Alternative Approach To User Management In Web Application?
Jan 28, 2010
I am using asp.net 2.0. I have been using asp.net membership provider for user management. But I think this would be more efficient if I could do this without using role and membership provider provided in asp.net.In fact I see bulky markups generated when I add login control, createuser control etc. in an asp.net web page.By saying user management, I am referring to the overall login, user activity tracking, password reset/retrieval, role management in an asp.net web application. And I want to implement efficient way to accomplish this.
What would be good/scalable user session alternative in following scenario:
users don't have to have cookies enabled URL query string restriction of 255 characters is imposed lot of GET requests (no hidden form fields)application runs on serveral servers (web farm) some users connect over proxy (same IP) users connect over HTTPS 50 000 concurrent users
We have lot of application parameters for each module in a C# .NET 4 ASP website. parameter examples: timeouts, formulae constants, thread limits per module, $ charges per usage etc. What is best out of following approaches we know: Use DB config table Use an xml. load that xml into local cache on start (and on xml change) simple constants.cs file with public const int XYZ = 123; type of key-value pairs. web.config (though i think its mostly for deployment type of config)
we are working on a huge project(web application) in asp.net ajax & c#. Per day 300 memmbers will access our website for data entry.we are using mssql 2005.we implemented someany sessions in our project.now our application becomes very slow.We are planning to remove the sessions in our project.
I am developing a CMS application. Its a very huge deep and with full of configurable features. Current, I am developing it using Asp.net C#, form authentication and by creating UserControls.
There are lot of configurable items need to decide at run time as per user roles and some rules are predefined and some will be defined by Admin at runtime. The all information is stored in DB. I am getting lot of issues with USerControls. I consulted with some other guys who told my approach is wrong, I should go through DB data fetching. I really don't understand what is it? It is something like my all pages will be stores in Database and will construct at runtime and display as per rights?
My question is about an approach, and I am looking for tips or links to help me develop a solution. I have an .NET 4.0 web forms application that works with Forms authentication using the aspnetdb SQL database of users and passwords. A new feature for the application is a new authentication mechanism using single sign on to allow access for thousands of new users. Essentially, when the user logs in through the new single-sign-on method, I will be able to identify them as legitimate users with a role I will have something like HttpContext.Current.Session["email_of_authenticated_user"] (their identity) and HttpContext.Current.Session["role_of_authenticated_user"] (their role).
Well i want to know how many architecture approaches we can use in asp.net web application. i was asked about it. i told him that i use a appcode for dal and bal and the presentation layer. but he was not convince. basically i want to ask what web application architecture an asp.net web application guru would use keeping in mind the different metrics ( i am talking minus web services or any SOA thing)
I am involved in designing a asp.net webforms application using .NET 3.5. I have a requirement where we need to log exceptions.
What is the best approach for exception handling, given that there would be concurrent users for this application?
Is there a need or possibility to log in exceptions at a user level? My support team in-charge wants to have a feature where the support team can get user specific log files.
To give you a background, this application is currently on VB 6.0 and we are migrating it along with some enhancements. So, today the support personnel have a provision to get user specific log files.
I am looking for an opensource .Net 4.0 user profile and role management module. I need to manage basic user profile updates and management. Does any body know if such a thing exist?
I have user control page (.acsx file), which has following
<form action=abcd.aspx id="safsdf"> <input name="q" type="text" value="Search this site" size="13" onfocus="this.value='';"/> //this is input box <input type="submit" name="sa" value="Submit" /> //this is input button </form>
When user click on submit button, then it postback to same page. I have another page , which reference to this user control and that is why multiple <form> tag appears on one single page and it cause my webpage to layout incorrectly. I would like to remove <form> tag from my above user control and replace with some other alternative, which does postback to same page without using <form> tag on user control (I have to remove <form> tag from user control because I must keep my <form> tag on other page).
we are experiencing big difficulties in the configuration of ASP.Net state service and II7. The service seems not working correctly because when the application pools recycles the applicatio loose the session. If we try the same configuration in IIS6 it works correcly. What is the correct way to configure the aspnet session state service in iis7?

I Want To Use A Session Variable From One Application to Another Application. Is That Possible in ASP.NET 3.5 Or Greater To Use Session Variables As i Required. My Both Applications Host In Same IIS Server.
I am a little bit new at handling multiple sessions congruently.
Basically i have created a chat application. In which i have a moderator page.
Now the moderator has the privilege to block particular users from the chat. Every user including the moderator has a session variable defined as Session["UserID"].
e.g for the username "moderator" the Session["UserID"]=moderator.
Now as i am logged in as the moderator how do i delete the session of a particular user whom i want to block the chat from commencing.
a. I want to have User A as a common user for both application X and Y. b. User A can have different roles on X and Y. Eg. Read permission on Y and Write Permission on Y.
How do i configure ASP.NET membership to achieve about functionality.
I have a requirement for building an instant messenger application for the selected user.
I have googled for the solution but without any sucess. My requirement is once a user initiates a chat with another user, the another user needs to get a popup of the chat window, where the two users can start chatting.
I developing ASP.Net for some years now and every time (very often) I code a new asp.net application I need to make sure that all the texts (labels, buttons, ... ) I use in the Application must be managed and updated by an admin. Therefor I implemented a own simple component, which updates the data to a Strings table in the application database. This method works for me, but it is a bit painstaking each and every element to my DataUpdatingComponent. How are you handling this problem? Do you know any articles or blog entries handling this problem?
Create a class Employee which will implement the below interface: IEmployee. The application should accept the function to invoke and its parameters from the console in the Format:
The implemetation shold have the necessary checks on whether the input is in correct format by handling like FormatException. And the program should be able to continuously accept the input and print corresponding output until the input given as "Exit".
using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; using System.Threading.Tasks;
namespace ConsoleApplication1
[CODE]..
Issue: I am unable take the user input in the corresponding format.in the above code everytime I have to give the user input in the format "Set:Age:33" but this is not I m looking for .Actually firstly the expected input and output should be given in the format as per the screenshot I have attached.
I have two web applications and sometimes I need user to jump from one application to another. Since they are two web applications( websites) in the same machine, I can not share session between them.
The technical challenge for me is how to pass session information (I only need to pass userID string information in the session) from one source application to another destination application -- so that the user feels Single Sign On and personal information is displayed for him/her in both application (as the userID is passed to the destination application, no re-login is needed).
Another challenge is that when the user jumps to another URL in another application -- I just need to generate the common unified [URL]
What is the best approach to one to many relationships?
This is my scenario:
I have a simple one to many relation:
Customer CustomerID Name tel CustomerNotes Id Note customerID
I want to have a DETAIL view of customers and CREATE view for CustomerNotes all in the same page.
I create CustomerController and the different views and its respective actions for edit, create, delete, etc.
I also create a CustomerNotesController and the views and actions like before, but I made the views PARTIALS
I put a RENDERPARTIAL for the CustomerNotes create view in the Details view from Customer.
When I run the app, the page is render as expected: It shows the detail info of the customer and bellow the create form for the notes. However, when I click SAVE, nothing happens. I put a breakpoint in the notes controller and never get hit.
I also try with RenderAction and don't work at all.
