Somehow I deleted my App_Data folder and had to recreate it... it only had one database in it ... an Access Database. My .aspx pages that use the DB are giving permission errors when they load... I can't find anyplace in my DB or on my VWD Express where I can set the permissions (nor on my hosting service).
Im just wondering if the default access rights of IIS in the PC where it is running is administrator? and by default does IIS has access to computer resources e.g. Printer, Finger Print Scanner, Smartcard reader installed in the same computer where the IIS is running.
When I upload a file through a web page to a directory on the webserver the file does not inherit the parent folders rights. So when a user tries to access the file from the local network after the upload they recieve access denied. How can I set the rights on the file after the upload or get the rights to set correctly when the file is uploaded. The file uploads correctly but only has the rights of Network service, system, internet guest account and IIS_WPG. I need it to have a specific user or everyone which the parent folder has and is set to propogate permissions.
I have implemented Membership and Role Provider in my web site. Membership and Role information is stored in database created from aspnet_regsql option.
I want to store the access rights given to the pages in ASP.NET Configuation option in Database inspite of web.config file and want to give page wise add, edit, view and delete rights that should also be stored in database.
Is there any inbuit class like Membership and Role to add page access rights?
i am currently developing an asp.net mvc 2 web application and i would like to create new foldersprogrammatically with access rights, in order to enable loged on users upload their image files. My question has to do with how to assign write access using Directory.CreateDirectory function and assigning DirectorySecurity rules (meaning for which user should i enable user rights, etc...). Note that the hosting envirnoment uses IIS 7.
LDAP authentication required Internal users automatically authenticated, external users requires login Where do I store complex access control rights?
In the AD/LDAP or in the Application itself (asp.membership db).
Looking to build this in asp.net mvc 2 and using membership features, so best practice here i guess is that we roll our own custom provider to acomplish this...
I want to show columns in gridview based on access rights/roles.That is i want to show parents column if there is parents login or else i want to show students column if there is students login.
I have an application 'A' builded by VS2005 and Framework 2.0.50727 before. And I am fixing an application 'B' builded by VS2003 with Framework 1.0, so I installed 1.0 yesterday.Everything worked fine but today when I was running 'B', it showed "Visual Studio cannot create or open the application because the Web server on this computer is not running. Start the Web serber before proceeding."Even if I reintall 1.0, VS2003 still shows this message. Then I closed VS2003 and open VS2005 to run application 'A' to see if app 'A' works fine.
But after I run app 'A', the IE says cannot display web page.So I checked my Default Web Site in IIS, it says 'The connection to the server was lost. Do you want to attempt to reconnect?'I tried solutions from internet to solve running app 'A' :1. Type C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727 -i or -u in command.2. Checked the World Wide Web Publishing status is startedThe running app 'A' still gave me cannot display IE picture.Does anyone know how can I do for it?
i have few variable in login page that is read from db.If the internet connection is loss suddenly during read process, my frst page is not able to be loaded and show to user.I am thinking to have this page show when internet connection lost. Is it possible to do so?The page is shown as the picture below :
Thing is, if I run this locally and drop my internet connection the web service returns a 500 error (like I want it to do) and deleteCustomer(customer.id); is not called. However, on the live site if I drop my connection the web service does not return an error and deleteCustomer(customer.id); is called even if I don't have a connection to the internet (customer gets deleted from local database without being posted to the web server).
just for my testing purpose i know i can define both the connection's outside in a single web config file by different name's and access them in my front end according to it but what if i want to have seprate for both connection's web.config situation is like this see image so i want to access my connections from second web config file how i can do that.
I have a rather large gridview that I need to page. the follwoing is my code but when I try to page it gives me a internet lost connection error??? I have not gotten to work in dot.net 4.0 this code is from one of my projects in 1.1 where it works fine but for some reason it is changes for 4.0.
I am working on an application that resides on a development server on our internal network. The application was originally written to use Membership and Roles. We got busy almost a year ago before the app was finished, and now we are trying to get it ready to use internally.
The login page works just fine, but I have lost the ability to controls users and roles. I am running Visual Studio 2010 Professional now on a Windows 7 VM. I can open the application fine but there is no Web Administration Tool available for me to manage users or roles. If I go to Website -> in Visual Studio, there is no option for ASP.NET Configuration in the drop down menu. It simply isn't there.
How can I regain access to manage users and roles for this application? We are using Forms authentication and the database resides on a SQL Server 2005 instance on a separate box from the web server and my local VM.

I'm having a terrible time being able to connect my access database to my website. I'm using 1and1.com as my host. The database resides in my App_Data folder. I checked everything I could think of on the host side. I cannot query from the database through VWD Express nor create a typed dataset .xsd that will allow quering the database.p.s. - I don't need any sophisticated security on the database, just a homegrown sign in I put together that works fine for my site which is mostly xml file data.
How can i get ConnectionString In web.Config when you are in DAL(data access layer)Some said it should me in <appSetting> but i think this is not appropriate to do because web.config have dedicate tag for connection strings.i am creating a 3 tier each layers is a project in 1 solution
Project ://solution
|_View :WebApp // Dependence (BLL,ENTITY ) |_BLL : ClassLib // Dependence (DAL,ENTITY ) |_DAL : ClassLib // Dependence (ENTITY ) |_ENTITY : ClassLib //note this is not a layes just a central data object reference
I have created a website (VB) on my local host. A couple of pages on this website use gridviews or detailsviews with an AccessDataSource connection to a MS Access database. This works perfectly. But now I want to move this website to a hosting provider. And on this hosting provider my website works well but not the pages with a connection to the Access database. I searched the whole internet for a solution but I didn't found it.
Folder structure on the host:
- db > Access databases (name: testdemo.mdb) - logs -wwwroot > website (for example, the gridview is placed on index.aspx).
I think AccessDataSource didn't work, but what kind of code may I use in the index.aspx and web.config? My hosting provider said only, use a direct link to the database and not a relative, for example: E:xxx.comdb estdemo.mdb
I need help with changing this DSN to a DSN less var connection .whenever i use the dsnless connection i get an error since the String connTaftPrjPic is reused in the code. The Objective is to change to a DSN Less connection without affecting the connTaftPrjPic.
I'm using Visual Studio 2008, and my database is SQL Server 2000.
I want to add a connection to the Server Explorer in VS. The Data source is Microsoft SQL Server (SqlClient). After entering in all my information and I click Test Connection, it is successful.
But when I click OK, I get the error:
Unable to add data connection. ExecuteScalar requires an open and available connection. The connection's current state is closed.
I am using a AccessDatasource for getting values from a accessdatabase for a Dropdown list. After i load the page and close it, a .ldb file is created. After wards i am not able to open the database manually. How to close the connection. I have given Network service Modify access [URL] to share permission, still no go.
In IIS 7 you can create database connection strings. I suppose this must be encrypted and best protected by IIS. This is nice, but how do I access it programmatically?
I've got an ASP.NET web project which connect to an SQL Server 2005 DataBase.I think that I'm doing the part of the database connection awfull because everytime I need to do a query (select for example) I'm creating a new connection, opening the connection, creating the command, executing the query, using the results and closing the connection.
Is the rigth way to open a connection in the start of the application and closing at the end?? How can I do that?? I'm retrieving data but what will happen to database server when the application will be used by many people?
