Is it possible to use dynamic query filters with a gridview using a stored procedure as a data source? What I'm thinking of is a search page where there are multiple controls to enter in a search string and a radio button for the AND/OR query filters between the various controls. If not, what would be the best way to allow a user to select an AND / OR with a group of different query controls?
Here is the page I have created thus far using a view and no AND/OR option. I but I can't get it to work with my SP, also listed below:

I have LinqDataSource ID="LinqDataSource1" with values - EnableDelete="True", EnableInsert="True" EnableUpdate="True" on my ascx page, furthermore GridView, button a few textboxes, where a fill new values, which I would like save in my database. After click on button I insert new value to the table throught in function stored in ascx.vb page. It is works, but I don't know, how I refresh GridView on ascx page. I tried
LinqDataSource1.DataBind()
GridView1.DataBind()
without any good result, I must refresh page manualy (F5).

Im using LinqDataSource like that:
<asp:LinqDataSource ID="LinqDataSource3" runat="server" OnSelecting="LinqDataSource3_OnSelecting">
</asp:LinqDataSource>
And I have ASPxGridView
<dxwgv:ASPxGridView ID="ASPxGridView2" ClientInstanceName="ASPxGridView2Client"
runat="server" AutoGenerateColumns="False"
DataSourceID="LinqDataSource3">
</dxwgv:ASPxGridView>
In this way Im able to add columns dynamically while handling onSelecting event:
protected void LinqDataSource3_OnSelecting(object sender, LinqDataSourceSelectEventArgs e)
{
MyModelDataContext context = new MyModelDataContext();
ASPxGridView grid = ASPxPageControl1.TabPages[3].FindControl("ASPxGridView2") as ASPxGridView;
if(grid.Columns.Count == 0){
GridViewDataTextColumn txtColumn1 = new GridViewDataTextColumn();
GridViewDataTextColumn txtColumn2 = new GridViewDataTextColumn();
txtColumn1.FieldName = "UserId";
txtColumn2.FieldName = "FirstName";
grid.Columns.Add(txtColumn1);
grid.Columns.Add(txtColumn2);
}
e.Result = from u in context.Users select new { UserId = u.UserId, FirstName = u.FirstName };
}
It is all made simply to test cause my idea is to have solution that makes it possible to use inqDataSource as a datasource for de ASPxGridView but join 2 or 3 tables and show results in this grid.
What I want to ask is if its good solution or is there any other better way to present some views made from couple of tables by join?
Second question is that I have Users and Group and I would like to have one table in which I would have two columns Name and Type For groups type would by group and for users type would be user. I dont have such a table in my database Is it possible to create specific class. Create List of objects of that class and fill it using linq query and the use it as linq data source for that grid ?
clas would be:
pseudocode:
Class MyClass {
string Type;
string Name;
}
or is there any other way to create such a table ?

In my "selecting" statement I need to add two dynamic parameters when using the LinqDataSource's WhereParameters collection:
e.WhereParameters.Add(param, True)
However, the system adds these parameters as AND, but I want to perform an OR where either parameter 1 OR parameter 2 is true.

I'm currently working on a highly configurable Database Viewer webpart for WSS 3.0 which we are going to need for several customized sharepoint sites. but i fear it's necessary to recap the whole issue. As background information and to describe my problem as good as possible, I'll start by telling you what the webpart shall do:
Basically the webpart contains an UpdatePanel, which contains a GridView and an SqlDataSource. The select-query the Datasource uses can be set via webbrowseable properties or received from a consumer method from another webpart. Now i wanted to add a filtering feature to the webpart, so i want a dropdownlist in the headerrow for each column that should be filterable. As the select-query is completely dynamic and i don't know at design time which columns shall be filterable, i decided to add a webbrowseable property to contain an xml-formed string with filter information.
So i added the following into OnRowCreated of the gridview:
void gridView_RowCreated(object sender, GridViewRowEventArgs e)
{
if (e.Row.RowType == DataControlRowType.Header)
{
for (int i = 0; i < e.Row.Cells.Count; i++)
{
if (e.Row.Cells[i].GetType() == typeof(DataControlFieldHeaderCell))
{
string headerText = ((DataControlFieldHeaderCell)e.Row.Cells[i]).ContainingField.HeaderText;
// add sorting functionality
if (_allowSorting && !String.IsNullOrEmpty(headerText))
{
Label l = new Label();
l.Text = headerText;
l.ForeColor = Color.Blue;
l.Font.Bold = true;
l.ID = "Header" + i;
l.Attributes["title"] = "Sort by " + headerText;
l.Attributes["onmouseover"] = "this.style.cursor = 'pointer'; this.style.color = 'red'";
l.Attributes["onmouseout"] = "this.style.color = 'blue'";
l.Attributes["onclick"] = "__doPostBack('" + panel.UniqueID + "','SortBy$" + headerText + "');";
e.Row.Cells[i].Controls.Add(l);
}
// check if this column shall be filterable
if (!String.IsNullOrEmpty(filterXmlData))
{
XmlNode columnNode = GetColumnNode(headerText);
if (columnNode != null)
{
string dataValueField = columnNode.Attributes["DataValueField"] == null ? "" : columnNode.Attributes["DataValueField"].Value;
string filterQuery = columnNode.Attributes["FilterQuery"] == null ? "" : columnNode.Attributes["FilterQuery"].Value;
if (!String.IsNullOrEmpty(dataValueField) && !String.IsNullOrEmpty(filterQuery))
{
SqlDataSource ds = new SqlDataSource(_conStr, filterQuery);
DropDownList cbx = new DropDownList();
cbx.ID = "FilterCbx" + i;
cbx.Attributes["onchange"] = "__doPostBack('" + panel.UniqueID + "','SelectionChange$" + headerText + "$' + this.options[this.selectedIndex].value);";
cbx.Width = 150;
cbx.DataValueField = dataValueField;
cbx.DataSource = ds;
cbx.DataBound += new EventHandler(cbx_DataBound);
cbx.PreRender += new EventHandler(cbx_PreRender);
cbx.DataBind();
e.Row.Cells[i].Controls.Add(cbx);
}
}
}
}
}
}
}
GetColumnNode() checks in the filter property, if there is a node for the current column, which contains information about the Field the DropDownList should bind to, and the query for filling in the items.
In cbx_PreRender() i check ViewState and select an item in case of a postback. In cbx_DataBound() i just add tooltips to the list items as the dropdownlist has a fixed width.
Previously, I used AutoPostback and SelectedIndexChanged of the DDL to filter the grid, but to my disappointment it was not always fired. Now i check __EVENTTARGET and __EVENTARGUMENT in OnLoad and call a function when the postback event was due to a selection change in a DDL:
[Code]....
When i have two or more filters set which return zero rows, and i change back one filter to something that should return rows, the gridview remains empty (although the pager is rendered). I have to completly refresh the page to reset the filters. When debugging, i can see in the overridden CreateChildControls of the grid, that the base method indeed returns > 0, but anyway.the gridView.RowCount remains 0 after databinding. Anyone have an idea what's going wrong here?

I have a LinqDataSource and a GridView displaying a table. Columns of type xml don't show up. I'd like them to show up something like they do in Sql Server query outputs, with a link to display the clickable xml, though there may be another approach i'm not considering (maybe a styled display of the xml data, etc.). Two things i'd like to know how to do
First, get the xml converted to a string, and display it in the table. Maybe the first 30 chars.
Finally, style the xml into something useful, like a clickable link to display the full xml, or a sub-table, or a styled string.
So the following works, and displays a nice table, with edit and delete links. But Xml fields are missing. How would you go about adding support for the Xml fields?

I've a gridview bound to linqdatasource1 and a details bound to linqdatasource2 (for searching).
When I update the data on detailsview, my gridview is not updating. I've tried handling various gridview events and databinding the gridview in code but it doesn't seem to work.

i have a grdidview control on the .aspx page and i am trying to connect dynamically from code behind and bind the gridview but somehow it throwing me an error... what is wrong with this code?
LinqDataSource LDS_POReport = new LinqDataSource();
LDS_POReport.ContextTypeName = "DataContextDataContext";
LDS_POReport.Selecting += new EventHandler<LinqDataSourceSelectEventArgs>(LinqDataSourcePO_Selecting);
this.gvReport.DataSource = "LDS_POReport";
//this.gvReport.DataBind();
Update:
after i update the code to this.gvReport.DataSource = LDS_POReport;
it works fine but when i try to sort i get this error:
The GridView 'gvReport' fired event Sorting which wasn't handled.
i added this but no effect.
LDS_POReport.AutoPage = true;
LDS_POReport.AutoSort = true;

I have two tables:
Orders
OrderProducts - An order can have 1 to many orderProducts records associated with it.
What I am trying to do (unsuccessfully) is to implement a GridView search using a LinqDataSource wherein the search returns Order results where any of the OrderProduct.Manufacturer columns contain a search query. I was hoping the following would work, however it seems lambda expressions do not work within a Where clause of a LinqDataSource (in VB):
<asp:LinqDataSource ID="dsOrders" runat="server" ContextTypeName="myDataContext" TableName="orders"
Where="orderProducts.Any(Function(op) op.Manufacturer.Contains(@searchTerm))">
<WhereParameters>
<asp:ControlParameter Name="searchTerm" ControlID="txtSearchTerm" DefaultValue="" />
</WhereParameters>
</asp:LinqDataSource>
In C# it would look like:
<asp:LinqDataSource ID="dsOrders" runat="server" ContextTypeName="myDataContext" TableName="orders"
Where="orderProducts.Any(op => op.Manufacturer.Contains(@searchTerm))">
<WhereParameters>
<asp:ControlParameter Name="searchTerm" ControlID="txtSearchTerm" DefaultValue="" />
</WhereParameters>
</asp:LinqDataSource>
The error I am getting is:
No property or field 'op' exists in type 'orderProduct' Any clues as to how to get this working within the LinqDataSource definition, or will I have to handle and set up a custom OnSelecting event?

Im using a LINQDataSource to populate a GridView of Universities.
Each University has an associated State, which is in another table and associated by a foreign key (StateID).
I have a TemplateField in the GridView so that when you view it normally it displays the StateName which comes from the State table and when you edit it shows a DDL populated with everything from the State table.
[Code]....
If I debug, inside of RowUpdating, GridViewUpdateEventArgs.NewValues doesnt even have a key for State.
Question: How do I let my gridview know I want it to update this column? All the BoundFields just seem to work...

I have three tables in database:
ARTICLE with fields like ID_Article, Title, etc. and also a FK ID_Author
CATEGORY with fields ID_Category, Name
CATEGORYTOARTICLE with fields ID_Article, ID_Category
Now I have a page that shows all Articles of a given Category. Inside there is a GridView.
[Code]....
The ID of the viewed Category is passed via QueryString.
How to access the fields of Article table so that I can create columns for them in GridView? I tried using Eval("Article.Title") but it keeps saying that "DataBinding: 'konserwatyzm.db.CategoryToArticle' does not contain a property with the name 'Article'."

I am facing a strange issue while adding some dynamic data in my two divs. First div only contains single grid, while other has grouping grid with collapsible panel. When i add dynamic data in my first div, then after adding data, my div and its scroll automatically refresh, but when i add some data dynamically in my group grids then div content refresh, but its scroll do not refresh. This behavior is producing in Firefox and chrome. It is perfectly working fine in IE. One thing that can help you to solve my issue is that i am implementing continuous scrolling on my grids and adding data dynamically using jquery. Interesting point is that when i click some item and then scroll down, then both div content and scroll refreshes, but when i do not click on any item and simple scroll down to load dynamic data then div content refreshes but not its scroll. Link that i use to implement continuous scrolling is

I used customized sitemap providers to add dynamic nodes in the master page. ( by Override the " BuildSiteMap() " method, add dynamic node into the existing sitemap based on the user's roll. For example, when admin user login , I will add a dynamic node into the map as "Admin link", when general user login, I will add a dynamic node into the sitemap as "general", when default( not log in mood), I will add a dynamice node as "not log in " . menu works when the user first load the page, but menu never change again if I switch the user's log. Does anybody has a good idea how to either make the sitemap refresh when I switch the user's login ? Or any other good idear on how to make my goal accomplished?

The datasource of the datagrid is a LINQDataSource which relies on the value of a dropdownlist. In addition, I want to use the footer to insert new records - so I'd prefer not to use the empty dataset template. I am trying to find a way to always display the footer regardless if the datasource is empty or not.
EDIT:
Is there a way to create an empty/invisible object of the type in the LinqDataSource?

If there's a better way to accomplish what I'm attempting I haven't found it yet. That being said, I have create a gridview like the one here,[URL]And with some minor tweaking it working great for all my fields, checkboxes, etc. The issue is my last column is another gridview, and I'd like it to function the same. that is, a dynamic gridview inside of a dynamic gridview. I get that I have to create it initially with null values or it won't show up. I guess what I'm having trouble figuring out is instead of go will null data in the parent gridviews column, do I place my blank child gridview. Do I create and bind the child gridview first, or second. Generally just not sure. Also, as far as storing the data from the child gridview goes, will each one need it's own datatable?
