I have a SQL Table with 2 columns, a type and a value, how can I set something up where the property is the type and the value can be set by the user? Do I basically just go through every item in the table (only 20 rows) and make a property for each one such as:

Is this the right way to do it? is there a better way? what about performance?
I have a table setup in the database for users who are basically going to create a classified listing. How can I setup a diagram that would easily create a table relationship with the Users table, so that it automatically inserts the users username when they submit a new ad? If so, how? I've tried adding a UserName row to my table and creating a relationship with the Users table "UserName" row, but it wasn't accepting the relationship when I tried to save the diagram...apparently because the UserName row in the Users table isn't a primary key?
Also, one this is setup, what's the best way to provide the user a way to see a list of their ads and have the ability to edit them?
That can be setup to display certain number of records per page and allow paging.
I have tried the repeater, but having issues with paging since its linked to a SQLDatasource.
I have done a search on "Paging Repeater" and all examples are setup with XML and other datasources and im not able to figure out how to modify that to work with my SQLDatasource.
I'm having trouble setting up a custom NEW User Screen. Here is my situation, I have a Request for Access Screen that uses the CreateNewUser Wizard Control. I want to leave the Question and Answer for this, however I also want a custom NEW User Setup which I build myself to allow the system administrators to setup users, but for this setup I don't want the administrators to have to pick the question and answer for the NEW user, so I would like to bypass this for this setup. However, my Membership.CreateUser keeps asking for it. How can I accomplish this? I've included a copy of my current web.config file. You will notice a AspNetAdminMemberhip which I use to allow the System Administrators to reset passwords.

When I try to edit the Identity Specification from No to Yes there isn't a way to do so. No drop-down arrow or any way to edit the text. How can I change it so that I can actually change the value to 'Yes'?

View 6 RepliesI have a web setup package project alongside an old .asmx web service. When I build it I only get 'MyService.msi' and not the 'Setup.exe' in the 'Release' folder after build. Normally the .msi suffices for installation, but on Windows Server 2008 R2 I am getting denied from installing the .msi pacakge. I can only install .exe packages after right clicking and stating "Install as Administrator".
The server admin is still new to 2008 R2 and not sure why I can't install an .msi because I am an admin, so for now if I knew how to get that web setup package to generate the Setup.exe file as well I see my other VS.NET setup packages create.
I have a new VS2010 .NET 4.0 Web project and the Properties Folder has gone wierd on me. It has lost teh "Open" under the right click. There is no way to get a Settings file created now.
I am unable to get to the Settings grid and no Settings file is created. I tried the help and it has the normal trip of select Properties, Open (right click), Settings Tab, etc. etc.
I am relatively new to ASP.NET. I am just wondering if there is way to read values from properties file (similar to rading a properties file from JSP or java).

my main intention is that, the exsisting table of sql server database(.dbo) with 1000's of records, that should be import to a new access database table(.mdb).for example if we want to had a new table in db2, of exsisting table in db1 with some conditions by using "select * into New_Tabel from (select * from Exsisting_Table where <Condition>) as objectName". Here the new table is created and records inserted in one execution in db2. I'm venturing out into the world of Linq and WCF web services and I can't seem to make the magic happen. I have a VERY basic WCF web service going and I can get my old SqlConnection calls to work and return a DataSet. But I can't/don't know how to get the Linq to SQL queries to work. I'm guessing it might be a permissions problem since I need to connect to the SQL Database with a specific set of credentials but I don't know how I can test if that is the issue. I've tried using both of these connection strings and neither seem to give me a different result.

I have a database containing fields 'Course Name' and corresponding 'Days','Hours'. My problem is as the user enters a course name in entry field it gives suggestions for auto completion instantly as the letters are typed.

I'd like to implement a ADO.NET/WCF DataService and I am wondering what's the best way to setup a project in VS2008 SP1 for this purpose.
Currently I have an ASP.NET web application project (not of "WebSite" project type). The data access layer is an Entity model (EF version 1) with SQL Server database. I have the Entity Model in a separate DLL project and the web application project references to this assembly for all data accesses.
The ADO.NET/WCF DataService needs to communicate with the Entity model/database as well. It has to be hosted on the same web server (IIS 7.5) together with the web application.
Since the DataService is not directly related to that specific web application (though it will provide and modify data from/in the same database the web application uses as well) my basic idea was to separate the DataService in its own new project (which also references the Entity Model DLL).
Now I have seen that there is no project type "ADO.NET/WCF DataService" in VS2008 SP1. It seems only possible to add a DataService as an element to other existing projects, for instance Web Application projects.
Why isn't there a separate DataService project type? Does this mean now that I have to add the DataService as an element to my Web Application project? Or shall I create a new Web Application project and add a DataService to it? (I could delete the pregenerated default.aspx since I do not need any web pages in this project.)
I am making a web setup of web application. When i install it on client's machine. It asks me for the IIS to be installed. Now please tell me that is there any way to add IIS in prerequisites of setup.

View 2 RepliesI am working on VS 2008 and 3.5 framework. I had three windows services. I placed all three in a single solution, created installer individually for each of them. Then created a setup project. When I build it says build failed . But I checked on the errorlist, (i enabled the diagnostics in options menu), but there was no error at all. I went ahead and installed. There were no issues, But there was no service showed up in the services.msc.
I installed each service individually , using installutil command, it showed up. But my requirement is to bundle these services and deploy to the client. The client should install it.
