View 2 RepliesI have been given a requirement to take an existing stand-alone web-form (i.e. uses postbacks) and throw it into a lightbox. The standalone web-form already has save and cancel buttons that have predefined behaviors. For example, the Save button attempts to save the form, and either displays validation errors, or if the operation was successful, redirects to some other page in the app. However, in the context of this new "lightbox mode", the Save button should additionally close the lightbox if the operation was successful. I see two options:
Option 1-->UpdatePanel + ModalDialogExtender:a. Extract a UserControl out of the standalone web-form that includes everything but save/cancel buttonsb. Introduce Save and Cancel EventHandlers on said UserControl
c. Use this UserControl on both the standalone and lightbox versions of the page, and wire up the events appropriatelyOption 2-->Client side lightbox (i.e. jQuery)I'm a big fan of jQuery and tend to favor its use for Ajax functionality b/c of the level of control it gives me. My webform has a 400k image that it needs to load (a table background), plus a Bewise Flash control. The problem is that the Flash animation loads before everything else, so I end up viewing the Flash but the page hasn't even started to load that big image.
Is there any way that I can load the Flash animation once the whole page has finished loading? The image is actually a table background.
I am trying to find an efficient way of displaying images (about 140x140px) in a webform. We cannot use paging, so we need to display all these images in the same webform.I noticed that facebook (and other sites) lets you display all your images in one page. For a profile qith about 1000 photos, facebook somehow downloads only enough so that the visitor can see images on the screen. Once you scroll, it seems to only download enough so that the visitor can again see something on screen. It works like a good text editor.... instead of displaying a huge file onscreen (like notepad does) and freezing, it only displays enough for the reader to see.

That displays a crystal report in .pdf format. I works great except for follwing:
If I run the application from the web server I see an "envelope" icon on my .pdf screen which allows me to email the report. Another user, running the same application, does not see the "envelope" icon and there are no options to email.
well the question is simple but i searched all over, found crystal reports found many tools
but the problem is
i cannot use an other tools, or libraries other then the default with vs08 sp1
i cannot use crystal reports, as its datasource is dataset or xml none of which is there
my page on users click of button generates a html table and info within using c# code behind (i.e. at runtime) so how to write this stream to browser such that it becomes a valid pdf file?

I have a web application that browses the local system, selects a file and uploads it onto the webpage. The entire contents of the selected document is displayed in the textarea on the webpage itself. The uploaded file is of .docx type. The selected word file has many paragraphs with different headings. I want my program to select a particular section in the word document by specifying the heading and display only that section in the text area.

I am using a server control on a single web.forms page. I have to use this control on a web.forms page since its a server control, although this is actually a MVC project. So I created a web.forms folder and put my new page in it. I then copy the example code from the signature control. I get the following error:
The base class includes the field 'ctrlSign', but its type (WebSignatureCapture.SignatureControl) is not compatible with the type of control (ASP.signaturecapture_signaturecontrol_ctlsignature_ascx).
I know the code works because if I removed the ID attribute from the server control, it no longer gives me this error and my control renders. But I need the attribute for the ID so I can perform is post event

I want when i click the link in gridview in webform 2 then it close webform 2 and change the datasource parameter in webform 1 without open the new window (still same window)

But when we inspect element it is showing url of file which we dont't want.
it is possible to hide this url or any other alternate to show our document to user without exposing our physical file path.
I have xml document and wanting to pass it through wcf restfull service, i am able to do that by using string format i mean i can pass the xml as string param in the restful service and it worked but now my xml document becomes huge so if i pass it as string then it gives URI long error. any way i can pass the huge xml document through the WCF RESTFul service.

Both methods successfuly launch the PDF document displaying the document path and title in the title bar. For security reasons I'd like to HIDE the document title. Can someone advice how this can be done? (How can a PDF document be launched without showing the actual document's name)

View 7 RepliesI have issues when developing under Visual Studio 2010 and getting the favicon.ico to display. I have used favicons in production sites (sites running on Windows Server 2008, for example) and have no issues. But when I try to get it to display when testing new code under Visual Studio 2010, then I have difficulties getting it to display. Then sometimes it will display just fine with no assistance (see next paragraph). Before anyone says it...Yes, I have a file in the root directory called "favicon.ico". No, it will not display (in certain projects) when the site is run under VS2010...UNLESS I TREAT THE URL IN THE BROWSER THE SAME AS WHEN RUNNING UNDER FIDDLER2. That is to say, it will only work if I add a period character (.) in the url after the "localhost" entry [URL]. This url will cause the favicon to display every time. If I leave out the period (.), then the favion will not display -- and Fiddler2 will also not display the activity when the page is displayed/refreshed. As I said, this is a sporadic issue. I have some projects where the favicon displays fine. Then I have others where it does not...unless I put the period in the url after the locahost word. Can someone explain to me why:
(a) The period is required in the url to get Fiddler2 to "catch" the activity;
(b) Why does this same phenomenon affect the favicon as well; and,
(C) Why do some projects display the favicon fine when run under VS2010 WITHOUT the period being added?
I just do not understand what the period character in the url string is actually causing to happen and why it doesn't happen when it's missing.

View 4 RepliesI have an ASP.NET MVC app and I have a WebForm page I built in the MVC due to a tutorial on how to do something I needed to do, but it was all in WebForm style. Ive tried to figure out how to do the same thing in MVC format but cant figure it out. So I was needing to figure out how to use this page in my MVC app. But when I try to go to the page, it gives me the error "Page cannot be derived from ViewMasterPage unless Page derives from ViewPage." So I had to make a new standard MasterPage also.
The situation is this. I have a search bar located in the MVC ViewMasterPage thats on every page that is derived from it. Once a user submits info in the search bar, it calls the WebForm Search.aspx page and displays the results on the Search.aspx page. I want the URL to be like "http:///search//. The Search.aspx page is located in the root of the project. How would I get the results Im looking for?

And in my shield page i just add for example one textbox with a button and when I want to get value with request.form("idofcontrol") I get nothing.and when i do that in a simple webform page that not have any page master I get the value.
