I am working on a 3-tier asp.net application. Currently I'm stuck up in a situation where I need to handle a specific type of exception (User Defined) in DAL and Show alert to the user if that exception occurs in DAL.
I tried following things:
1) I raised that exception from the DAL and catch it in BLL and throw a new BLL exception to for that DAL exception and finally catch it in the UI layer to show the alert to the user. I've successfully implement this in my project. But there are some issues in this approach. First of all I feel this is not right way to do this as it may lead to performance related issues. Secondly, the application contains more than 500 pages and classes. so I need to attach additional catch block in every method to catch the BLL exception. which is the last option i'd like to take.
2) in second approach I logged the the DAL exception into a text file. but problem in this approach is that how could the UI layer know that exception has occurred and show the alert to the user. Is there any event in asp.net where i could handle all this activities?
my question is what is the best approach to handle this type of situation? Will Exception handling block help me in this?
I've tried reading many articles on this but i couldn't get an answer for my question? I might not be using right keywords for my search.
I have put the following method in my master page. It works when I call it on a full post back, but when I call it from a updatePanel's asyncPostBack no alert is shown.
I Have a UpdateProgress in my page. I have a button that save and show a alert message if a condition is true.
The problem is that If I use the UpdatePanel+UpdateProgress my alert does not show, if I remove the UpdatePanel+UpdateProgress from my page, the alert is display!
once the user clicks tje button he is redicected to logout.aspx page.
on the page_load of this page(logout.aspx) i am terminating the session using Session.Abandon();
when the user clicks back button of the browser as the sesssion is abandon i want to show the alert message and then redirect to other page.
instead of above it allowing the user to again redirect to logout.aspx page.(the operations are not reflecting on the database when he clicks back and tries to select the radio button).
below is my code
using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Web; using System.Web.UI; using System.Web.UI.WebControls; using System.Data.SqlClient
I'm evaluating two options of accessing a server side data on client side. Little bit confused about the efficiency or may be you can call it as finding best approach to do it.
I need to access a server side data may be an integer value in javascript on client side. I know about two options to do it.Create a public variable or property on server side and set it to javascript variable on client side as below:
var value = eval(<% =value %>);
Create a asp hidden variable and set value in this hidden variable from server side and access it through javascript using document.getElementById().
Which is the best approach and what are the pros and cons?
I am using 4 required field validators,4 regular expression validators and 4 compare validators for 4 text boxes.Is it possible to show error messagesin an alert or message box when validation fails?If possible please send code sample.
I've got an aspx masterpage and want to include Google's jQuery script. However, to test it's working, I've got the below code in the head of my masterpage. However, none of the content pages display the alert. What am I missing?
I should be sleeping but this is really bugging me. I can't get a simple javascript alert box to display in my asp.net project. Hopefully someone can see what I'm doing wrong. My test page is this:
Inside the for loop, an exception is thrown when the child node is attempted to be created. When I replace the childNode variable with a string literal, eg "test", it works fine.
i am not able to show an alert message when a file is uploaded from a FileUpload control which is more than the size mentioned in web.config file like this in my situation...
