ADO.NET :: EF4 Entities / Create Entities, For Instance, That Only Contains Contact Details Of Client Table?

Nov 16, 2010

I have a datamodel with a couple of tables. One of my tables have about 40 fields (I know that is a lot, but we have to keep the structure in place as we are upgrading a classic ASP project to MVC). Some of my Actions only updates 1 or 2 fields in my table.

Is there a way to create Entities, for instance, that only contains the contact details of the client table, and not any other details, and then another entity that contains only the address details. I don't want to submit the entire row when I only update telephone details, or the client's picture.

ADO.NET :: LINQ To Entities - Getting The Value Of The Rows By Column?

Nov 17, 2010

All I am trying to do is query the database, then get the returned values, so that I can do some calculations. But, I don't understand how to get the values from the database row that is returned, so that I can assign it for usage.

I would like to do something where the logic goes: for the index of [1] (which is just column 1), multiply it by 2. For the index of [2] (which is just column 2), multiply it by 3.

Example below:

This does NOT work:

C# - Temp Table In LINQ To Entities?

Nov 4, 2010

I have a table of user ids that is huge.

I have an array of user ids that I want.

I have two tables that have a foreign user id key.

What is the best way to get this information performance wise?

Ideally in SQL the final result would be somewhat like this (null values if there is no user ID in one table but not the other):

userid table1value table2value
1 null 12
5 123 null

ADO.NET :: Select Name Column From The Applicant Table And Value Column From ApplicantValue Table?

Feb 2, 2011

I am quite new to LINQ, and I am stuck with this probably basic problem, but haven't been able to find a solution, so I thought I could ask here.

So, I have this repository where I put my functions for data accessing, and now I need to write a function to get all the applicants that have applied for this particular advertisement, and their values too. Now, the values are stored in a separate M:N table, where every row consists of the applicantID,advertisementID and value. I just wanna append the value to every applicant that I show, so that it would look like a Ranking List.

However, I do not seem to know how to select just the name column from the Applicant table, and just the Value column from the ApplicantValue table.

And there's this Iqueryable interface that further confuses me...

Here's my function to get the Applicants only:

[Code]....

Now, if I try to add to the definition of the type two columns, it says that it only messes with types, i.e. one type should be passed. So I figured I would do a ViewModel and then pass it, like this

[Code]....

and then in the function I have no idea how to pass the values:

LINQ To Entities Pulling Back Entire Table?

Apr 8, 2010

In my application I'm pulling back a user's "feed". This contains all of that user's activities, events, friend requests from other users, etc. When I pull back the feed I'm calling various functions to filter the request along the way.

var userFeed = GetFeed(db); // Query to pull back all data
userFeed = FilterByUser(userFeed, user, db); // Filter for the user
userFeed = SortFeed(userFeed, page, sortBy, typeName); // Sort it

The data that is returned is exactly what I need, however when I look at a SQL Profile Trace I can see that the query that is getting this data does not filter it at the database level and instead is selecting ALL data in the table(s).

This query does not execute until I iterate through the results on my view. All of these functions return an IEnumerable object.

I was under the impression that LINQ would take all of my filters and form one query to pull back the data I want instead of pulling back all the data and then filtering it on the server.

Forms Data Controls :: Finding A SQL Server Table From 3.5 Master Page And LINQ To Entities?

Jan 20, 2010

I have placed a textbox, dropdownlist and command button in a section of my master page. The textbox, named txtsearch, will be used to input a search string. The dropdownlist, named ddlsearch, will be used to specify in which field to search in the table, either part name or NSN.

Questions:

What VB code do I use to save the value entered into txtsearch as a search string? How do I pass that value to my entitydatasource? How do I tell entitydatasource to search in either the part name or NSN field based on the value of ddlsearch?

DataSource Controls :: Accessing Specific Column In Database With Column ID With Table Adaptor

Jan 6, 2010

I'm currectly tryin to access a specific value in my database in a specific column. I'm tryin to use the primary key of the table to access the actual value in the row of that ID.

The current code:

[Code]....

Just iterates through the table and looking for any row with the boolean 'checkin' value is True, then it takes the 'id' value of that row and stores it into an array. Is there a way that I can access a another entry, and only that entry, in the table with the 'id' stored in the array?

Like if my data base contained and int, primarykey, `id` value, a boolean, `checkedin` value, and a `time` value, is there a way to access, lets say, the row with `id` equalling 3 and and the checkIn value from that row?

Forms Data Controls :: Error When Inserting Into Table - Cannot Insert Explicit Value For Identity Column In Table

Aug 11, 2010

I am working on a web app for an online photo album. It is the last project in Scott Mitchell's book: "ASP.Net 2.0 in 24 hours".

I am creating a page where users can enter new photo images. The functionality for uploading an image will come later. I am working on just inserting a new row into the Pictures table with an optional category, a required title and a required description.

I am getting an error when I try to insert a new row.

Here is a screenshot of the page with a shot of the dropdown list.

The Categories are user-specific. I am getting the correct values retrieved.

[URL]

There are two pretty simple database tables involved here.

NOTE: The CategoryID and PIctureID are both autoincrement integer columns.

[URL]

The page uses a DetailsView that uses a SqlDataSource that uses the Pictures table. (The DetailsView's Default Mode property is set to "Insert". The "Enable Inserting" checkbox is also checked.)

The dropdown list uses a dropdown control that uses a SqlDataSource that uses the Categories table.

When the "Insert" button is clicked the CategoryID value associated with selected (Category) Name on the dropdown list will be used along with the Title and Description values to insert a row in to the Pictures table. (If no Category value is selected, then a null value will be used for the CategoryID. This is OK because the CategoryID column in the Pictures table allows nulls.)

My problem is that I am getting this error:

Cannot insert explicit value for identity column in table 'Pictures' when IDENTITY_INSERT is set to OFF.

(FYI: I have the full version of both Visual Studio and SQL Server.)

Here is my source code for the page:

[Code]....

C# - Updating The Quantity Through SQL?

Dec 6, 2010

I posted a question earlier about updating the quantity column in my table, I use the code found below however I think because the Select and Update is inside of a foreach loop it is updating all of the products.

Furthermore, the products are also updated when the page is reloaded and the amount is increased based on how many times the user clicks on the add button. E.g. Click the add button twice the quantity increments by two each time.

I ideally need to be able to use the ItemID outside of the foreach loop, but can't.

Code:

foreach (UserItem ItemID in (List<UserItem>)Session["UserSession"])
{
ConclusionPage.InsertCommand = "IF EXISTS (SELECT ItemID FROM tblUserItems WHERE UserID='@CurrentUser' AND ItemID='@ItemID') UPDATE tblUserItems SET Quantity = Quantity+1 WHERE (UserID = '@CurrentUser') AND (ItemID = '@ItemID')";
ConclusionPage.Insert();
}
