until everythings bound again, loop through the DetailsView to find my new entry an set it's index for PageIndex. But also here I have two problems:
1) The new entry (e.Result from LinqDataSource_Inserted) has not yet filled it's primary key, as this is of course created in the DB, so it's very difficult to identify the new entry properly
2) I don't know how to access each DetailsView page information without actually making it the active page.
So, my question, is there a clever way of doing this? In the past, I've been using SqlDataSource. Although the problem is basically the same, I could solve the two major problems by 1) Insert with Stored procedure which gives the new primary key back and 2) run through
"(((System.Data.DataRowView)MyDetailsView.DataItem).DataView.Table.Rows[i].ItemArray[0])"
to compare the keys. Both I can't get to work with LinqDataSource.
Some say it is not a bug it is default in asp.net. but for me it is a bug in logic. When you say refresh it should be reload the component that you are refreshing. But in asp.net i notice that they recalling all activity and viewstate like event and data that are triggered in the previous postback. My opinion it is a redo not refresh. this is only my observation on the issue dont hate me on this microsoft fan.

How to automatically refresh a page after some time interval?
In my website, I want to automatically refresh the page data(from database) after some time interval. I dont want to use any button click event to update the page data.
I have a listview to display items from database and I need to automatically select the first item when the page first loaded, how can I do it?My listview is in one of the steps of a wizard control, and this wizard control is inside a popcontrol extender with updatepanel.

Now i have to go to another address and back to se the updated record.
i cant even press f5 because then it just duplicates the record with the same text from the formview even if the fields in the formview are empty.

I have an issue that I've spent quite a bit of time trying to solve. I have a Detailsview and a Gridview that I have linked using the ID field, It has now been decided that they want to have individual pages for each Unit. I have this working for the most part, however the detailsview is not being displayed until I hit select the row in the gridview.
How do I get this to automatically display on page load?

The issue I am facing is that the current page URL is getting appended to the 'LinkAddress'(the URL being fetched from the database) and thus,the final URL formed is not a valid one.Can someone suggest how do I remove the current page URL? Is there any way it can be done without writing code in the code behind page?
I have a datasource (quite heavy to run) and a Gridview on the page.
By default when the page is loaded the datasource and Gridview bind and display. However since the datasource is heavy I want on page load these 2 will not bind.

The problem with my web application is when ever i load the home page - The master page as well as content page loads ---This seems fine but when i navigate thorugh the website which have the same Master page but diffrent content page .... the master page loads again. I've been using a repeater to build a website's site map page by binding to the web.sitemap file. For example, to display 2 levels of links:

So far, everything works well. However, in some cases, I do not want to display certain pages in the site map. I've added a custom attribute to each node (nodisplay= 'true').How can i check for this attibute, and avoid it from being displayed by in the repeater.
Every time I create a new aspx page and add some new photos and text, after I finish, I have to update page title, Web.sitemap, Sitemap.xml to feed search engines, static sitemap.aspx page, add photos to proper folders, update database to display feeds etc, and I have to remember to upload all new files including links to any new pdfs....This routine eats my time and drives me crazy.
I was wondering if there is such interface, where you need to create only 1 aspx page, for example "Articles" which can populate Texts, photos etc into pre-defined sections, but at the same time it displays with different URL's, so there is a permanent link to it. After you finish it creates a title automatically, based on article title, populates Web.sitemap - does all the dirty work. Similar to how blog engines, Joomla and Drupal work.
