Javascript - Modifying Controls Collection Error In VB.net?

Mar 31, 2011

I need a function to be performed on the page load, which uses a stored session variable. I have added the following to my <body> tag.

<body onload="doSomething(event,'<%= Session("StartTime") %>')>

This does work. However, it is causing a problem elsewhere, when I try to add a control to my controls collection:

dim myPanel= New Panel
...
Me.Controls.Add(myPanel)

giving the following error:
"The Controls collection cannot be
modified because the control contains
code blocks (i.e. <% ... %>). "

I've tried the suggestion of using <%#...%> instead of <%=...%>, but this prevents the session variable being found- it is just blank.

AJAX :: Modifying JavaScript Files In The AjaxControlToolkit?

Jan 19, 2010

I have downloaded the source code for the latest version of the AjaxControlToolkit and have noticed that there are differences in the scripts included in the solution.

Previously, only one debug version of a JavaScript file was included for each control. This was then stripped of newlines and comments before building in release mode to embed these modified files in the output dll. However, now the solution has both the debug.js and .js versions (debug and compressed versions, respectively) included in the solution for each control.

My question is, if I desired to make changes to the debug versions of the JavaScript file for any control, does the compressed version of the file get generated automatically or is there some manual action I need to take to produce those files? It appears as though with this solution there are no integrated build tasks as in the previous versions so I feel like my latter suspicion may be correct but was hoping for input from somebody who knows more about this.

I do not like the idea of including overriden methods of toolkit funtions in my site's JavaScript, I am just curious how I would go about producing the release version of the script. In other words, how would the developers that work on the AjaxControlToolkit do this when working with the solution.\ | m ny;[6n n

Modifying Control With Javascript - Invalid Postback Or Callback Argument

Dec 31, 2010

I have a a dropdown on a page

<asp:DropDownList ID="drpName" AutoPostBack="true" AppendDataBoundItems="true" runat="server" ></asp:DropDownList>

and I on occasion want to add items to it using javascript/jquery.

When I select the items that have been added and it does a postback I get the following error:

Invalid postback or callback argument. Event validation is enabled using in configuration or <%@ Page EnableEventValidation="true" %> in a page. For security purposes, this feature verifies that arguments to postback or callback events originate from the server control that originally rendered them. If the data is valid and expected, use the ClientScriptManager.RegisterForEventValidation method in order to register the postback or callback data for validation.

Forms Data Controls :: Bind A Collection Within A Collection To A Gridview?

Jul 26, 2010

I have a list of objects that I want to bind to a gridview. Creating that list and binding it works fine for most of the public properties in that list.

There are some objects contained in each of those objects... for instance there is an Address object.

object.Address.Line1;

object.Address.Line2;

When I bind this to my gridview, I have no issues with stuff like object.DateRegistered, but how can I access things like object.Address.WhatEverProperty? I always get this error:

"A field or property with the name 'xxx.xxxx' was not found on the selected data source."

AJAX :: Ajaxtoolkit Version 4 - Error 'The Controls Collection Cannot Be Modified Because The Control Contains Code Blocks"

Sep 23, 2010

I was working on an asp.net 3.5 website and used ajaxtoolkit in it and when I use it in my page it was registered as below

<%@ Register assembly="AjaxControlToolkit" namespace="AjaxControlToolkit" tagprefix="cc1" %>

and it was working well even After I upgraded my wevbsite to .net version 4 but when I started a new website from scratch in vs2010 using .net4 when I use ajax toolkit in this new site it is registered as folowing

<%@ Register assembly="AjaxControlToolkit" namespace="AjaxControlToolkit" tagprefix="asp" %>

and when I run the page I get the error The Controls collection cannot be modified because the control contains code blocks (i.e. <% ... %>) I don't Know what is the reason for this. I noticed another thing. in my old website I was using thckbox script by using the files common.js, jquery-1.3.2.js,jquery.thickbox.js and puting them in a Javascript folder ad then registering them in Script manager as following

<asp:ScriptManager ID="ScriptManager1" runat="server">
<Scripts>
<asp:ScriptReference Path="~/Javascript/jquery-1.3.2.js" />
<asp:ScriptReference Path="~/Javascript/jquery.thickbox.js" />
<asp:ScriptReference Path="~/Javascript/common.js" />
</Scripts>
</asp:ScriptManager>

this was working well also but in my new site the jquery file version was jquery-1.4.1.js but also I added the old version f the javascripts files in the built in Scripts folder that is created by default b the new site and followed the same way in registering them in the script managerchange the JavaScript folder to the built in folder Scripts

<asp:ScriptManager ID="ScriptManager1" runat="server">
<Scripts>
<asp:ScriptReference Path="~/Scripts/jquery-1.3.2.js" />
<asp:ScriptReference Path="~/Scripts/jquery.thickbox.js" />
<asp:ScriptReference Path="~/Scripts/common.js" />
</Scripts>
</asp:ScriptManager>

but this doesn't work also in the new site I think that there is something diffirent in the 2 case which leads to this change in performance I wish your support and advice about how to solve this matter

Add Controls To A Collection And Update From Collection?

Mar 25, 2011

I have an ASP.NET app with lots of textboxes all over the page that need updating at various points through program execution.

These textboxes actually belong to a certain class, so for easy updating I thought I could create a Dictionary(Of string, object) and add the control.ID and the control to it and then for updating do something like this:

(in case of updating textbox.text):

[code]....

However the text property of the textbox does not actually get updated. I'm mainly trying to avoid having to manually do textbox.text = somestring for each one of my textboxes every time I have to update them.

Error Message, "The Controls Collection Cannot Be Modified Because The Control Contains Code Blocks"

Apr 16, 2010

I'm receiving this error on a page that previously worked fine, in fact the only change I've made to the page recently was to add another asp:TextBox and asp:RequiredFieldValidator control.

The page already had numerous ASP.NET controls on it, so I cannot see why these extra controls would make a difference, anyway I shall post the code below and hopefully you can see what the error is:

Page Throws ViewState Error When Items Collection Of Dropdownlist Is Modified In IndexChanged Event

Feb 25, 2011

I have an ASCX control which is a special dropdownlist. I add that control dynamically to the page and fill it with data. This control has a postback that will change the contents of a second dynamically created standard dropdownlist.

When I change the selection on the first dropdown, the indexchanged fires and I get new data and attempt to place it in the second dropdownlist's items collection, by first clearing it then filling it with new data.

This works fine the first time a change the selection, but when I select a second time the following error is thrown:

The control tree into which viewstate is being loaded must match the control tree that was used to save viewstate during the previous request.

I'm not adding or removing new controls in the fired event, only changing data. And again, it works the first time, but doesn't subsequent times.

If I disable stateview on the child control, then the control just doesn't get updated with data at all.

Web Forms :: Modifying One Controls Object From Another Control?

Mar 17, 2010

I have two user controls (wishlist & shopping cart) The shopping cart & wishlist objects are both in sessions.Also both controls are sitting inside the masterpage and the wishlist has the ability to move an item to the shopping cart. Now how do i achieve this? Originally i thought i would expose a public method within shopping cart called "BindItems" which would rebind the datacontrol, however this is causing .NET's automatic postback validation to throw an exception.

Invalid postback or callback argument. Event validation is enabled using <pages enableEventValidation="true"/> in configuration or <%@ Page EnableEventValidation="true" %> in a page.For security purposes, this feature verifies that arguments to postback or callback events originate from the server control that originally rendered them. If the data is valid and expected, use the ClientScriptManager.RegisterForEventValidation method in order to register the postback or callback data for validation.I dont want to set EnableEventValidation to false either for security reasons.
