View 1 RepliesI am silverlight 3.0 with .net framework 4.0. I want to create a wen based application using silverlight am using multiple xaml files, to call xaml files i need to make xap file how to convert xaml to xap in clientBin, abd how to use multiple xaml files (Like company.xaml, NewEvent.xaml, mainPage.xaml etc.) in aspx page.
View 1 RepliesI am creating a web application in .net using C#, asp.net and silverlight. I have creating some files in silverlight ie., TopContent.xaml and middleContent.xaml. I want to embed these two xaml pages in defaul.aspx page. I have created table in default.aspx I want to keep these two in table.
View 2 RepliesI have a startup page as Menu.aspx I want to redirect this page to login.xaml so that whenver user type Menu.aspx it should open login.xaml then this .aspx page.
View 1 RepliesI put common code in the app_code directory. I access classes in the code all the time from aspx.cs files by "using" the name space from the C# file in app_code and then referencing the class. Now I want to access a class from an app_code file a aspx file. How do I do this?
View 8 RepliesI have a 'classic' ASP.NET app (.NET 3.5) with a pretty standard runat="server" style form with server-side controls and an 'Execute' asp:button. In the code-behind, the executeButton_click handler processes some of the other controls, runs a report, and drops the result into an asp:label. So the effect of pressing the Execute button is that the entire page reloads with the report inserted into the label.
I need to change this so that when the Execute button is pressed, the report pops up in a new window with a different layout (ie without the controls and form). If I was doing this in an MVC framework I would just change the view template in the 'execute' action, so the analogue for ASP.NET would be change the code in front, ie the .aspx file that gets used, from the code-behind class.
Is this possible? I know the link between the .aspx and the .aspx.cs isn't extremely tight as it is possible to reuse a code-behind class in multiple .aspx files. So can I set the .aspx file to render from the code-behind?
i have to give the user the option to upload his own aspx and aspx.cs files on to the server, adjust the hyperlink to point to a page which would do the following display the aspx and aspx.cs files code onto the page without actually rendering the code the browser should not understand anything, and while reading the files to display them the method be such that nothing is processed on the server regarding the code within the files to prevent from unnecessary problems many user would try to cause.
i have tried many ways of displaying it but it ends up on displaying the actual comments instead of the code. how to achieve the above. note main concentration is on asp.net and c# using vs08, so j script and ready-made tools be avoided if feasible
I am trying to pass a value from one aspx page to another using test2.aspx?Tag=blah.
When I try to pass Request.QueryString["Tag"] to a webusercontrol on test2.aspx it tells me that Request.QueryString["Tag"] is null or empty.
I am doing this in the page load. Should I be doing it somewhere else ?
I have WebServerA running an ASP.Net website. I have ReportServerB running Reporting Services and hosting reports. Users authenticate to WebServerA using Windows Authentication and all sites have identity impersonate=true. Reporting Services on ReportServerB is also set to Widnows Authentication.
Viewing reports directly via the /ReportServer or /Reports URLs works fine. Viewing the reports in the ASPX control works fine when you're on the local machine (on the console of WebServerA or when running the ASPX on a developer workstation). Viewing the reports in the ASPX control from another machine results in a 401 Unauthorized error in the report control.
I assume something needs to be done with respect to SPNs to make this work. I'm not interested in a solution that involves writing code inside the ASPX page to handle authentication.
What SPN is needed? For WebServerA or ReportServerB? For what account (SPNs seem to want an account associated with them)?
Searching for answers on this issue is a bit cloudy due to repeated posts about a loopback registry change, which isn't my issue. My issue is with handling the double hop for authentication. There seem to be a number of other solutions involving allowing anonymous access to Reporting Services, which is not viable for me.
I have a grid and dropdownlist.I want to filter values in a grid by the selection of dropdownlist.How Can i do this? My code is like this
[code]....
How can i pass the selected value of dropdown list to @VisitedVol .
I am looking for someone to provide guidance as to whether the following solution is the prescribed way of going about this. Yesterday I started working on a problem that, at first blush, seemed pretty simple and straightforward. I need to pass a few parameters from an ASPX code-behind, which hosts a Silverlight object tag, to the code-behind of one, or more, of the Silverlight user controls within the hosted Silverlight application. So, after doing some research, this is the basic solution I developed.
I found out that an attribute can be added to the object tag called initParams, a comma delimited list of parameter names and values can be added to this attribute. Like so.
<object data="data:application/x-silverlight-2," type="application/x-silverlight-2" width="100%" height="100%">
<param name="source" value="ClientBin/SampleApplication.xap"/>
<param name="onError" value="onSilverlightError" />
<param name="background" value="white" />
<param name="minRuntimeVersion" value="3.0.40624.0" />
<param name="autoUpgrade" value="true" />
<param name="initParams" value='DealerId=17' />
</object>
This is fine, except that the DealerId parameter is basically hard-coded in the object tag, not real useful. The next thing that I did was replace this object tag with a literal control, and set the text of the literal control within the page's code-behind to the value of a StringBuilder (where I built up the full object tag along with dynamically adding the correct DealerId value). In the following example, the DealerId is hard-coded, but you get the idea.
var sb = new StringBuilder();
sb.Append(@"<object data=""data:application/x-silverlight-2,"" type=""application/x-silverlight-2"" width=""90%"" height=""80%"">");
sb.Append(@"<param name=""source"" value=""ClientBin/Ascend.SilverlightViewer.xap""/>");
sb.Append(@"<param name=""onError"" value=""onSilverlightError"" />");
sb.Append(@"<param name=""background"" value=""white"" />");
sb.Append(@"<param name=""minRuntimeVersion"" value=""3.0.40624.0"" />");
sb.Append(@"<param name=""autoUpgrade"" value=""true"" />");
sb.Append(@"<param name=""initParams"" value='");
sb.Append(@"ServiceUrl=");
sb.AppendFormat("http://{0}{1}", Request.Url.Authority, ResolveUrl("~/ReportService.svc"));
sb.Append(@",DebugMode=Full");
sb.AppendFormat(@",DealerId={0}' />", 40);
sb.Append(@"</object>");
litObjectTag.Text = sb.ToString();
My goal, if this initial design is sane, is to then pull this object tag creation into a server control, which will have a DealerId property, which in turn will be set within the hosts code-behind. At this point, I have the host dynamically adding parameter values to the object tag's initParams attribute, the next step is to get these values and leverage them within the hosted Silverlight application. I found a few articles to help out with this; I'm creating a public dictionary within the App.xaml.cs, and setting it within the Application_Startup event.
public IDictionary<string, string> InitConfigDictionary;
private void Application_Startup(object sender, StartupEventArgs e)
{
InitConfigDictionary = e.InitParams;
this.RootVisual = new MainPage();
}
Now, I can access this public dictionary from the code-behind of any .xaml user control, like this.
App app = (App)Application.Current;
var dealerId = app.InitConfigDictionary["DealerId"];
This design works just fine, I'm just looking for some guidance, since I'm new to Silverlight. Once again, the implementation works, but it seems like a whole lot of work to go through just to pass a dynamic value from the host to the .xaml files. Because I'm new to Silverlight, I'm hoping that someone with more experience can say that either:
a) Patrick, you're insane, why are you going through all this work when clearly in Silverlight you would accomplish this through the use of "xxxxxx".
b) Yeah, Patrick, it's a drag, but this design is basically what you have to do in Silverlight.

View 2 RepliesI have an application that uses DataContracts/DataMembers and Serialization to store information entered in a tab control. There are 8 tabs in the control (therefore 8 aspx pages). The final tab is used to write the information to disk.I am trying to understand: When should serialization be used in a web app? The objects are stored in memory not on disk. Is this another means of passing objects between aspx pages? If so when should serialization be used vs. session objects? How long is the serialized object retained in memory?Can I get a simple example of how to serialize in one page and deserialize the object in another page?I've read many blogs regarding serialization but have yet to find a simple example and none of them explain when serialization should be used vs. session objects?
View 3 RepliesI am new to VB.net programming and working on a school assignment. I have 2 display pages: default.aspx and DisplayTaxReturn.aspx. On default.aspx I have a list view where it uses data source to get the tax payer ID's from the server and I also have a details view where it displays the records associated to the tax payer.
When I click the View button on default.aspx it takes me to DisplayTaxReturn.aspx where it should display the tax payer ID and it's records that were displayed in default.aspx using label text fields.
My question is, how do I pass the values of the selected tax payer ID (datasource1 on default.aspx) to the DisplayTaxReturn.aspx page?
I have this javascript
function myFunction(source) {
window.open(source, "Title", 'width=400, height=400');
}
and in c# code I call it by
HtmlPage.Window.Invoke("myFunction", source);
which opens up a aspx page and goes to its OnLoad function:
protected override void OnLoad(System.EventArgs e)
{
base.OnLoad(e);
how do I pass in parameters to the event args in the aspx page? or is that even possible? and how can I pass these parameters from my c# code to the javascript?
I have a image control in aspx.vb file....I want the image to become invisible in other .vb class file....I have tried using properties but it doesnt seem to work.
View 11 RepliesI want to bind an ObjectDataSource to a property in my asp page and I want to do it in the page's aspx code, not in code-behind. I've already done it in code-behind, as follows:
[Code]....
I'd prefer to get rid of the ugly code-behind and just do this in mark-up. Something like
[Code]....
This gives me a run-time error: Cannot create an object of type 'System.Object' from its string representation 'SelectedBook' for the 'DataSource' property.Is there a way of doing this declaratively and not in code-behind? Further, what if what I want is to actually use a child property of the property in question? For example, if my Book object has a ReaderComments collection, can I databind to it decaratively in the aspx mark-up?
I've a form containing 30+ textboxes. I'd like to save the data entered in the form texboxes in an object(session) and pass them into another page and simply display the values in a tabular form. How can i do that. Also, suggest me the best way to do it.

View 3 RepliesI'm having an aspx page with 2 frames, one is the header and the the other one is content frame which i'm trying to load it dynamically. Everything is fine. Let me explain my scenario
On the header frame i'm having 5 link buttons and when a link button is clicked i'm passing a hardcoded Page URL to the frames containing page and then trying to load that page in the content frame.
Below is my code, Everything as far as i know are in right place, but i cannot see the page in content frame..
Header.aspx.cs

Then checking frameURL querystring in default.aspx page load:

when the querystring is null, the SiteSummary.aspx page is getting loaded in content frame without any issue, but when there is a querystring value the page is not being loaded.

As ASP.NET MVC has a pluggable view engine architecture, and XAML is an object descriptive mark-up that, given the right processor/ parser, can generate an appropriate UI...are there plans/ efforts to create a view engine that can turn XAML into HTML?
Personally, I think this would help to re-enforce the efforts the WPF/ Silverlight people have gone to in providing a means of seperating the view from the model/ business logic between designers and developers (via Visual Studio and Expression Blend)...
Seems like a logical step to me, but not knowing XAML as well as I should, I'm wondering if feasable, or even relevant.
I can't write in english well, but I must try to have an answer for my problem.I have a problem that I have not found a solution, regarding the integration of C # code in the HTML code .aspxI want to do a loop on the
<ajaxToolkit:TabPanel of <ajaxToolkit:TabContainer to have several tabs by a few existing data in a DB table.
Here is a moceau of my code:

This code gave me this error:
Message d'erreur de l'analyseur: 'TabPanel_<%= idMagasin %>' n'est pas un identificateur valide.Translation: Message parser error: 'TabPanel_ <% = idMagasin%>' is not a valid identifier.I removed idmagasin like this:

System.ArgumentException: Une entrée avec la même clé existe déjà .
Translation:
System.ArgumentException: An entry with the same key already existsThe result is that I found a great problem to insert a C # code in the HTML code .aspx unlike others languages like PHP.
We generate xaml in .net4 framework module with the help of an xmlwriter. We want to be sure that the xaml is working properly in the silverlight application we use it in. To test the generated batch of xaml file we want to have a commandline tool that validates these files. How can we use the xamlreader to validate this, or are there any other ideas how to do this? In the current solution we use the XamlReader but if gives to following exception:
'Cannot create unknown type '{clr-namespace:System.Windows.Controls;assembly=System.Windows.Controls}TreeView'.'
I can't find my xaml editor in my VS 2008 SP1(Edit: with Silverlight toolkit version 3 something installed)
So if I want to click the "Add" button, where can I find it?
