is it possible to retrieve by using connection.getschema() the description item from a sql server table column, just like it's possible to retrieve the column name, data type, is nullable, column default value, etc? if so, how?

i have the following two questions:-
1. let say i have a table for ITEMS including (item id,item description id (FK to the ITEM Description tabe), item price,etc) and have ITEM Description look up table having (item descriptionid,item description),.
so what is better to use the ITEM DESCRIPTION look up table and store the item description id in the items table
or
to directly store the item description "Not the id" in the item table.
2. I am working on an MVC web application using LINQ, now if i want to modify the SQL server tables which i have created for example modify some of the foreign key properties will the effect be directly reflected on any new inserted or deleted records or i have to create a new LINQ to SQL class?

I want to assign employees to teams via a gridview control with a templated checkbox.
I have a dropdownlist control to select the TeamID.
I am having problems with the select statement.
The gridview needs to select employees that are not assigned to any teams as well as assigned to other teams. An employee can be assigned to many teams.
What I have been trying is:

So, I have this repository where I put my functions for data accessing, and now I need to write a function to get all the applicants that have applied for this particular advertisement, and their values too. Now, the values are stored in a separate M:N table, where every row consists of the applicantID,advertisementID and value. I just wanna append the value to every applicant that I show, so that it would look like a Ranking List.
However, I do not seem to know how to select just the name column from the Applicant table, and just the Value column from the ApplicantValue table.
And there's this Iqueryable interface that further confuses me...

I would like to use a DropDownList to allow the user to specify a value, that will be used in an SQL query to retrieve specific data from the table. I.e. user can select a country from the list, and the table will display items only from that country. I cannot figure out how to retrieve the selected item from the DropDownList, within my data bind function for my table, within my controller class.

I run a web site with VB.Net and Sql Server, at a web host (so I use one instance of their Sql Server db). I now get this nasty message when trying to access the web site: Column 'kryptotext' does not belong to table tabellen. I have seen this before (but with other columns mentioned), and when I spoke to the tech guys they said that the server gives up after five (or so) invalid requests. The old problems I had were due to the fact that I had used Application variables - at least the problems appeared when I added the variable and diappeared when I deleted them.
This time, I have done very little. I ran a new check when some items of a gridview were databound, and if a condition was ok, then a mail should be sent and an update take place in the db. For now, this will not be true, so the new code doesn't fire, and I have now reverted to the old code anyway. I got htis message this morning, and then it has worked the entire day without me changing the code at all, and now it stopped working again, so to me it seems as if it's either not my code's fault, or I somehow flood the db server with requests (but the web site is new so there are really no users yet). One more thing I have added: I imported the Net.Mail namespace to the baseclass I'm using for the aspx pages, but I can't believe that has anything to do with this.
I asked the tech guys again, and the server has been working the whole day. Here's the web site: [URL] I am able to connect to the admin part of the web site, so it's just the public web site itself that doesn't run. What should I do? Edit: Now, 30 minutes later, it works again. I haven't done anything, in fact I had dinner now.
I have a site where users can save images together with a couple of info fields about the image. The images are stored as binary data in the same table as the rest of the image info. So far pretty standard.
Now, the users should be able to upload a document, describing the image in more detail, along with the rest of the image and its' info. Size ~2MB per document.
My question is: Should I store this document (binary data) in the same table as the rest of the images or should I create a new table holding only the documents. There would of course be an id reference in the image table to the document in the document table.
I have a search function joining a couple of tables, including the image table, when searching for images. I need to know if there's a difference in efficiency between these two solutions. I always fetch the document data separately but if I don't win anything in having the documents in a separate table I'll just put it with the rest of the image info.
I'm asking this since I don't really know how SQL Server handle tables when joing and searching in them.
I have about 10´000 users with a maximum of 10 images per user. (ASP.NET - SQL Server) (I'm not asking if I should store documents in the database, but how ;)

Searching for items from a specific user I would join the userTable and the imageTable and select title where image id equals user id.
So, will there be any difference in the performance if the document is in the imageTable or in an own table?
