Web Forms :: Include Preload Script From ImageReady In Master Page?

Mar 1, 2011

I used Photoshop/ImageReady to create navigation buttons with rollover effects etc and it outputed two sets of code - one is a preload script and the other is the main code that displays the buttons. I want the buttons to go in a Master page, either in the page itself or in a header control .ascx file (could use advice on whether one is better approach than the other). In any case I'm not clear on how to include the javascript preload code, shown below. Should the navigation menu buttons go in the master page, or in a header control, and if so, does it go in the <script runat="server" > </script> area? I'm using VB - is the code below alright for VB?

Strange Request - Stop All Future Processing And Reload Page Instead? (or Change My Design)

Apr 9, 2010

I want to be able to (in code) tell the page to refresh at that point ignoring anything else it was going to do.

Explanation:

I have a property lets call it AllUsers

AllUsers
{
return Database.GetAllUsers();
}

Now I have put it like this because in my code I want to just use this property to browse all the users and not have to check if its null or not up to date. The problem is if my method .GetAllUsers() throws an exception e.g. database is unavailable. If this happens I want to display a message to the user and reload the page to its initial state.

e.g. something like this

AllUsers

{
try
{
return Database.GetAllUsers();
}
catch(Exception e)
{
AbortAllCodeAndReloadAndDisplayMessage(e.Message);
}
}

Now I can reload the page using Response.AppendHeader("Refresh", "0;URL=ThisPage.aspx");

but how can I abort all code? because if I use this where I have placed my method the code will run and then reload on the next page load.

Should I change by property design? I wanted to have a property which would always be valid and up to date so any code using it wouldn't have to worrie

Architecture :: Cache The Full List Of Objects In Http Cache On The Service Tier And Page In Memory?

Feb 25, 2011

We have a wfc layer that wraps the business classes and database access and use a client that lives on the database layer. Amongst our group we are attempting to form standards. Some want to have the client call the web method and pass the page they are requesting and the page size. Pass that to the database and then page in SQL Server use RowNum.Some want to cache the full list of objects in http cache on the service tier and page in memory. They concern here is memory use on the server.

Which would be best for a medium number of users with potentially large number of records to manage (say 30K) Is it better to cache them all in memory and work from there or page at the database as the application scales?

Iis - Is There A Way To Preempt File Checking And Intercept The Requests

Mar 25, 2010

I have installed an HttpModule into my web app that will handle all requests with a given file extension.

I want ASP.NET to handle all requests with the extension, regardless of whether there is an underlying file on disk. So, when I added the extension to the 'Application Extension Mappings', I unchecked the 'Verify that file exists' checkbox.

However, this just transfers the file check to ASP.NET rather IIS, so I just get a different error page when requesting URLs with the file extension.

Is there a way to preempt this ASP.NET file checking and intercept the requests?

Web Forms :: Better To Use - Load() Or PreLoad() Events ?

Aug 19, 2010

Since PostBack data and viewstate data are available and initialized to their respective controls at the time of page PreLoad() event ,i want to know then which place is better to use - either PreLoad() or Load() event for dynamically checking my controls status ?For the last one year i was blindly using Page's Load() event .Why i was using Load() event ? I think the same logical part can be done in PreLoad() , since data are available at that time .But what is the main difference when i use my logic Here(PreLoad event) or there (Load event) ?

MVC :: Handling Unauthorized Page User Requests By Displaying A NoAccess Page?

Apr 12, 2010

I have implemented a custom ErrorController with NoAccess Action returning the View "~/Error/NoAccess" (not inside the Shared folder).

I have also modified the web.config file and add a custom error "<error statusCode="403" redirect="~/Error/NoAccess" />" node.

Each time i enter to an anauthorized page, i get redirected to the logon page (even though i am already logged on). I would to modify the default asp.net mvc authorization functionality and each time a user tries to enter a page that is not authorized to get an "NoAccess" page instead of redirecting to the login page.

Submit A Form With A Large File Upload And Send Ajax Requests?

Mar 8, 2011

This works in other browsers but not in chrome. I am trying to allow users to upload large files and have an ajax call to update them on the progress of the file upload.

So a unique ID is generated on the client side and added to the action of the form before sending. Then the form is submitted (form only contains a file upload input) and an ajax call is made to get the progress of the upload. The ajax call goes to another page and uses the ID to lookup the upload.

I am using JQuery 1.5.1. Debugging this and putting something on the error function give me nothing other than "error". Not very helpful. I used Chrome's debugger and it just says failed to load resource xxxx.aspx. xxx.aspx is the URL i needed. Turns out that there seems to be some sort of conflict between the form and the ajax call.

Page Requests Itself (twice) As An Image?

Jul 26, 2010

When I open my page in Chrome and use the Resource Tracker, at the bottom of the list of requests, there are two GET requests to the aspx file. They take about 2 seconds each. Each request also causes a warning:

Resource interpreted as image but transferred with MIME type text/html.

why a page may be requesting itself, and why it is trying to use it as an image?

Firing Off Some Url Requests (GET) After Page Load

Jan 14, 2011

After a user logs off from our web-site we need to fire off some HTTP requests to 2-3 other external urls (we don't need a response from these btw).

The url request must be performed on the client as the requests will cause a log-off to be performed on these external sites on the users current session.

The only way I thought that this could be achieved would be to render some invisible iframes and set the url to each of them so that when the page loads the requests will be executed.

Is there another way this could be achieved? The above solution seems a bit hacky.

Route All Page Requests To One Class In C#?

Mar 30, 2011

I'm trying to make an application that can host multiple ecommerce front ends, so I need to figure out how to route all requests to one class which then parses templates and handles all output.

So my question is then how do I route all requests to one class?

In PHP I would use mod_rewrite and have all requests go to index.php and add "main = new MainClass();", but I have no idea on how to achieve this with ASP.NET

The MVC framework isn't what I'm looking for, since I will host several domains with one system.
