Javascript - Change The URL Of The "parent" Frame?

Dec 5, 2010

I have a website which I host myself. I do not have a static IP address so I have all traffic for my domain forwarded with masking to my DDNS account. The resulting page looks like this...

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd">
<html>
<head>
<title>mydomianname.com</title>
</head>
<frameset rows="100%,*" border="0">
<frame src="http://myddns.dyndns.org/mydomainname" frameborder="0" />
<frame frameborder="0" noresize />
</frameset>
</html>

How can I update the URL of the "parent" frame as users navigate within the "child" frame?

UPDATE: Success?

I have tried doing this with javascript but had an issue getting the correct href to my javascript function with out having adverse side effects (having two windows open up, having my main window go to the wrong location, or making it so the back button didn't work right). All I needed was an attribute of my a tag to hold a value that I could use in my javascript, but would do nothing else at all. Adding the attributed value event though it is not a native attribute to the a tag works great.

The a tag...

<a onclick="url_update(this);" value="test/test.html" href="javascript:void(0);">test link</a>

and the javascript function...

function url_update(element){
base_url = 'http://mydomain.com/';
window.parent.location.href = base_url + element.getAttribute('value');
}

the resulting updated URL is...

http://mydomain.com/test/test.html

... and there are none of the previously mentioned side effects.

The only "side effect" that I would like to fix is display of the link in the info bar at the bottom of a browser window. Right now it says javascript:void(0); because that is what is written in my href attribute, but I would like it to show the updated URL when the link is hovered over... any thoughts?

It would be even better if I could scrap all of this javascript and use IIS 7 URL Rewrite 2.0 to do this instead... but I have yet to master the black art of URL rewriting.

Web Forms :: Force A Page To Open In Parent Frame (whole Window)?

Jun 25, 2010

Is there any way to force a page (that opens in an iframe) to load in the parent frame (whole page/window)?

I am in a scenario where I really had to use iframes to maintain my website branding because my eCommerce provider does not support customizations. When Payment is made, I would like my TransactionComplete.aspx to open in the parent frame and not within the same child frame.

Web Forms :: Server.Transfer Or Response.Redirect To Parent Frame Or New Window

Jul 7, 2010

rl711
You have to use target attribute in form tag:
<form runat=server target=_blank> // new window
or
<form runat=server target=_top> // above all frames
or
<form runat=server target=_parent> //parent frame
or
<form runat=server target=someframe> // a frame by name

This can only work if the Server.Transfer is invoked from within the form such as a button click.

If your Server.Transfer method is in the Page_load event (which isn't a form event), how do you set a target window to Server.Transfer?

Javascript - TinyMCE Losing Frame In IE8?

I have a web-site. We are using TinyMCE as our text editor. I just upgraded to the newest version and added the media plugin so our users can add videos to their enteries.The upgrade works great on Chrome, FireFox, IE7. However, it does not work with IE8. The frame around the editor disappears along with the toolbar.

Here is the init code I'm using:

Web Forms :: Putting A Frame In Another Frame?

Mar 12, 2010

I have this situation where I have three pages:

The first page, default.htm, is a frameset page that uses the other two pages.

The second page, casemenu.aspx, is a form that contains an object we call "PopupManager": It has an element <xxx:PopupManager runat="server"/>. This object is dependent on the standard ScriptManager, which requires a form.

The third page, header.aspx, contains three links. Each link calls a JScript function that in turn calls a function on the Popup Manager. It makes the call to the popup manager with an expression like 'top.frames.casemenu._PopupManager'.

Now, the problem I have is that I have to change default.htm to be a normal page containing an iframe, which will refer to a new page, container.aspx, which has the original frameset. When I do that, I can no longer access the PopupManager the same way ('top.frames.casemenu._PopupManager' no longer works.)

I would like some way to refer to the PopupManager relative to header.aspx, something like "self.parent.frames.casemenu._PopupManager", but that doesn't work.

C# - Change XML Child Element Into Parent?

Jul 8, 2010

I have an xml document that has a structure like so:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1" ?>
- <newdataset xml="version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1"">
- <officelist>
<officeid>2</officeid>
<office>Office</office>
<region>BC</region>

I would like to have the office id = 2 to be its own element. Like so

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1" ?>
<newdataset xml="version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1"">
<officelist>
<officeid id=2/>
<office>Office</office>
<region>BC</region>
</officeid>
</officelist>
</newdataset>
xmlDS += offices.GetXml();
xmlDS = xmlDS.Replace(@"xml:space=""preserve""", " ");
XmlDocument doc = new XmlDocument();
XmlNode declaration = doc.CreateNode(XmlNodeType.XmlDeclaration, null, null);
doc.LoadXml(xmlDS);
doc.Save(Response.OutputStream);

That is my code so far... not sure how to set a child node to become a parent node

Javascript - Refresh Parent Page After Greybox Close?

Dec 24, 2010

I have a blog, where people can make comments. I've now decided to put the "writecomments.aspx" file in a Greybox popup-window. It works, but I want to close the window from codebehind (or javascript) after the comment is written. And then I want to refresh the blog page (the parent page) to show the new comment.

This is the code that opens the greybox (writecomments.aspx) page:

<a href='WriteComments.aspx?BlogId=<%# DataBinder.Eval(Container, "DataItem.id") %>' rel="gb_page_center[500, 500]">Skriv kommentar</a>

In the writecomments.aspx file, I just have 2 textboxes and 1 button (save-button). How can I make the greybox window close itself, and then somehow refresh the blog.aspx? Or maybe just a specific updatepanel for the current comments?

Edit

I got it working, I had to put this code in the codebehind, after the db-insert: Page.ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(this.GetType(), "close", "parent.parent.GB_hide();", true); And for the refresh of the parent page, I edited the gb_scripts.js file on line 12 from false to true: this.reload_on_close=true;

EDIT AGAIN

Actually, I modified it a bit, so, I put the gb_scripts.js file back to it's default state, and I just just the followig line of code in the WriteComments.aspx codebehind file, just after the db-insert:

Page.ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(this.GetType(), "close", "parent.parent.window.location.reload();parent.parent.GB_hide();", true);

Now, the Greybox is closing, and then, the blog page is refreshing, just like I want :)

How To Call UserControl Javascript When Parent Page Submits To Server

Sep 8, 2010

I have an asp.net usercontrol located on on my aspx page. In the usercontrol there is a javascript function that I would like to fire everytime the page that contains the usercontrol submits to the server. (directly before this happens) Ideally I prefer to not have to write any code in the parent to make this happen, but I am not sure what the usercontrol may be capable of at this time. Can the usercontrol know that the page is submitting to the server and fire the function before this happens? Is there some sort of event that takes place here?

Postbacks And Validators - Get The Parent Control (which Are All Consistently Panels) Using JavaScript?

Feb 18, 2010

I'm using the built-in ASP validators on a few form elements. They work fine - if I click the submit button (a Button), validation occurs without postback and errors are displayed in a ValidationSummary. When that occurs, I also want to call a method in codebehind which changes the CSS of elements, switching their background color to red to reflect errors. I've tried to call this method using both OnClick and OnClientClick in the submit Button, but neither parameter seems to fire the method - client-side validation always takes priority, and a postback never occurs. Can anyone enlighten me?

EDIT #1 Using orandovs link worked alright for changing the element itself, but how about its parent? For example, in C# I'm doing:

foreach (BaseValidator validator in Page.Validators)
{
Panel panel = validator.Parent as Panel;
if (!validator.IsValid)
panel.CssClass = "error";
else
panel.CssClass = "normal";
}

Is there a way to get the parent control (which are all consistently Panels, so I know CssClass will exist) using JavaScript? Something like: $("#" + Page_Validators[i].controltovalidate.parent).CssClass("error");

Javascript - Passing Data Between A Parent Window And A Child Popup Window With JQuery

Dec 3, 2010

I have the following HTML

<tr>
<td class="label" valign="top">
Affiliate Party
</td>
<td class="field">
<input type="hidden" name="ctl00$MainContent$ExternalAccountAttributes$AffiliatePartyId" id="AffiliatePartyId" />
<input name="ctl00$MainContent$ExternalAccountAttributes$AffiliatePartyName" type="text" id="AffiliatePartyName" class="PartyLookup" />
</td>
</tr>

and the following Javascript/jQuery

$(".PartyLookup").after("<img src='Images/book_open.png' class='PartyLookupToggle' style='padding-left:4px;' />");
$(".PartyLookupToggle").click(function () {
window.open("PartySearch.aspx", "PartySearch", "width=400,height=50");
return false;
});

I need to be able to flag ANY PartyId input field with class="PartyLookup" so that it will modify the DOM and include the image next to the input field. The popup window returns data to populate both the hidden and text fields, but since the click() is generic I need to pass it the ID of the input field.
