W3wp.exe Has High Cpu Usage On Every Request?

Oct 26, 2010

I'm running a Windows 2008 server (a VPS with 1GB of RAM), with SQL Server Express and IIS 7 installed. On it I'm hosting a NopCommerce 1.7 website, with a database of around 26 000 products.

Right now I'm the only user of the website (it's in development) and I'm getting rather bad performance from it. To be more specific every time I make a request, the worker process goes to 90-100% CPU usage for a few seconds. Is it me or this is a lot for a 1 user NopCommerce website?

PS: the worker process uses between 100MB-400MB of memory (private working set), and SQL Server with this database, around 160MB.

SQL Server :: Unexpected Error Message When The User Volume Is High?

Nov 25, 2010

I built an asp.net application using web developer express 2008 and sql express2008. The live version hosted on Godaddy, for the most part is working well. However, occasionally the users are reporting an error when the user volume is high.

Here is part of my web.config code:

<customErrors defaultRedirect="/Error/error.htm" mode="On">
<error statusCode="400" redirect="/Error/BadRequest.htm"/>
<error statusCode="404" redirect="/Error/NotFound.htm"/>
<error statusCode="408" redirect="/Error/TimeOut.htm"/>
</customErrors>

I have seen the other error pages work correctly and the error I am referring to above is the default error.It is possible that up to 10 users opening the same database table at the same time might be the problem? Would this be a potential cause of my unknown error? And if so what can I do about it?

Page.User Is Null During AJAX Request?

Jul 26, 2010

I'm using the MVC2 framework and one of my views has a bit of conditional logic that gets the Page.User.Identity object and does a comparison with other values to determine what to display.That all works fine on the initial page load, but when I make an AJAX call to get partial page updates (I'm doing this all manually with YUI3, not the .NET AJAX stuff) the Page.User object is always null.

AJAX :: Global Progress Bar With A Delay?

which works well, however, I would like to have a delay as well so that if the control loads within a second the progress bar does not show.

AJAX :: ToolkitScriptManager CombineScript Causes High CPU?

May 19, 2010

We have a website which uses a lot of AJAX, specifically update panels, modal popup extenders and a few other extenders. Let me give you a really brief overview of the application structure. We have a master page which hosts the ToolkitScriptManager object and then all the other pages in the site are children of this master page. We have specified the CombineScripts property to True and we have also specified the CombineScriptsHandlerUrl property to point to the handler that comes with the sample AJAX website. We have set the enableCompression and enableCaching properties to True in the web.config file.

We are trying to determine application performance on this site and we have found out that on each page request, the CPU utilization goes up to a 50% which is really very strange (as this is only for 1 user). When we change the CombinScripts property to false, the CPU utilization comes down to 3-4% for each request. The problem which we cannot understand is why is the server not able to cache the combined scripts and why does it try to combine the scripts on each request which is taking the utilization to a very high percentage. I have read a lot on the internet that if we use a handler for combining scripts, it will cache the combine scripts on the server and it will be served from the cache but clearly in our case it does not seem to be working.

We have also tried to use ScriptManager instead and include all the script references (using the ScriptReferenceProfiler) we could in the CompositeScript tag but that does the same thing to CPU as the CombineScripts.

User Identity Name Showing Windows User Instead Of Network Service?

Jun 28, 2011

In the IIS, it shows that the web app (i'm using) is using an application pool that uses NETWORK SERVICE account for identity. But when I debug/run my web app, User.Identity.Name shows that my windows user login instead. I checked my web.config file, and it does not have Impersonate enabled. In fact, I set it to false, and it still shows the same.

AJAX :: Delay ModalPopup Content Download Until The Popup Is Shown?

Oct 12, 2010

I have a modal popup extender and associated panel on a page. The modal popup is displayed when a user clicks on a button. The content of the popup might consist of a series of hi-res images which might take a significant time to download. The problem is that although the modal popup is not shown its content is downloaded regardless. I think that popup is initially assigned "display:none" and it's code and content are downloaded by the browser - which is an expected behavior.

how to delay download of the content until the popup is shown?

I think I could do a server-side show() on the modal popup but I wonder if there are other solutions.

Test If User Comes From Local Network?

Jul 14, 2010

I want to use C#/ASP.net to find out whether the user browsing the website is on the same network so that certain links are only displayed while in the office (to those who have access to them).

Anyone accessing from within the office will be doing so by going to it's local IP address (i.e. 192.168.x.x) whereas external users will be browsing to the public domain name.

All I need is some way to differentiate between the two types of user.

Anonymous User Cannot Print To A Network Printer?

May 17, 2010

I have an ASP.NET application where user is Anonymous when he connects to website. Also I have a printing server inside network. I want to let this user to print to the network printer.

In order to print I have to use File.Copy command. When I do this I get "Access denied". So I tried to impersonate the user with credentials of user that is inside domain and has the rights to print to that specific printer.

The problem is this user has to be Administrator, and I cannot let him be the Administrator. When this user is not Administrator then the printing is not working ("Access denied").

I tried to use Network Credentials but I don't know how to set credentials to command File.Copy. This command doesn't have any extensions or overloading for credentials.

Security - Accessing Network Folder With Network Service Account

Aug 17, 2010

My ASP.NET MVC 2 application runs under built-in local NETWORK SERVICE account. I want to set up access permissions for the folder which resides in another computer, but in the same domain. I located that folder right-clicked to open its properties form, clicked to Security tab and pressed Add button which displayed Add user form with correct domain name in the location field. I referred to the account with following syntax:

<domain name><server name>$

because I learned that NETWORK SERVICE account uses machine account when connected to other computers in the domain. However, the system couldn't find the account, so refuses to add the account. Without the domain name it adds a user, but that user seems to be local user, not web server's NETWORK SERVICE account. What am I doing wrong?

By the way, the above syntax worked when I created login for the sql server which is different computer from the web server.

Retrieve Web User's Identity Outside Of Request Scope?

Feb 14, 2011

I have an ASP.NET app that logs Audit reports using nHibernate's IPreUpdateListener. In order to set the current user in the Listener events, I was using System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent(). This works fine when debugging on my machine, but when I move it to the staging server, I'm getting the ASP.NET process credentials, not the requesting user.

In the ASP.NET page, I can use Request.LogonUserIdentity (which works fine since I'm using integrated authentication), but how do I reference this user directly without having to pass it directly to my event? I don't want to have to pass this info through the pipeline because it really doesn't belong in the intermediate events/calls.

Vb.net - Attach An Integer To An Exe File On User-request?

Dec 25, 2010

I have no experience on this matter, so I do not expect anyone to explain in details how this is done, just point me in the right direction, maybe tell me what the correct name for this is. I'm sure it is pretty commonly in use.

I think the best way to explain this, is through my exact need. So, I have a button on my website that should cause the user to download an exe file. The exe file pretty much gathers a few informations from the users PC, and post them to my data-base through a web-service. Now my problem is, these informations should be assigned to the user who downloaded the exe file's row in the DataBase.

All this would be solved by assigning a single Integer value(the users ID) to this exe file on the download request, and then a way for the exe file to also get this value assigned to it, but how do I do that?

My language is asp.net for my website, and the exe file is written in vb.net.

I know I could fake this by making the exe file show a login-form and get the user-id this way, but I really like the application run without the user noticing to much.
