I've got a FormView control on a page. Its default mode is insert, since the intent is to have the user enter a record, save it, and then do something else. I've written a stored procedure to insert all of the data into 5 tables. 1 of the columns inserted is default, in SQL Server 2005, as an INT column, which is an IDENTITY column. After it inserts the record into the primary table, using a secondary stored procedure, it retrieves the newly created INT value, and then the primary stored procedure inserts records, using the new INT, into the other 4 tables. This is working fine. The primary stored procedure, which is called by the SqlDataSource on my .aspx page, defines this parameter as an output parameter:
[Code]....
In the FormView's ItemInserted event I'm trying to get the value from the FormViewInsertedEventArgs e parameter like this: [Code]....
However, the result returned is 0. Huh? That cannot be, because the new INT value created is something like 145000. Why am I then seeing a value of 0?
I have a formview that use the formview iteminserted event. The information inserts into the formview fine, but all cells blank out after the insert. How can I make it so I can show all the values I have inserted show up in the formview after the inteminsertedevent?

I am developing a asp.net application and i am using SQL Server 2008. I took a IDENTITY column as Record_ID for detail table where i will have trillions of records per year. So just want to ask whats the largest number record id (identity) column can hold and in ASP.NET which data type i should use to handle record id as i am using this id as a reference to update the table data. I don't want to end up being trapped some day.
UPDATE: Was able to implement using the NamingContainer method that one user suggested and then mysteriously removed his answer. Seems like a safer way to do than my original method:
i am getting the following error during itemdataboundevent of a listview. Description: An error occurred during the compilation of a resource required to service this request. have a listview with a list of comments. I would like to add the avatar of the person that posted the comment to each comment. To accomplish this I need to find the ListViewItem find the UserID get the avatar URL and add it to the ListView. I am sure I can do all of this in the ListView Databound event but how?
I would like to change the listview template on a button click event. for example if your in edittemplate i would like to switch to ItemTemplate.i am trying to do this because im writing my own custom update function for the list view. so after i successfully update the row, it doesn't switch back to the default view.
I have created a WPF ListView that uses GridView as its view. Below is the XAML code for my ListView

I am binding data to the Listview through a DataTable using the following

My data is being displayed properly. My question is that when I click on a particular row of data, how do I generate a click event? For Example, when I click on someones name I want a MessageBox to appread.
I am using a list view inside that in item template i am using a label and a checkbox.I want that whenever user clicks on the check box the value should be updated in a table.i am using a datakeys in listview.on the basis of datakey value should be updated in the table. Query is:string updateQuery = "UPDATE [TABLE] SET [COLUMN] = " + Convert.ToInt32(chk.Checked) + " WHERE PK_ID =" + dataKey + " ";` also i want some help in displaying the result as it is inside the table.means if the value for column in table for a particular pkid is 1 then the checkbox shoul be checked. Here is the code snippet:
Given the following InsertItemTemplate (simplified) I'm not getting anything back in the event object's Values collection.
[code]....
I'm binding the listview to a collection attached to my nHibernate model object (SearchObject.SearchItems). This collection doesn't have insert or update handling like an object datasource would, so I want to handle the insert/update events manually. Is there a way to get these values to come through automatically, or do I have to manually grab each value from its control when I handle this event?
I know the question has already been posted here but we didn't get to an real solution.I have bound my ListView to an SqlDataSource and I want to write some text in a control present in the view created in the LayoutTemplate depending on some properties of the rows returned.Obviously, I'm using the ItemDataBound event to feed my items but this is not the point.
The spontaneous solution was to bind the ListView.DataBound event and access the raw datasource (a DataTable?) and do the required calculations.I inspected the Items property and, despite it was not empty, the related DataItem property was null. The only work-around I can come to is to execute the calculations in the ItemDataBound event and accumulate the result in some private fields. But it's really ugly to see and makes harder to get some of the required values.
I'm presenting a list of products within a ListView. Each product can have associated "Options" (Size, Colour etc), but may have none. For each product that gets added, I need to render a dropdownlist for each of its options. E.g. A "Colour" dropdown might have "Black", "White", "Red" etc. I need to generate these controls dynamically, as they are defined by the data itself.
So far, so good. The dropdowns are rendered, and everything "looks" good. The trouble is, I can't work out how to actually get it to work. .Net is complaining about "EnableEventValidation", and ViewState won't work as I've added the controls late in the page's life cycle. As these controls are dynamic, I don't know how to pick up the selected values, and persist them on a post back! When the user clicks on the "Add to basket" option for the product, I need to determine which options the user has selected, and add them to the basket.
Am I missing something here? Is there an easier way of achieving this? I kind-of feel like I'm in a "chicken and egg" situation here. I can't create the controls until the data is loaded (in the ItemDataBound event), but that too late for ViewState. Is there a generally accepted best approach for achieving this sort of thing in ASP/Net?
When render a databound ListView I want to dynamically set the background colour of each row depending on the results, in my case Red, Orange and Green.

I am using ListView Control to show multiple images and my requirement is when i click on any image then it should go to the correcspoding page. For this purpose i am using onItemCommand event But i am unable to create the corresponding page link so that i can use them for redirection.
protected void listViewParentService_ItemCommand(object sender, ListViewCommandEventArgs e) { int id = Convert.ToInt32(e.CommandArgument); if (e.CommandName == "LnkViewService") { // i dont know how to create } }
i have following corresponding pages on that i have to redirect on the click of image
I have a ListView control that makes use of a DataPager. In each row of the ListView there is a text box where the user will enter some notes relevant to that particular record. Then they use the DataPager to navigate to the second page of records. If they then return back to the first page in the ListView the text they entered is gone.
Question: Is there a way (through use of a paging event or databound event maybe?) to retain the textbox values between paging events ?
I would like the user to be able navigate backward or forward and still see the text heshe has entered.
I stumbled into a problem which is that FindControl will only return a control in the ListView after the listview has been databound. Here is the code which is not working, and I'm getting the "Object reference not set to an instance of an object error" when I try to add the attribute to the control:
I am populating an asp.net listview control from my page_load event. Unfortunately, due to my projects requirements, I have to use a third party control within my listviews ItemTemplate that needs to have database values written to its attributes before my listview control is bound, if this is not the case my control flags a null reference exception error. From some investigation into the listview control, it seems that the only way to do this is through my listviews ItemDataBound event as my thrid party control will hold different value depending on each row.was wondering if it's at all possible to force my listviews ItemDataBound event to fire before I call mylistview.databind();?
What's occurring is that I'm explicitly firing an event so that the parent web page can monitor this and take appropriate actions. Thus when the user clicks on a different ListViewItem it triggers the population of associated data elsewhere on the web page.
This all works fine except for one thing: When I first load the control I'm pre-setting the first ListViewItem. Unfortunately, just setting the ListView's SelectedIndex = 0 doesn't fire the aforementioned event handler.
So I started investigating how to call "listView1_ItemCommand" but couldn't figure out how to instantiate the "e" parameter.
This is a weird issue. I have a List view with 2 Link buttons. "Edit" and "Delete" Iam able to attach an event handler for the first linkbutton(Update). Code in the event handler executed fine. But If I try to attach a event handler for the second link button(Delete) , I get an error.
My Item Template Looks like this.
[Code]....
First Item works absolutely fine. But If I attach the second handler, I get the following error
Am I missing some thing ? Note - There is no error if I try to attach the 1st event handler to the second link button.[ie EditLinkButtonClicked to DeleteLinkButtonClicked ] Issue occurs only when I try to attach DeleteLinkButtonClicked to DeleteLinkButton
