But this is not sufficient as some illegal characters are not being removed, is there a static method somewhere in the framework that will format my string for clean insertion into html?Update: my initial question was slightly ambiguous. the string needs to be valid as in alert('this is some 'illegal text' that will not popup');I will try Server.HtmlEncode, hopefully it will do the trick.

Feb 11, 2010Have a GridView in an UpdatePanel, all works fine. Click the Submit() button which updates the database on postback, then the GridView is bound in code and I register an alert:

Calling UpdatePanel1.Update() causes the popup to appear. All fine but what I am noticing is that the alert occurs just before the page has fully updated and is causing a few minor layout issues that are resolved when the alert button is closed (by clicking OK). Is there a way to generate an alert after a full UpdatePanel refresh, so something like:
ScriptManager.RegisterFullyLoadedScript(this.UpdatePanel1, typeof(string), "dopopup", "alert('Operation successful!');", true);
I tried a simple wait() in the code like this:
ScriptManager.RegisterStartupScript(this.UpdatePanel1, typeof(string), "dopopup", "wait(100);alert('Operation successful!');", true);
But this didn't work.

May 18, 2010I think the popup message is a poor idea because OnClientUploadError has already provided developers a good option to handle the error easily in whichever way they prefer. The worst is that if a user clicks OK, he will see a window that should be seen only by software developers. Is there any trick to stop the error alert?

Jul 28, 2010I am a new developer and working on a ASP.Net Site, I am using an Update panel which is updateing the data from SQL database after every few seconds, there is some records in the table for the login user. Now I want to generate a Popup, or Alret Message autometically, every time when update panel is updated, My Update panel has SQLDatasource and gridview its working correctly with timer after every 15 seconds.
But When I am Coding under the Timer Tick the Alret massege is not showing. While I need a notification alret also with every trip of update panel if there is something avilable in the data tabel. I am using Code in Timer Tick: ra is getting from function return value if the table has some records. if(ra>1) response.write("<Script> alert ('something')<Script>); but its not working

and it itself works fine i.e. the message box is shown.
But e.g. with Firefox when the user does not immediately click OK-button on the alert message, the page stays dimmed after the alert box has gone. With IE 8 this seems not to happen (or is very rare).
