The method has a return type of collection, i am calling the method from the aspx page in order to populate a drop down -> ddlDropDown. I am binding he DataTextField of the ddlDropDown with the BusinessEntity.Name and the DataValueField with BusinessEntity.Id, the business entity contains another id which is BusinessEntity.ProductId. I need to use the ProductId of the value selected in the drop down list in the code behind.
One possible way could be to call the method in the page_Load on the code behind and save the collection in a hidden variable and when required do a loop through in the hidden variable and retrieve the selected value Product Id.

Question. Say for example if i have a business entity -> Customer, which has customerId, customerName and customerType. I have created an asp:Hidden Variable hdnCustomer to runat="server"
If i wanted to serialize the value of the customer business entity (in the code behind) to the hdnCustomer then how would i do that?
// Psudo code Collection customerList = new Collection(); customerList = BusinessAccess.GetCustomerList(); hdnCustomer = serialize and assign the value of 'customerList' to hdnCustomer; ... ... // Later on a select index change of one of the drop down lists
inside the event handler for the drop down list
{ Collection customerList = new Collection(); customerList = deserialize the value from hdnCustomer int a = Convert.ToInt32(ddlDropDown.SelectedValue); foreach(a in customerList) { // Do something } }
I'm having a trouble figuring out how I am going to map my business objects. I found this little mapper using reflection with a little modification :http://www.simple-talk.com/dotnet/.net-framework/a-defense-of-reflection-in-.net/Above works fine and fill out my Business objects properly. But what if I have relationship on the Business objects class like for example :
[Code]....
then a User Class will have a relationship with Roles like :
[Code]....
Assuming there are columns on the database that have the RoleID, RoleName, UserID, UserName by Joining the 2 tables. The problem here is that the Mapper doesn't map the Roles properly since the Mapper will expect a Column Name "Role". I tried also inheriting the roles instead of instantiating it but it doesn't work either.I'm using a 3-tier Architecture (including a sublayer "Business Objects") and List<T> combo.
I have an ASP.NET application with existing business classes and a database schema. (which I would like to keep) Currently I am using ADO.NET for the DAL, but I would like to switch to some advanced technology there for easier data retrieval.
Is EF applicable to my situation? Can I use it without splitting up my business classes and auto code generation? Can LINQ to SQL solve my problem better?
All I want to do is map my existing classes to the existing tables and dont have to handle details of the data retrieval myself.
I'm currently writing an N-Tier architected ASP.NET system with a relatively normalised SQL database backend, but I'm struggling to get my head around how lookup values should be represented in my business objects (I don't get the priviledge of using EF or ORMs). My table (as an example) could be structured like this:
CoreDataTable:
ID | Name | Favourite_Colour ---|-------|----------------- 01 | Peter | 01 02 | John | 03 03 | Mary | 05
ColoursLookup:
ID | Colour | is_active ---|--------|---------- 01 | Red | 1 02 | Green | 1 03 | Blue | 1 04 | Pink | 1 05 | Black | 1
Now initially, I had created my business object to look like this:
[code]....
I'm 100% convinced that I'm (a) overthinking this, and (b) making it more complicated than it needs to be. So, is there a preferred way of doing this? Or is there an option that I've overlooked?
I have to pass the session value to a business logic layer, I can pass it to the function from presentation layer but how can I access it directly in my business logic layer ? Also is it a good approach to pass it directly to business logic layer like
i have the following code where I want to retreive the data form a table using entity framework and put it to a list of the same type:
List<ItemDetail> iDets = new List<ItemDetail>();
iDets = (List<ItemDetail>) from l in db.ItemDetails where l.ItemID == varItemID select l;
when I run the page, it throws the following error:
Unable to cast object of type 'System.Data.Objects.ObjectQuery`1[LIBRIModel.ItemDetail]' to type 'System.Collections.Generic.List`1[LIBRIModel.ItemDetail]'.
why i'm having this problem? or am I missing something here if i'm not wrong it worked once, but now it throws this error
I am new to this .NET what is the difference between N-Tier and 3- Tier Architecture. If they are same. How to pass the values from presentation layer to business logic layer.
For Example
I have 10 controls in presentation layer. I passing values to these controls. How the architecture works.
I have a sql server table with a date column that has a default value of GetDate()
this default does not seem to get passed to the EF and so i was wondering what the most elegant way was to code this default value within my asp.net application? I dont want to manually alter the EF Model as i may want to re-import it and dont want to lose these changes.
I am playing about just now trying to teach myself a little bit about the entity framework. I have a Gridview data bound to a Entity Date Source using the Entity Framework. If I select certain items in that list I then wish to redirect another page and populate another gridview with just the items selected (but with more detail, different includes/navigation properties)
This is probably the most simple thing but I have spent 2 hours banging my head on the wall trying to get this to work. Essentially I have a continue button which when clicked should identify all the UIDs (a column in the gridview) of the rows and allow me to subset to just these rows and pass them to another page to be rebound to another datagrid
I have a simple web app built in asp.net webforms c#where and how would be the best way to save info from the code behind?(and also retrieve that info)eg all i want to save is a dateTime. and a flag set to True or False.and be able to access them in the code behind.Im not using a db for this web app.Edit: and can't really use session variables for this purpose.
how to retrieve a value from a typed dataset. I am trying to retrieve a value from a row within a row return from a tabale adapter method. Example:
Dim transAPI As New PN_TransactionBLL() Dim trans As PN.RetrieveGEmailDataTable = transAPI.getGEmail(itemtId)
The tabeadapter method retrieves 1 row of data and I would like to pull the values retrived such as "trans.rowproperty"(if thats the correct syntax) where "rowproperty" would contain the actual value returned.
I am creating an ASP.NET application that allows the user to add form elements to a page within a form. When the page is posted (via the submit button) I need to loop through ALL the posted values in the form and get the values.
I can't check for specific values as I don't know how many there will be or what they will be called.
Could someone point me in the right direction of getting ALL posted values so I can loop through them?
p.s I was looking in Request.Form but couldn't see anything obvious to use.
So, have a search form where users can enter one or more keywords, these keywords are then held in a List<string> called keywords. Now using Entity Framework have an Organisation entity with a Name field. What I want to do is select those organisations whose name contains all the keywords. I don't care if they are in the right order or not but it just contain all the keywords. Also organsiations is a big table in the database so I don't want to materialise all the organsiation objects on the server and then loop through them. So what I'm looking for (excuse my LINQ naivety here) is equivalent to the non-existent LINQ statement:
[Code]....
I'm sure this must have already been answered but just can't find it.
I am building an appplication in Flex which shows and lets edit values from a SQL Server DB. To start out, I made a Web Service which verifies the username and password. I hava a simpe table with two columns: username and password I managed to send values to the web service but I am stuck with the logic to verify that the username is the same as in the DB.
I am having a form in a view page that looks as below:
[Code]...
Now when the form is posted, I am trying to retrieve the values submitted in the controller as below:
[Code]...
The string value shows null when I submit the form by checking some checkboxes. Is this the way to retrieve the values or am I doing something wrong? And I cannot use html control because all other controls on the form are server controls and I am not sure if I can only make this control a html control. And I am not sure how can I bind the values to it?
I have two tables related to a number (ie, persons with Firefox), I should retrieve data from a View where he imposed the following code:
[Code]....
When I go to send the following to view controller via Post did not recover the data, the controller parameter dell'actin as I pass him the Person object p.Qualcuno potrebe me explain why I get the results and those of the Person objectcomponents, I do not return?
now that i'am able to retrieve List values in my session, how can i separately get the values of each list using foreach or for statement? what i want to happen is to programmatically split the values of the strings depending on how many is in the list.
I have the following code which creates a treeview of a folder and files on my PC. The front-end code is the following:
[Code]....
I have following in the code-behind file:
[Code]....
The result is a web page that allows me to navigate down to individual music files within various folders. Beside each music file is a checkbox. What I want to do is select several files and then click a button that will move the selected files from their existing location to another location. I'm running into two problems. One, whenever I add any control that performs a postback, the treeview doesn't repopulate. Two, I don't know how to retreive the values of the checked checkboxes.
