Testing Web Site With Blackberry Curve?
Apr 4, 2011
I'm developing an asp.net web site to work on mobile devices. Is going ok and works fine with android and iphone. I've no got around to testing it with blackberry in my balcberry curve. When i first tried everything looked good b ut then i noticed that some od the autopost back on dropdowns etc did not work. Some research time later i turn out out that by default that blackberries do not support this and that I need a Blackberr.browser file to allow that type of functionality to work. I following this link...http://www.codeproject.com/KB/aspnet/BlackberryASPNET.aspxAfter doing this my blakberry will not load the site at all, i just get connection timeouts. So i tried removing the blackberry.browser file, read loading the assembley in an attempt to get back to where is was, but still the site will not connect. I've refreshed iis, recycled app pools and even rebooted. I have a QA site on another box that the blackberry will connect to, but my development machine it does not like anymore

I want to load test an ASP.NET web service. I have Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition and Visual Studio 2010. Can either one of these products facilitate load testing? I can't seem to find anything and all Google returns is higher end editions of Visual Studio.If not, what are some of the alternatives.

Recently for a class to implement unit test for one of its private methods I used PrivateObject by creating private accessor instead of refelection, to which i received a code review comment as below
"My main concern with Private Object is the use of object[] in constructor. It replaces strong typing enforced by compiler with JavaScript-style run-time error detection.Consequently , personally, I would not recommend it."
Comments above confused me beacuse as per my understanding reflection also needs the object[] to invoke any method.

I'm currently building a .net web application that uses WCF web services to allow a Flex front end to access the database.
I'm in the process of setting up some unit/integration style testing on the web services and am trying to work out the best way to allow the tests to access and modify data in a separate test database.
Currently, the connection string in my unit test project points to my testing database, and the connection string in my web services project points to my development database. However, as I am using Linq it appears that when I call the web service methods from my test class, it uses the development database connection string. I have looked into creating mock objects or in-memory database but I believe the same issue would occur.
Is there a way to get this to work, or is my entire idea about what I want incorrect, in which case is there a better way to set this up?

I've been thinking about starting to work with AJAX because it seems easy to use things like the update panel. I also want to use a modal popup. I know that JQuery has some really stuff and I want to use it eventually. I want to take the path of least resistance for now though.
there seems to be some overlap in what the two technologies offer. There are similar things offered in both of them. I think I have to use AJAX for the partial page updates though.
How is the learning curve for JQuery compared to AJAX?

I have to create a web application that allows you to create specific XML documents. To generate a document, the user must be able to fill out fields that will be the XML content, using dropdown lists, text input fields, calendar controls ... Some fields will be validated. use some default values (text, new GUID, current date ...) add or remove sub nodes. The minimum an maximum number of nodes will be validated. All fields, relations and validations should be configurable by using config files. I have an idea of how to implement this in a homebrew MVP or MVVM pattern way.
Now I wonder if MVC 2 can help me enough to justify the learning curve. (MVC 3 is not an option, as my client still uses VS2008.) In two weeks I should have a working application. It is for internal "power user" use, so it doesn't have to look too fancy, but the main concept and functionality should be waterproof. My background: I have many years of experience with Win Forms developement and basic knowledge of ASP.NET (did some smaller apps with it).

I'm working on a web page that will be viewed on a blackberry (to start with). On the page I need to be able to add calendar events to the user's blackberry calendar or add new contact records to their contact list.
I've found the api on RIM's site that would allow this [URL] but I have no how to incorporate it into an asp.net page.
I assume I need to write inline javascript but I don't know how to import/include the API libraries that are required. Does anyone know how to do this or, better yet, have some sample code? If this is even possible, I think I just need to get past this hurdle and I'll be on my way (until I trip over the next one ).

I've built a ASP.NET webservice and I'm trying to access it from a Blackberry. I've been testing it out with multiple devices and the simulator and it works fine, but there's just the one Blackberry 9000 (It's not the model, I've tried it out with another Blackberry 9000), and it's stuck waiting for a response from the server. Relevant section of the code that accesses this -
System.out.println("IN ntwk access thread, start point");
HttpConnection connection = (HttpConnection)Connector.open(serviceURL + WSNAME);
connection.setRequestMethod(HttpConnection.POST);
connection.setRequestProperty("Content-type", "application/x-www-form-urlencoded");
connection.setRequestProperty("Content-length", Integer.toString(postData1.length));
OutputStream requestOutput = connection.openOutputStream();
requestOutput.write(postData1);
requestOutput.close();
final int responseCode = connection.getResponseCode();
if(responseCode!= HttpConnection.HTTP_OK) {
//Process the error condition
}
// Request succeeded process the data.
It seems to be getting stuck after connection.getResponseCode(). Is there some way I can verify what's going wrong with this particular device?

Is there any way to get the address book contacts from a blackberry device in a .net web application?We have a .net web application that can be accessible from a Blackberry device.What we need is a way of getting the Blackberry contacts list from a blacberry device the same way when you send an email:When you send an email you can type some characters on the "To" field then hit "enter" and the blackberry device is doing a lookup function returning a list of contacts based on the keywork you typed. Maybe there is a way of calling a blackberry API from a javascript function that would perform the same way described.

Mobile web is no longer supported in latest version of Visual Studio. Please do following with Vs2008 or VS2010
- Create standard ASP.NET website with standard "Web Forms"
- Design the content of web forms for your mobile pages based on device family that are
going to access your website. For e.g. iPhone, Andriod
- Add a detector process, which detects from where request is coming. If it is mobile than redirect user to mobile optimized pages.
- Different mobile has different capabilities (e.g screen size, image support, html support, xhtml support etc.). So it is very important that you know what type of device is trying to access your website and accordingly render required HTML/XHTML supported by the mobile device. [URL] So I have a basic website with .aspx pages. When they are on a blackberry the words wrap on top of the second line over the TEXTBOXES. Is there a basic place that can tell me how to fix this? Or what to use in the place of the CSS that are causing this on the blackberry devices?

I tried to use the asp.net fileupload control for uploading a picture or music file, from blackberry device to server. But, What happened is ; the file is uploaded , ie, the file is created with 0 bytes in it. That is, file is actually not uploaded. Since blackberry browser doesn't support other fileformats, the device contains only .png & .m4a fileformats in its samples. I have used these sample in blackberry for uploading. The same has occured in the case of .m4a files also... Why is it so...? One more thing... The blackberry browser which I am refering here is the blackberry browser simulator, bold 9700.

I use AutoCompleteExtender control in an application. When user types an account name to pull a report, the auto complete control lists the top 40 account names from database, user is able to select an account name or type exact account name to pull a report.
It works fine on regular browsers. But the auto complete function does not work on blackberry browser. No error message either. If user types an exact account name, a report can still be pulled. But if a user does not know an exact account name, no data will return because that wrongly typed account name does not exist.
Does somebody know how I can make auto complete work on blackberry or does somebody know any alternative method?
