Java - Alternative For User Session In High Traffic Web Application?
Feb 7, 2011
What would be good/scalable user session alternative in following scenario:
users don't have to have cookies enabled URL query string restriction of 255 characters is imposed lot of GET requests (no hidden form fields)application runs on serveral servers (web farm) some users connect over proxy (same IP) users connect over HTTPS 50 000 concurrent users
I'm wondering should i make it in PHP or ASP.NET/C#. Website contents might grow really fast because it is expected there going to be daily/continuous posts from users. Its an interactive website that has to login, post, check replies and private messages without any advanced/complex features.
I just want to know, What parameters or attributes should be taken in connection string so as to handle high traffic enterprise applications? Like in general we use server, initial catalog, userid, passwd. Some times we add timeout , and in some scenario pool etc. But i don't know what attributes should i take in as my common practice apart from above.
I am using asp.net 2.0. I have been using asp.net membership provider for user management. But I think this would be more efficient if I could do this without using role and membership provider provided in asp.net.In fact I see bulky markups generated when I add login control, createuser control etc. in an asp.net web page.By saying user management, I am referring to the overall login, user activity tracking, password reset/retrieval, role management in an asp.net web application. And I want to implement efficient way to accomplish this.
I am new in web developement, creating the web Traffic Light user control?
THe user control will have 3 indicators just like the real traffic light: red indicator which will be blinking when error state is received; yellow indicator which will be blinking when the warning state is received; green indicator which will be illuminated when the normall state is received.
we are working on a huge project(web application) in asp.net ajax & c#. Per day 300 memmbers will access our website for data entry.we are using mssql 2005.we implemented someany sessions in our project.now our application becomes very slow.We are planning to remove the sessions in our project.
Quick question: Is there a "per-user" data storage object (similar to Session) that I can store data in the global scope (similar to HttpRuntime.Cache)? Almost as if Session and HttpRuntime.Cache had a baby.
Full Background: I have a ASP.NET website that was originally written for a single thread. Now I changed it so that certain actions will spawn a background thread and the browser polls a service to get status updates.
The problem I am having with this is that certain pieces of data are stored into the HttpContext.Session[] object (membership authentication token, for example). These pieces of data need to be unique to each user and accessible to the background thread. Session is not available to the background thread.
I am aware of HttpRuntime.Cache but that would require micromanagement to segment out the users and to expire it at the same time the session is expired. Session, on the other hand, automatically expires this things at the right times that I want it too and is already used by things like the SqlMembershipProvider.
My question is, is there something that behaves similar to the Session but exists in the global scope?
I want a specific session variable (in my case Session["level"]) to expire either on the normal 20 min. timer or at 19:30 every day. Because I change a value in my database everyday at 19:30 and I want this session variable to be related to that value. Is this possible?
We had a UAT and Production version of a .NET web application. UAT was taking around 5 seconds to run a particular operation while Prod was taking 35+ seconds.
This even happened when pointing both web applications at the same database and putting them both on the same machine.
The culprit was finally found to be the following entry, which was in the Prod but not UAT web.config
<trust level="High" originUrl="" />
why this would cause such a significant performance degradation??
Sometime, ajax request will not be responsed when user's network delay is high. So,if I want to stop the request and tell user "request time out" in the client ,What sould I do with asp.net ajax .
I built an asp.net application using web developer express 2008 and sql express2008. The live version hosted on Godaddy, for the most part is working well. However, occasionally the users are reporting an error when the user volume is high.
I have seen the other error pages work correctly and the error I am referring to above is the default error. It is possible that up to 10 users opening the same database table at the same time might be the problem? Would this be a potential cause of my unknown error? And if so what can I do about it?
I'm writing up a security document and it would be great if programmers in other languages than PHP could chime in on (perhaps the default) way sessions are passed by URL in their language's default session handler.
I am developing a web application. This application is fully customised based on the user settings. Suppose, application hosted on [URL] and user can signup on the website and it will get the domain like [URL] and for user2 will be [URL] so and so forth. so in this case how would I maintain the session for each user? each user will be representing a single website along with public interface and admin pages.
what I am thinking is to store all the setting (for each user) in the database and then when ever server received request then get the user info from the URL (first time only and after get it from the session) and get user details but I am not very much satisfied with this approach.
I want to fetch a web page from a ASP.NET site that is only accessible from within a session. I'm using Apache HttpClient. I first open the main page of the site, then I search for the link to the "goal" page, and then I fire up a GET request for the "goal" page. The problem is that when I get the response for the second GET request, I always get the same (first) page. If I open the site with Firefox or Google Chrome I get the "goal" page.
From the first response from the server I get the following headers:
I inspected the traffic with WireShark and all headers look OK. I send the correct cookie back to the server on the second GET request.
I'm using Apache HttpClient. I have only one instance of DefaultHttpClient and I reuse that for the second request. I have BROWSER_COMPATIBILITY Cookie Policy.
I have an asp.net application with c# language. I have a common class which maintain the constants and static variables and fields. I also have a login page. If the user logs in successful I set IsLoggedInSuccessfull as a static boolean variable in common class.
My question is: Will this only work for a specific user session or for overall application ?
Edited: Based on some answers I got another question here.
let say i am using the Static method as Authenticate(User objUser). intention is to call this method when user clicked log in button. where on login button I am let say prepare the User object with certain parameters required for login, then passing to this method. what would be the impact there? let say I have single server for now (no server farm or garden). then there will be the single application level method to authenticate the user, right? and say 10000 user are going to logging in to this site/application then how authenticate() method comes in behaves ? will CLR automatically manage threading there ?
i want to generate the new sessionid in the same httpcontext once the user is successfully authenticated.so, how can i do that ? ( please dont ask why do you want it, i got such kind of requirement).
I have a jar file exporting some functions which i want to use in my asp.net application. How can i achieve this? Will anything change if i use it in an windows azure application?
I have user control page (.acsx file), which has following
<form action=abcd.aspx id="safsdf"> <input name="q" type="text" value="Search this site" size="13" onfocus="this.value='';"/> //this is input box <input type="submit" name="sa" value="Submit" /> //this is input button </form>
When user click on submit button, then it postback to same page. I have another page , which reference to this user control and that is why multiple <form> tag appears on one single page and it cause my webpage to layout incorrectly. I would like to remove <form> tag from my above user control and replace with some other alternative, which does postback to same page without using <form> tag on user control (I have to remove <form> tag from user control because I must keep my <form> tag on other page).
I am using Asp.Net application for calling an existing Java webservice. Recently the web service is configured with Security certificates. Now I need to call the webservice using "https:URL .." and by passing the credentials i.e. UserId and Password.
When I call the webservice using [URL] I get the below error. Is the change in my code is causing this error?
Error:Client found response content type of 'text/html; charset=iso-8859-1', but expected 'text/xml'. The request failed with the error message: --

In java/struts/jsp world, is there something like the ASP.NET custom user control, a piece of UI with back end code that performs a specific logic, and can be pulled and used in another place (for example something like the login control).
I'm new in working with Shell commands by C#.I want to go to specific directory(c:Program Files) by command prompt by c# and run a java application from there.I have a code but its only can open a application from C: directory,I appreciate if anyone can help me regarding it
