View 1 RepliesI want to load test an ASP.NET web service. I have Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition and Visual Studio 2010. Can either one of these products facilitate load testing? I can't seem to find anything and all Google returns is higher end editions of Visual Studio.If not, what are some of the alternatives.
View 3 Replieswe want all these requests to point back to www.site.com and not have to physically create the files and directories for every type of site... so if I just create a virtual directory (www.site.com/india) and point it to www.site.com... then I figure I can look at the URL and set some parameters/text/images accordingly to fill out the template
View 4 RepliesI made an aspx site with .net 4.0 framework through visual studio and it worked perfectly in the development environment but when I upload it to the server and try to run it I get this error: Server Error in '/' Application. Runtime Error Does anyone have an idea on how to fix this?
View 4 RepliesWe have a couple of ASP.NET applications running here at work and our users get the test site confused with the production site. What is the best way to help the users know they are at the test site. Is there a best practice for how this can be accomplished? Maybe have a custom control or something on the screen display "TEST SITE"?
View 1 RepliesI'm developing an asp.net web site to work on mobile devices. Is going ok and works fine with android and iphone. I've no got around to testing it with blackberry in my balcberry curve. When i first tried everything looked good b ut then i noticed that some od the autopost back on dropdowns etc did not work. Some research time later i turn out out that by default that blackberries do not support this and that I need a Blackberr.browser file to allow that type of functionality to work. I following this link...http://www.codeproject.com/KB/aspnet/BlackberryASPNET.aspxAfter doing this my blakberry will not load the site at all, i just get connection timeouts. So i tried removing the blackberry.browser file, read loading the assembley in an attempt to get back to where is was, but still the site will not connect. I've refreshed iis, recycled app pools and even rebooted. I have a QA site on another box that the blackberry will connect to, but my development machine it does not like anymore

View 1 RepliesI need a book to recommend strategies for load-testing an ASP.NET application with SQL Server backend.Some info that may be useful:how to write a load test planwhat perfmon counters to use andtypical threshold valuesfinding bottleneck various load testing tools
View 2 RepliesI am trying to load test a web application, but I am having a hard time finding good tools that are affordable. I cam across Web Performance Load Testing Tool which is pretty cool, but limits you to 10 users and after that it costs thousands. any good techniques for load testing a web application?
View 5 RepliesWhat are some good automated tools for load testing (stress testing) web applications, that do not use record and replay of HTTP network packets?I am aware that there are numerous load testing tools on the market that record and replay HTTP network packets. But these are unsuitable for my purpose, because of this:he HTTP packet format changes very often in our application (e.g. whenwe optimize an AJAX call). We do not want to adapt all test scripts just becausethere is a slight change in HTTP packet format

View 3 RepliesSetup:
My page has a drop down whose values are dynamically populated. Based on which item is selected, a number of TextBoxes are dynamically created during runtime.The user then fills in information into the textboxes and clicks a submit button.
Problem:
After postback from the submit button, I need to again dynamically create the TextBoxes during Page_Init (BEFORE LoadViewState) so that after the ViewState loads, my Button_Click event can save/do whatever with the user input. PROBLEM is, I cannot recreate the textboxes based on the selection in the dropdown, because the dropdown hasn't been "selected" yet by LoadViewState.
SO, how can I read from the view state, create my textboxes, then let the viewstate populate the textboxes, and then the Button_Click will use the values??
The one thing I've attempted is to override the LoadViewState function so that I can read from the view state, create the boxes, and then load the viewstate again. This did NOT work, because the debugger never seemed to hit my overridden function.

I am curious to know that how we can make web site development much faster. I am specific about asp.net.
As far as my knowledge is concern, we can make asp.net website development faster by
Using Log4Net - to capture logging information Entity framework - to increase database operation speed.
So, is there other tools also which we can use to optimize the development process?
If you have used in any of your project, whether it was a small project or large.
I was creating my new webforms application and testing it. Now I added a new textbox to the form and when pressing F5 to test, it doesn't show. None of the changes show when I try to test it.
View 1 RepliesRecently for a class to implement unit test for one of its private methods I used PrivateObject by creating private accessor instead of refelection, to which i received a code review comment as below
"My main concern with Private Object is the use of object[] in constructor. It replaces strong typing enforced by compiler with JavaScript-style run-time error detection.Consequently , personally, I would not recommend it."
Comments above confused me beacuse as per my understanding reflection also needs the object[] to invoke any method.
I have googled and searched the forums for an answer to this but nothing seems to fit.
I have installed the SP1 release of SQL 2008 Report Viewer Distributable and the SP1 of 2005 as well. My report viewer control is pointing at version 9.0.0.0 in the page references and web.config.
The problem is when clicking on the print icon i get the ActiveX control install prompt, click install it disappears briefly and I then get the "Unable to load client print control error". This is happening on my development machine.
Under the C:WINDOWSDownloaded Program Files folder i have a control with the name {0D221D00-A6ED-477C-8A91-41F3B660A832} I have tried removing this and allowing the ActiveX to install again, but this has made no difference.
I have the "Unable to load print control" on two live web servers so want the control working on my development machine before i tackle the issue on the servers.

View 2 RepliesHow can I test an application that I am publishing to a remote provider's IIS7 hosted site, with the VS2008 development server that is built in with VS2008 on an XP Machine?
My membership/roles work perfectly up on the remote host. On ths hosted IIS7 site when I try to access a secure directory it redirects to login, and I am able to login, however when I launch (debug - F5) from VS2008, it will provide that folder/resource, no questions asked. Same build, config, etc... nothing has changed.
I am running XP, and local IIS version installed is 5.1.
My guess is what is happening is that the new format required in the web.config is configured properly for IIS7 deployment, which is why it works remotely, but when running locally through VS2008/XP it is running with an older version on IIS and does not recoginize the new tags.
I'm currently building a .net web application that uses WCF web services to allow a Flex front end to access the database.
I'm in the process of setting up some unit/integration style testing on the web services and am trying to work out the best way to allow the tests to access and modify data in a separate test database.
Currently, the connection string in my unit test project points to my testing database, and the connection string in my web services project points to my development database. However, as I am using Linq it appears that when I call the web service methods from my test class, it uses the development database connection string. I have looked into creating mock objects or in-memory database but I believe the same issue would occur.
Is there a way to get this to work, or is my entire idea about what I want incorrect, in which case is there a better way to set this up?
I have created my site using ASP.NET Personal Starter Kits 3.5. I use Visual Studio 2008 only . .with its built-in SQL Server (2005 Express) ... my database in App_Data is ASPNETDB.MDF ...
I have created some of my tables also ....in ASPNETDB ..
In my local PC the site was running fine ...
But when I publish my site on production server it doesn't work and shows the following error
<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->
<configuration>
<system.web>
<customErrors mode="Off"/>
</system.web>
</configuration>
Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.
<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->
<configuration>
<system.web>
<customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="mycustompage.htm"/>
</system.web>
</configuration>
My hosting provider connection string ..
<add name="ConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=69.16.253.19;Initial Catalog=usa_data;Persist Security Info=True;User Id=user;Password=pass" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>
My hosting provider gave me the connection string to connect to the SQL Server 2005 but it doesn't work...
I don't understand why my site was running fine using the production SQL Server 2005 in my local PC when I include ASPNETDB.MDF file in App_Data in my local pc only ..if I remove file ASPNETDB.MDF from App_Data of my local pc ... the site stops working ...
Can anybody tell em how to fix this ... !! I am very tensed since last 3-4 days
I need to load different css file depending on the language that the user selects. I need to do this only in my master page.
View 2 RepliesI downloaded Firefox 4 yesterday and when I try to open my site (ASP .Net 2.0 site using masterpages) it tries to open the file rather than display the page. The message in the popup is: "You have chosen to open contactus.aspx which is a: aspx File from: 'my site'. What should Firefox do with this file?"
I am sending the following content-type: <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" /> I also tried changing the charset to utf-8, same thing.
When I try to run the page through the w3 validator it gives me this message:
Warning Character Encoding mismatch!
The character encoding specified in the HTTP header (utf-8) is different from the value in the <meta> element (iso-8859-1). I will use the value from the HTTP header (utf-8) for this validation.
Is the server (IIS) somehow setting the default charset? Could this mismatch be the problem? What else can I look for? Also, one more thing, I have a mobile site running on the same server which uses "application/xhtml+xml; charset=utf-8" as the content-type and it works fine in FF4.
Edit: here is an example page from the site: [URL]
Edit 2: I think I have narrowed down the problem to the mobile detection. I am using 51 degrees mobile device detection from [URL]
