I have a progress bar (which is a user control). When user, click a button, this progressbar will get displayed. The issue is ...even if the progressbar is visible, I am able to set focus to other controls in base page. I need to blur the base page...and set focus to user control.

I don't think I understand fully how ASP.NET does inheritance of controls.I have a user control, ucBase, which has an asp.net label in the ascx file. Code behind references the label and it works fine during run time if the control is not a parent for another user parent.
If I have another user control, ucChild, inheriting from ucBase, the label in ucBase's code is always null. ucChild has no controls in its ascx fileThe server controls (like the label) needs to be declared in the ascx file and not created programmatically.What needs to be done for ucBase to see its own controls when it's a parent user control?

I have a user control(error control) in a master page. by default the user control is hidden(visible false)
on click of a submit button i am showing the error control.Now on post back I want to bring focus to this control.I am writing the java script in register Startup script as following:

on postback page goes up shows this control and then comes back to its previous scroll position.
I have a user control (uc1) which inherits from uc2. uc2 has a user control (uc3) declared in the markup. I am trying to access uc3 from uc1 but I get NullReferenceException. I thought due to inheritance uc3 would instantiate but looks like I am missing a step.
Clarification:
How does the child user control inherit the markup from the base class? The server controls in the base user control are null in the code behind of the base user control. Why?
I have an asp.net project, and I load a base aspx page to display to the user. Then I ajax in the results of an ascx component and inject it via innerHTML in javascript. I have noticed that the ascx component loads slowly on the first page load, but instantly thereafter. This is really cool, but I do not understand how this can be cached, as the contents are generated by making several db calls. Does the server send some kind of hash to compare the contents to, to see if it changed on the server or not? Is this a browser thing or an asp.net thing?
View 3 Repliesi have a base user control (WC1) which inherits from WebUserControl and a child user control (WC2) which inherits from WC1. I added a textBox and a label to WC1 in vs design view not code behind. But all the server controls that i put in WC1 are null and give null pointer exception.I tried to access textBox and label in different events but the all of them are null.
Steps to reproduce the error:
create a web user control called WC1 by add a new item in VS added a textBox and label server control to WC1 in design view of VS and put code behind: var value = txetBox.Text; created another web user control called WC2 by add a new item in VS and change its base class to WC1 in its code behind create a web page by adding a new item in vs and drag WC2 to the design view of the page run the page then you will see the exception for the codebehind in WC1

I've searched high and low over the last several days to find a solution but, for whatever reason, have been unable to do so.
I have a page that has user controls loaded dynamically to allow a user to enter data.The number and type of user controls loaded to the page is determined at run time based on a database query.It is possible than many controls of the same type can be loaded. Each user control has its own update panel. Within the update panel of each control is a regular asp panel. Inside of the regular panel there are at least 2 server controls (any other controls that may exist in the user control are not affected by this issue) - a text box and a button.The defaultbutton property of the regular panel is set to the ID of the button within the user control. The desired behavior is to allow the user to enter data into the textbox on one user control hit enter to save the data on that user control the application will set focus to the textbox of the next user control on the page after the data from the "current" user control has been saved. Other considerations;
The application uses master pages. We make extensive use of ajax and the ajaxtoolkit in the application. I am using Visual Studio 2010 and .Net 4 The issue - when first entering the page, one can enter data into the first textbox and press the enter key. Data from "current" user control is correctly saved and focus is correctly moved to the next user control on the page.
Data can be entered into the textbox of "new" user control and when the enter key is pressed, the data is correctly save. The focus appears to move correctly to the next user control on the page.Data cannot be entered into the textbox of the control. Pressing the enter key will not save the data (because none was entered) but the focus will move to the textbox of the next user control on the page.

View 17 RepliesI try to postback my page to the server using ctrl+Enter sequence.Without UpdatePanel it works well, but it works only two times inside updatepanel and then my control loses the focus. So I have some questions:
1. Why my control loses the focus if it is located inside updatepanel?
2. What is the best way to use ctrl+Enter sequence to post the page to the server?

View 8 RepliesI have a textbox in one grid-view column where upon entering a particular value and losing focus of the textbox, should post to the server to get the text validated through a server-side method. If the entry is valid, a result set to fill rest of row cells would be returned, else the bgcolor of the textbox needs to be changed to Red.
I tried posting back through the obvious way, i.e. making the textbox's autopostback as true and wiring up a server-side OnTextChanged event handler to validate the entered value.
It is working with this setup, but is also affecting the remaining page controls behaviour. For example, if I click a button in some other grid after entering some text in the textbox, the OnTextChanged handler gets called thus preventing the button's click event, which I also wish to call to execute its functionality.
In my application i use iframe (to be more specific; Greybox tool). Sometimes i had an unkown error when i open page in iframe. Then i applied this fix : [URL] and that unknown error disseppeared. But i have another problem now:( I am using following script to focus to the first textbox whenever my input pages are opened in iframe.

After i applied previous fix, i get this error when i load page in iframe for the first time :
Can't move focus to the control because it is invisible, not enabled, or of type that does not accept focus.
Here, txt_PID doesnt contain any ajaxtoolkit things. (also Enabled= true and Visible=true etc.) . Last thing, my current test page contains just 3 controls: txt_PID just plain Asp.TextBox ajaxHTMLEditor another textboxt with MaskedEditExtender. If i remove HTMLEditor from page; i dont get that error( Can't move focus...) and also i dont get first error which i applied that fix in toolkit.
