AJAX :: Make The AutoCompleteExtender More Like The Netflix Search Textbox?
Sep 23, 2010
I am using the autocompleteextender control in a project I am working on for a client, but I would like to be able to match words in the middle of the data I am searching. Controls such as the search textbox on sites like Netflix do this. For example, if I go to Netflix and search for 'wolfman' I get results like:
The Wolfman
The Real Wolfman
House of the Wolfman
With the extender I would only get results beginning with 'wolfman'. If my stored procedure in my webservice is written to do search the text as I want, nothing shows in the extender (I'm guessing because so many top results don't begin with the entered text). Is there a way to get the autocompleteextender to behave more like this?
now have tried to locate and find anything about how to make a
TEXTBOX and A Button "Search"
Problem is that I have made this "bellow" and when I then enter a "value" into texbox2 and hit enter on the button it wont show me the "emnenummer" that I have requested.
im not even sure this is the correct way to do a "search"
i want make the search box for my website same like google have for it's site(ajax search box).i want as soon as i type something in my search box the realted link's of my site should be availble for the user.
I have implemented autocompleteextender on textbox, everything works fine, however please help me with this minor thing. In textbox whenever I enter a value it get stored in memory
e.g I have typed 'hello' & press enter. The next time I press 'h', 'hello' appears below it, & hides the autocompleteextender. Is there a way to switch this function of text box
I am retrieving list of projects and project IDs using autocompleteextender.I want a kind of functionality that doesn't allow user to input any characters (or)will change the text box color if the input doesn't retrieve any value from database.Though, I have found a solution by calling function through OnClientPopulated. But this function calls back the webservice "GetCompletionList" method.I don't want to recall one method two times..

I'm using the AutoCompleteExtender control with a textbox. The control functions the way I want it to but I have one issue with it. When the page first loads I type something in the textbox and I get a list of suggestions from my database. When the list is quite big the vertical scroll bar appears on the right side of the browser window and the textbox is repositioned to the center of the page (I want the textbox to be centrally positioned and I'm using <center> tags). Unfortunately the AutoCompleteExtender list doesn't reposition and is misaligned. The same thing happens when the browser window is resized.
I've played around with CSS and OnClientShown and haven't managed to fix this. I'm currently using IE8.

i'm a quite new in Ajax technologie. The feature of the MaskedEditExtender and its -validator is very helpful. But i have some problem with it.If i try to make a textbox with MasekdEditExtender for time input, so i can give a invalid time e.g. 25:60 and there is no error message of validator. So, how can i avoid inputs like 25:60? As we know the time can take values between 00:00 and 23:59.
I made a usercontrol consisting of an AJAX tab control, a textbox, and a gridview. The gridview is pulling data from a SQL database. When the gridview is outside of the tab control and I begin to enter text into the textbox, quicksearch begins to filter the information in the gridview. When i put the gridview and textbox inside an AJAX tab control quicksearch does not work. How do i need to structure the textbox and the gridview on an ajax update panel to get it to work?
i have some text boxs in a page and in the same page there will be a table 'grid' like for holding the search result. When the user start editing and of the textbox above, the search must start by sending all textboxs values to the server 'ajax', and get back with the results to fill the below grid.
Notes:This grid should support paging, sorting by clicking on headers and it will contains some controls beside the results such as checkboxs for boolean values and links for opening details in another page.
I know many ways to do this some of them are:1- updatepanel around all of these controls and thats it "fast dirty solution"
2- send the search criteria using ajax request using JQuery post function for example and get back the JSON result, and using a template will draw the grid "clean but will take time to finish and will be harder to edit later".
3- ....My question is:What do you think will be the best choice to implement this scenario? because i face this scenario too much, and want to know which implementation will be better regarding performance, optimization, and time to finish.
