Jun 25, 2010I am able to store the current time of day in a column defined as time with the C# code as:notestable.NoteTime = DateTime.Now.TimeOfDay;The hour, minutes, seconds, and even millionth of a second is stored. But now, I need to retrieve the time and convert it into a string. I tried to use DateTime statements to accomplish this as with:

String FirstT = nt.Hour.ToString() + ":" + nt.Minute.ToString().PadLeft(2, '0');
Regarding the 'nt' variable, I got an error message that said: Cannot implicitly convert type 'System.TimeSpan?' to 'System.DateTime'.Regarding the 'Hour' designation, I changed the definition of 'nt' to 'var' and got an error message that said: System.Nullible<System.TimeSpan>' does not contain a definition for 'Hour' and no extension method could be found.So, how do I access the time from a table and convert it into a string for display in a TextBox?

Sep 7, 2010Here's a short explanation of my asp.net project.
1) the default page loads, it will read the Windows Login of the user opening the page.
2) I'll check if this login exists in a table stored on the webserver.
In this Access Database, there's a 2nd linked table, pointing to another access table on a network location. Now, I want to read data from this linked table. However, at this moment I receive an error:
"The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file '\<ip><shared-folder>statistics.mdb'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data".
Some extra info:
- The network folder has read and write permissions for everyone
- the user and group permissions on both access files are set to read/modify/administer for the Admin user (on the tables I want to read from)
- IIS authentication on the server is set to "Windows Authentication" (this is needed so I can read the Windows Login from the user). All other authentication modes are disables (like anonymous, ...)
- When the error occurs, no other program or process has access to the statistics.mdb (so, it can't be locked by someone else)
- the web.config files access connection string looks like:
<add name="AccessConnectionString" connectionString="Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=\<IP><shared-folder>statistics.mdb;User Id=admin; Password=;" />
Like I said before, in this statistics.mdb file, there are 2 tables. One normal table, and another linked table (pointing to a network location)
Searching for solutions, I discovered the following:
- if I don't use linked tables, everything works fine (however, I have to use this linked table)
- even if I connect directly to the table in the network I receive the error. So, I'm pretty sure I don't have sufficient rights to read from this table.
I read that not the Admin user is opening the file, but actually a user called ASP.NET. This user doesn't have the correct rights to do this. However, I'm not sure if this is true.

Feb 2, 2011I am quite new to LINQ, and I am stuck with this probably basic problem, but haven't been able to find a solution, so I thought I could ask here.
So, I have this repository where I put my functions for data accessing, and now I need to write a function to get all the applicants that have applied for this particular advertisement, and their values too. Now, the values are stored in a separate M:N table, where every row consists of the applicantID,advertisementID and value. I just wanna append the value to every applicant that I show, so that it would look like a Ranking List.
However, I do not seem to know how to select just the name column from the Applicant table, and just the Value column from the ApplicantValue table.
And there's this Iqueryable interface that further confuses me...

Now, if I try to add to the definition of the type two columns, it says that it only messes with types, i.e. one type should be passed. So I figured I would do a ViewModel and then pass it, like this

SQL Server :: Sql Server Db Stops Working - Column "kryptotext" Doesn't Belong To Table Tabellen
Mar 17, 2011I run a web site with VB.Net and Sql Server, at a web host (so I use one instance of their Sql Server db). I now get this nasty message when trying to access the web site: Column 'kryptotext' does not belong to table tabellen. I have seen this before (but with other columns mentioned), and when I spoke to the tech guys they said that the server gives up after five (or so) invalid requests. The old problems I had were due to the fact that I had used Application variables - at least the problems appeared when I added the variable and diappeared when I deleted them.
This time, I have done very little. I ran a new check when some items of a gridview were databound, and if a condition was ok, then a mail should be sent and an update take place in the db. For now, this will not be true, so the new code doesn't fire, and I have now reverted to the old code anyway. I got htis message this morning, and then it has worked the entire day without me changing the code at all, and now it stopped working again, so to me it seems as if it's either not my code's fault, or I somehow flood the db server with requests (but the web site is new so there are really no users yet). One more thing I have added: I imported the Net.Mail namespace to the baseclass I'm using for the aspx pages, but I can't believe that has anything to do with this.
I asked the tech guys again, and the server has been working the whole day. Here's the web site: [URL] I am able to connect to the admin part of the web site, so it's just the public web site itself that doesn't run. What should I do? Edit: Now, 30 minutes later, it works again. I haven't done anything, in fact I had dinner now.

Jul 9, 2010I added a DateTime column to a table in my database through the Server Explorer. Because the team lead for this project wasn't savvy on nullable types, one of the requirements was that there be no null values in the database. This requires me to program all sorts of useless code into the system, but that's another story. My problem arises when assigning a default value to this column. I typed the following into the cell for the "Default Value or Binding":
1/1/1753 12:00:00 AM
When I went to inspect the content of the table, I found that all of the dates had been populated with:
1/1/1900 12:00:00 AM
