Is It Possible To Turn Off App_Code Auto-compile
Oct 7, 2010
Working with Visual Studio (I'm using 2008) I have started to notice that when you save a file in the /App_Code folder, the program will hang for a bit before returning control. After a bit of research, I have learned that there's an auto-compile feature at work, which I assume is what is slowing down my system.
So the question is this: Is it possible to turn off the automatic compiling of files in the /App_Code folder? Or, even better, is there a way to reduce the time that it takes, or make it work a little more smoothly in the background?

I've been scratching my head for what seems like ages. I'm sure its really simple to fix but I can't see it.
I have a class in App_Code that uses a bit of Linq.
var siteMap = SiteMapWrapper.BuildSiteMap(true);
var currentTopLevelParent = siteMap.Single(s => s.IsActive);
if (currentTopLevelParent != null)
I've developed this locally and all works fine. When I transfer to IIS hosting the same class fails to compile. I receive:
does not contain a definition for 'Single' and no extension method 'Single' accepting a first argument of type 'SiteMapWrapper' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)
I confirmed that the virtual dir is running .NET 2.0 as it should. I also confirmed that the correct assemblies are being loaded in the web.config.
<compilation debug="true">
<assemblies>
<add assembly="System.Core, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=B77A5C561934E089"/>
<add assembly="System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35"/>
<add assembly="System.Xml.Linq, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=B77A5C561934E089"/>
<add assembly="System.Data.DataSetExtensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=B77A5C561934E089"/>
</assemblies>

I have several class files in App_Code in an ASP.net website running in Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Professional.In liu of using a full unit test suite I just want to somehow compile those project-wide classses into an .EXE so that I can nightly run unit tests on them.I do know how to create a separate C# library project consisting of those files and how to include them into my website--but that is not desirable--I don't want to give up the ability to make on-the-fly code changes of those library classes when running the website in the debugger. As far as I know .Net debugger isn't powerful enough to modify code in included libraries with instant auto re-compilation on page re-load.So, I want my cake and eat it, too:
Command-line unit testing of website class files in App_Code directoryBeing able to modify those class files w/o stopping/re-starting the web debugger.

Is to possible to make a configuration entry (web.config). That automatically compiles a referenced project(for example a class library) when the site runs? This would be easier for me to maintain on my hosting server. Otherwise i have to always recompile the files and upload them again for every small change.

I have a "database explorer" page that is desgined to be pointed to an unknown database and allow users to browse the data, so it basically uses the SQL system tables to develop its queries and pull in data to tables using auto-generate columns.The problem that I have is that I would like certain types of columns to have certain formats and I'm wondering the best way to go about it. I could format the column in code in the RowDataBound event I assume, but I'm wondering if there some better standard way to do this? Is there a setting of any kind that I can use? For example I want all of the datetime fields to be formated for short date, like {0:d}, I want decimal fields to have 4 decimal places, etc.

I have a simple online web system where it possible for the visitors to "play around" with the system. They can like create categories and products and so forth. Everything they create are stored into a database.
What I want is to be able to reset this database with my default values (table data) every n hours.
So for example if we have a bunch of users that have played with the system and created new things. Then I want to be able to make some kode that deletes all data in the tables in this database and fill it with default data. The default data can come from a backup file, or another database with same tables structure or whatever.
I want this task to be done every day at 12 pm or every n hour.
Is this possible (by forexample scheduled webservice tasks or just something as long as it is simple).

We developed an application in ASP.NET 3.5 on Windows Server 2003. (IIS 6.0)They are trying to deploy it on Windows Server 2008 IIS 7.5.But we are getting the old yellow screen message: Runtime ErrorDescription:
[Code]....
Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.
[Code]....
An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed.Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on the local server machine, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "RemoteOnly". To enable the details to be viewable on remote machines, please set "mode" to "Off".We have turned off custom errors everywhere we can find in ASP.Net Error Pages and set it to Detailed Errors at all folder levels for IIS Error Pages.Still the yellow screen with custom errors and no detailed errors.If we switch the application pool to run in 32 bit = true, we get a detailed error. But we don't get very far with that because of Oracle issues and wouldn't really want to force it to run in 32 bit when it should really run in 64 bit anyway.So how do we get detailed messages from IIS while running in 64 bit?

need to turn off the cookies in my ASP.net site completely
I'm doing some funky stuff serving images and scripts from a .aspx file, which causes the request to have cookies tagged to it.
So, how do I get rid of these?
I've tried setting the SessionState mode="Off" in the web.config, but that didn't seem to work.

I am parsing a tweet and need to search for any words that begin with '@'. I want to turn the rest of the word after the '@' into a hyperlink. I have a partial solution, but my problem is that the link which gets generated includes the '@' in the link text and the hyperlink, but I only want the text after the '@'.
Example:
"Username @SomeName blah blah blah blah"
I want to create the hyperlink text: http://twitter/SomeName
I have the following partial solution:
ASP Code:
body = Regex.Replace(body, "(@[^ ]*[a-zA-Z0-9])", "<a href="http://www.twitter.com/$1" target="_blank">$1</a>");

I'm currently using ASP.net. I wonder what would I need to do to let the browser wait for 3 seconds so my users can read the text "Customer Successfully Added" before turning to another page? I have attached my code as follows.
Protected Sub btnAdd_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnAdd.Click
Dim db As New DatabaseClass
db.addProfile(txtLN.Text, txtFN.Text, txtUsername.Text, txtPassword.Text, txtAddress.Text, txtZip.Text, txtPhone.Text, txtEmail.Text)
lblMessage.Text = "Customer Successfully Added"
End Sub
In addition, I'm not sure how to utilize MSDN. For me, its information overload, I'm wondering how to go about finding the solution on MSDN so i would be able to solve my problems in the future.

VWD 2008 Express. Visual Basic. I have a gridview that displays the grade records of students in a class. I am only able to select one row at a time to edit (using the "Edit" button for that row, followed by "Update" when I am finished. I would like to turn on edit for all rows at the same time or for a group of rows and then have one "Update" button to press when I am done with all editing, much as in a spreadsheet where you are not restricted to a single row before you press "Save."

I have 2 button links and 1 text like this:
Previous JULY Next
Every time i press Previous, a variable mymonth subtracts 1 , and when if i press
Next , the variable mymonth adds 1.
Previous LINK: <%# mymonth - 1 %>
Next LINK: <%# mymonth + 1 %>
All the schedule from the DB is shown, using the following SQL:
SELECT DISTINCT day(mydate) FROM schedule WHERE month(mydate)=" + mymonth + " AND year(mydate)=" + myyear + " ORDER BY day(mydate) ASC"
But my problems are:
- i want to show 3 months backwards from th actual month
- when mymonth is 1 (January) 2011 for example, it would show December, November and October from 2010
- If for example, we are in JULY, it would show until APRIL backwards, and when on APRIL it wouldnt show the PREVIOUS button.
