View 4 RepliesI'm using the inbuilt dot net authentication to register users in a simple web site and trying to add some extra information to be collected on registration. It currently asks for Usernname, email, password, confirm password. I'd like to add some extra bits, something like "favourite colour" - just a simple stringIs there an easy way of doing this? Maybe a simple tutorial I could follow?
View 2 RepliesIn my code I am using a popup window to display extra information. I also have the ability to export the information in the main window to Excel.The problem is, after the window pops up -> I see the info -> I close the popup window -> but if I try the export to Excel button, it throws the exception "null object referrence" (if I use a try/catch, the exception doesn't occur - but I don't get any information). In the export function I am doing something like this:
{
//some code .... here
con.close();
session["dss"] = mydataset;
}
In the export button click event:
system.data.dataset dss = (system.data.dataset)session["dss"];
//then some work on this
I think, probably when the popup window opens it ends the execution and that's why when I come back to the main window and try the export button the values for the tables and all goes out of scope.Also, if I refresh the main page after closing the popup window I don't have any issue and can export the data.
I'm using the ASP.NET membership framework in my ASP.NET application. I'd like to save a few extra pieces of information in the cookie so that when I need it, I don't have to go back to the database. I want to save user's email address, full name and time zone.How do I save this information in the cookie?

I am trying to collect extra information about a user when the user account is created using the Create User Wizard. This info will be stored in a new table in the standard ASP membership SQL database.I have read several books and loads of online tutorials on the subject and they all take different approaches and seem to make the process hard work.Is there any reason why I can't add an SQL datasource and a number of textboxes to the wizard step, 'connect' the values from the textboxes to the Insert Parameters and then put an Insert Statement in a suitable event handler to cause the insert?

View 1 RepliesHow can I combine the TextBox and the AutoCompleteExtender, such that they become a single control the way the ComboBox is?
View 3 RepliesI am retrieving list of projects and project IDs using autocompleteextender.I want a kind of functionality that doesn't allow user to input any characters (or)will change the text box color if the input doesn't retrieve any value from database.Though, I have found a solution by calling function through OnClientPopulated. But this function calls back the webservice "GetCompletionList" method.I don't want to recall one method two times..

View 3 RepliesI'm using the AutoCompleteExtender control with a textbox. The control functions the way I want it to but I have one issue with it. When the page first loads I type something in the textbox and I get a list of suggestions from my database. When the list is quite big the vertical scroll bar appears on the right side of the browser window and the textbox is repositioned to the center of the page (I want the textbox to be centrally positioned and I'm using <center> tags). Unfortunately the AutoCompleteExtender list doesn't reposition and is misaligned. The same thing happens when the browser window is resized.
I've played around with CSS and OnClientShown and haven't managed to fix this. I'm currently using IE8.
I am using the autocompleteextender control in a project I am working on for a client, but I would like to be able to match words in the middle of the data I am searching. Controls such as the search textbox on sites like Netflix do this. For example, if I go to Netflix and search for 'wolfman' I get results like:
The Wolfman
The Real Wolfman
House of the Wolfman
With the extender I would only get results beginning with 'wolfman'. If my stored procedure in my webservice is written to do search the text as I want, nothing shows in the extender (I'm guessing because so many top results don't begin with the entered text). Is there a way to get the autocompleteextender to behave more like this?
I'm new to web development so I'm not sure what's the best option for the problem that I'm having.Basically I have a web application that calls a web service for processing some data.This process may take a long time (hours) and I would to know if there is an easy way to send some status information to the client from time to time.Right now, the client makes the request from the browser and it just waits there until it finishes.
How can I send some information from the web service? I would like to send a percentage and some additional text specifying what is being done.

View 1 RepliesFirst I will say I googled (Binged to make Bill happy) for this but could not find anything, perhaps I am not stating what I need correctly;
I have a website that a customer creates orders (for a printing company) and after the order, I would like to email the customer a link to view the status of their order;
I need to send the CustomerID in the link so on the returning page if a CustomerID is detected in the querystring, I "auto login" the client and open the "Dashboard" for the order page for that customer.
Can anyone point me in the right direction as to how to send the link and how to parse the querystring to get the values from the link.
I'm using the ajax auto complete extender and everything works fine. What I need now is a solution how to send additional information (variable) into the method of the autocomplete extender in the webservice. I need this variable to specify the WHERE-clause of my Access-String.
