Determine From Where Javascript Is Coming - Awful Scrolling

Jan 25, 2010

So I've been handed an older website, and been asked to make some modifications. It's been made with ASP, and I'm not really familiar with it. [URL] I've been asked to get rid of that awful scrolling. By looking at the page source, I determined that the scrolling is done using some inline Javascript.

<script type="text/javascript">
function getElementPosition(theElement){
var posX = 0;
var posY = 0;
while(theElement != null){
posX += theElement.offsetLeft;
posY += theElement.offsetTop;
theElement = theElement.offsetParent;
}
return {x:posX, y:posY};
}
var offsetY = 0;
window.onload = function(){............................

Javascript - Scrolling In JqPlot?

Sep 22, 2010

I am using jqplot to show candlestick chart and the data is from xml.I retrieve data from xml and put it into array and then jqplot creates a candlestick chart from that.but xml file contains lots of data so in chart values are over lapping (with fixed width). we make graph of lets say 10% of data and place a scrollbar and on every tick of scroll bar we rebuild graph with next data or there already exists any such functionality of scrolling graph/chart in jqplot

Nov 30, 2010

I've got my GridView inside another Panel and I got scrollbars but GridView is to big even with paging. So user needs to scroll down to scroll horizontal (to see horizontal scrollbar). How can I add any horizontal scrolling trick for my GridView in the Panel. Maybe something from javascript ? My js knowledges is still being poor. I really hard thinking on what that could be, maybe floating horizontal scrollbar?

C# - Javascript Window.event Coming Up Null?

Oct 25, 2010

I am using a CustomValidator in ASP.NET as follows:

<asp:CustomValidator ID="cvComment" ControlToValidate="txtComment" Display="None"
EnableClientScript="true" ClientValidationFunction="validateComment"
runat="server" ></asp:CustomValidator>

And this is the function that gets called:

function validateComment(source, args) {
var reComment = new RegExp("^[a-zA-Z0-9',!;?@#%*.s]{1,1000}$");
var validComment = reComment.test(window.event.srcElement.value);
if (!validComment)
alert("The comment has illegal characters");
args.IsValid = validComment;
}

Upon clicking the button that triggers the validator, the application breaks and I can see that the window.event property is null, so obviously there's a null reference trying to match the regEx. My question is why could the window.event be showing up as null? I could've sworn this was working before.

EDIT:

I have modified the function as such:

var check = document.getElementById(source.id);
var checky = check.attributes["controltovalidate"].value;
var checkyo = document.getElementById(checky);
var validHour = reOutHour.test(checkyo.value);
if (!validHour)
alert("The time is incorrectly formatted");
args.IsValid = validHour;

Now this is working on Internet Explorer, but not on Firefox...

Forms Data Controls :: Scrolling Of Div With Javascript?

Mar 30, 2011

I'm trying to control the scrolling of a div containing a gridview using some js code I found at [URL] Intent is to stop the gridview in the div from scrolling to the top after the select in the gridview is operated. Prior to adding the ajax extentions the detail would display when the select image was operated. Now the grid appears ok but when the select is operated nothing happens - perhaps the nSelectedIndexChanging="DetailsView1_Show" code behind is no longer firing? Perhaps I am missusing the ajax extentions? Using VS 2010. My code is as below,

<asp:ScriptManager ID="ScriptManager1" runat="server"/>
<script type="text/javascript">
var xPos, yPos;
var prm = Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManager.getInstance();
prm.add_beginRequest(BeginRequestHandler);
prm.add_endRequest(EndRequestHandler);
function BeginRequestHandler(sender, args) {
xPos = $get('serviceorders').scrollLeft;
yPos = $get('serviceorders').scrollTop;
}
function EndRequestHandler(sender, args) {
$get('serviceorders').scrollLeft = xPos;
$get('serviceorders').scrollTop = yPos;
}
</script>
<asp:UpdatePanel ID="UpdatePanel1" runat="server" UpdateMode="Conditional">
<ContentTemplate>
<input type="hidden" id="hdnScrollTop" runat="server" value="0" />
<div id="serviceorders" style="position: absolute; left:300px; top:180px; height:100px; width:700px;

GridLines="None" OnSelectedIndexChanged="DetailsView1_Show"
OnSelectedIndexChanging="DetailsView1_Show">

JavaScript Parameters Coming From View's Model Data?

Jul 29, 2010

I've seen/read plenty advocating "unobtrusive" JavaScript contained in separate files. I'm preparing to combine all my JavaScript from three partial views into a single file that I will then reference somewhere in my master.

My question is: is there any type of JavaScript that should remain behind in the html? One example that seems to me may present a problem would be something like:

<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function () {
$('#newQuoteLink').click(function () {[code]...

Am I correct in assuming this script would not work if loaded from a separate file?I mostly wanted to check if there were any caveats or other considerations prior to combining everything into this lone, separate file.

Javascript - Window Scrolling Button Control - Rendering To Normal Position

Nov 9, 2010

In web application, i tried scrolling the window vertically by increasing a y axis height to 500 with a javascript that is attached to OnClientClick event of a asp.net button control with id Button1. The script i have used is

<script language="JavaScript">
function scrollToWindow()
{
window.scrollTo(0,500);
}
</script>

and the button code is as follows

<asp:Button ID="Button1" runat="server"
Text="Scroll to bottom" OnClientClick="scrollToWindow()" />

If i run this page and click that button, the page scroll is not working properly. when i put alert inside that script and debug, i found that the page is actually scrolling to 0,500 but again its rendering to its normal position because of some reasons. Overcome this issue and let me know the reason behind that?

Javascript - Determine Generated ID's From Codebehind?

Mar 14, 2010

In ASP.NET, when you give a tag an ID it generates a unique HTML id for the element based on the control hierachy, ie.

<asp:Panel ID="test" runat="server">
...
</asp:Panel>
<!-- Becomes... -->
<div id="plc_lt_zoneContent_PagePlaceholder_PagePlaceholder_lt_test_test">
...
</div>

Is there some way of determining the generated id in the codebehind file? I need to generate some Javascript that uses the id.

C# - Determine If A JavaScript File Is Already Included Via User Control?

Jan 20, 2010

I'm building several user controls (ASCX) for my website and several of them are very similar in what they do. (As a side note, I must create unique UC's even if they're similar because I'm creating widgets for the new Telligent Community themeing system). For example, two of them are different but use the same front-end code to create a 2 or 3 tab panel where you can click a tab and it changes the data below. I have a single JS file to handle these tabs and the animations. I'm currently dynamically adding my JS file reference to the <head> from the user controls' code via:

Literal jsFile = new Literal();
jsFile.Text = string.Format("<script src="{0}"></script>", "/community/themes/test/js/tabbedCallout.js");
Page.Header.Controls.Add(jsFile);

If I have both of these controls on a page though, both will add this JS file reference. How can I do a check to see if it is already added from another control?

Determine Which Control In Window.onbeforeunload In Javascript Caused Event

Mar 7, 2011

I have set up in javascript:

var onBeforeUnloadFired = false;
window.onbeforeunload = function (sender, args)
{
if(window.event){
if(!onBeforeUnloadFired) {
onBeforeUnloadFired = true;
window.event.returnValue = 'You will lose any unsaved changes!'; //IE
}
}
else {
return 'You will lose any unsaved changes!'; //FX
}
windows.setTimeout("ResetOnBeforeUnloadFired()", 1000);
}
function ResetOnBeforeUnloadFired() {
//Need this variable to prevent IE firing twice.
onBeforeUnloadFired = false;
}

I'm trying to achieve an edit screen where the user is warned before navigating away. It works fine except I get the pop up for normal post backs of button clicks. I'm hoping to avoid this so I'm figuring if I could determine which button was pressed it would work. Does anybody know how to determine which button was pressed in the indows.onbeforeunload? Alternatively anyone know a better approach to what I'm trying to achieve?

Jun 1, 2010

I am trying to display a PDF from database (byte[]) to user.

I am using code below to render PDF. It is giving me PDF as binary text as shown below. Instead of open in PDF application it is rendering PDF as text.

Response.Buffer = true;
Response.Charset = "";
Response.Cache.SetCacheability(HttpCacheability.NoCache);
//Response.AddHeader("Content-Length", fileToDownload.Length.ToString());
//Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "inline; name=RemoteUserGuide.pdf");
Response.AppendHeader("content-length", fileToDownload.Length.ToString());
Response.ContentType = "application/pdf";
Response.BinaryWrite(fileToDownload);
Response.Flush();
////Response.Close();
Response.End();

UPDATE: Just noticed, this application page is rendering PDF correctly in CHROME, but still displaying text in IE. (don't have FF3 on server to test). Probably its some browser issue?
