Sep 17, 2010I have been playing a bit with ASP.NET MVC 2 using VWD 2010.After a bit of struggling with profiles(thank you MS for putting 2 web.config files in the solution...) I decided that after all I like this technology. I always thought that dotNET would be great for server side stuff and I've been proven right.Anyhow, I'm gonna start a real project now and I want to do something weird(yes, I know, I shouldn't be wanting to do weird things, but it's just beyond me :-) ): say I have a company website with roles and a forum.When I click on the nickname of a user, I want to bring his/her profile up - just like you would be doing with any decent forum out there. Well, my final idea is a tad more interesting in this regard, but let's stick it at that: click and see profile page.Problem is, I want this profile to be different for company employees and users.
I want some general informations such as first and last name, date of birth, photo, etc and then for instance I do not want to show the address property for company users. Yes I know I might want to put the company address there or leave it at all blank and I would rather not display it at all.From what I gather about profiles, this is possible only using views and checking for the roles, doing something like:

Jun 17, 2010I need to get the MAC address of the machine which will be hosting web application. Web Application will be hosted locally (just for LAN in small environment). We will provide server which will host the application and the other machines will access the application through the system which we will provide.
We want to hard code the MAC address in ASP.NET application and check it if the application is still being hosted by the same server.
We don't want the client to clone the Hard Drive and use the application somewhere else.
We don't want any information about client machine which will request the web application.
X = SERVER (will host application )
X1,X2,X3......XN = machine on local LAN
We are interested only in X's MAC Address.

Dec 15, 2010i am using windows server 2003 and 2008 am about to install a web application on a server that is connected to other computers using simple wired network i.e. no active directory, no domain controller etc..
my question is:
is there a way to prevent mac addresses outside my specified list from accessing my application ? should it be through IIS or Web.config or should i put certain code in the page load events.another concern: if i use an SSL to secure my application, is it enough along with a reputable anti virus to prevent a virus to access my server through any network computer using my web application

Aug 26, 2010I have an application that's locked down using forms authentication. There are few nightly tasks I want to script that make get requests to, say, http://myapp.domain.com/NightlyTask ... I don't need any response, I just need it to accept a get request from a certain IP address. I realize you could spoof an IP address, etc. but I'm trying to make this dead simple.Is there anyway I can setup the Web.config to unconditionally give access to a certain IP? Any other idea to approach this?Again, long-term solution would be a service running Quartz or some other cron-like job handler. I'm not quite there yet, hoping for an interim solution

Apr 15, 2010I have managed to expose the MEX endpoint of my WCF service and I can access it with the address like [URL] (example) and get the WDSL. So no problem there.
However, my WCF test page shows the address wrongly by using the server's name instead of the DNS name. And if I click on the link on the test page it won't work (can't get WSDL).
The WCF test page looks like this:

To test this service, you will need to create a client and use it to call the service.

The WCF service is hosted in IIS6. I would like to have a test page with the correct WSDL address so users can see the WSDL quickly in the browser just by clicking on the WSDL address.
In short: How can I change the MyServerName to inter.mycompany.com on the WCF test page? Can this be specified somewhere in the Web.config?

Sep 17, 2010I have uploaded the nerddinner sample to "www.aaa.com/test/nerd". When a mouse is on menu tab such as "Find a host" then the link is shown at the bottom of Internet explorer as "www.aaa.com/test/nerd/Dinner" with the contoller name "Dinner". When the mouse is on the main logo which is on top and left, the link shown as "www.aaa.com". So it direct me to "www.aaa.com" instead of "www.aaa.com/test/nerd"
When can I change it? I have tried change the "start url" from the application property, but it did not work.
