I have Firefox set as my default browser, but I want to debug the ASP.NET Web Application with IE. Searching SO only shows replies to "Browse with ..." However, this doesn't start the debugger. How would I do this? I remember in an old Visual Studio setting the browser to start with the debugger, but I don't remember how - and where it is in VS 2008.

I want to trigger a client application when a button in the browser is pressed. I want o have a button in the browser that says "Record sound". When its clicked a client app starts recording the sound (in this case a call via Skype). How can I do this? Or perhaps there already is a browser based application/plugin that does this?

I have come across some ASP.NET sites that rather than displaying a page, it launches a console-based application similar to how LiveMeeting kicks-off. I am interested in building an app that uses that feature so that I could take advantage of richer features of a console-based app, but for the life of me, I can't seem to find any info on the internet as to what type of project this would be in VS. I have tried WPF Browse Application, but thats not what I am looking for since the app type I am talking about does not run in the browser at all. The image below shows what happens when reaching the web site, which would therefore then launch the console-application (which is not even installed on the client's machine)

I have an ASP.NET/C# application that exports some data into an Excel spreadsheet using COM interop at the click of a Button control. When I click the button, Excel is opened with the generated spreadsheet. For what it's worth, here is the button code:
<asp:Button ID="export" Text="Export to spreadsheet" runat="server" OnClick="Export_Workbook" />
This works fine, except when I click the button, close the subsequent spreadsheet, and refresh the page. When the page is refreshed after clicking the button, the call to Export_Workbook() is made again and so the spreadsheet opens again. Firefox, for example, says this when you refresh: "To display this page, Firefox must send information that will repeat any action (such as a search or order confirmation) that was performed earlier." This is something I want to avoid.
I'm sure there's a better way to accomplish what I'm trying to do, I'm just not sure what the best approach is.
Edit
I've accomplished this by doing the following:
protected void Export_Workbook(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Response.Redirect(Request.Url.AbsolutePath, false);
ItemList.Prepare_Workbook();
}

I'm writing a web-based application for internal use within the business where I work. It's a fairly complex application, with a lot of forms that will allow the user to view and enter data, which once saved will be stored in a database.
One thing I'm anxious to avoid is allowing a situation to exist where a user might enter large amounts of data in the browser, and then (either deliberately or inadvertently) navigate off the page without saving the changes. To this end, I have already implemented an entry page which opens up a new browser window in which there are no navigation controls at all; only what is provided on the web pages themselves.
However, there are two potential ways in which a user could still lose data:
The browser Close button is still enabled, and a user could potentially lose work by clicking it inadvertently. I can probably live with this, as it falls at the extreme end of helping the user not to shoot himself in the foot. In Internet Explorer (and, apparently, in Firefox) the Backspace button works like a Back button. I only discovered this accidentally, and have as yet been unable to find a simple way of stopping this behaviour. This is potentially a problem, as an inadvertent use of the Delete key (e.g. having positioned the cursor in a read-only textbox, or when the cursor isn't on any particular field in the page) will navigate off the page.
What I would like to do, as a minimum, is prevent Backspace from navigating off a page if that page has any user-writable fields on it and any of those fields have been changed by the user since the form was loaded. Ideally, I would like to disable this particular use of the Backspace key completely, while the user is logged into this web application. The two possible ways that I can think of, for achieving this, are: (1) clear the browser's history as each page is loaded, or (2) trap the Backspace key and only allow it to work if the cursor is positioned within a field whose text can be changed (e.g. a textbox).
how I could achieve either of these things? The solution needs to be programmatic, rather than something that has to be manually configured on every browser in the company.

When ever user tries to open an application other than mozilla(fire fox) or IE browser , we need to alert the user telling him please open the application in IE or Firebox browser. And the browser which he has opened the application should stop and we should not close the browser in which he has opened
Ex : like other browser ( google crome, opera )
So first I need to check which browser are they running the application based on that I need to send an alert message.

I can't use RegisterStartupScript('window.open...), because Chrome blocks the popup without even informing the userI can't use "onclientclick=window.open(..." in the markup, because I have to invoke code in the button click event handler before opening the popup window.I can't expect every user of the website to add the site as an exception in Google Chrome's popup blocker, since they'll assume it's an error on the website and not with the popup blocker

I am using VSTS 2008 + C# + .Net 3.5 + Silverlight 3.0 + ASP.Net to develop a Silverlight application (a video media player) in browser and the function is simple, just use MediaElement to play a remote video file.The remote server is Windows Server 2008 + IIS 7.0 + IIS Media Bit Rate Throttling Control.Since the request media URL can be discovered (e.g. from traffic sniffer), and I want to know how to prevent from download directly from the Url? i.e. I want end user to use my Silverlight media player application in browser to play the file, prevent them from download to local directly. Any easy and quick solution or reference code/documents?

I am very new to asp.net. I developed one application. In that I have two pages. First page contains Application.Get() in page load event, here I read this Application variable, initially it returns NULL. If it is NULL, I make some buttons invisible. Then I jump to second page, in that page contains Application.Set(). Again I jump from second page to first page, this time Application.Get() is not NULL, I make some buttons visible.This is ok, if I execute the program in .net software.
But, when I publish this same program to web server like IIS, it is not working properly. After publishing very first time the first page returns NULL after that it doesnt return NULL even I closed the browser. I dont know why. In program, I used 2.0 framework. IIS also has 2.0 framework. Please clear this issue.
