Unable To Retrieve Key From App.Config?
Jan 29, 2010
In my WAP project I have a reference to another C# Project (non-web). In that C# project I have an app.config and I renamed it to [projectName].config
I then tried to grab a key from my [project].config from some code within my C# Project and it can't find it:
return ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["somekey"]
So I am wondering why it can't read my app.config. I would think that ConfigurationManager would be able to read keys form the Web project's web.config AND my [projectName].config (app.config) file that is in my referenced project as well?

We are experiencing some strange behaviour on one of our ASP.NET web servers (Windows 2003 64-bit). After some activity, two third-party controls are unable to run correctly. One is log4net (it does not write error messages out) and the other is a menu control (it displays eval message instead of picking up its license). The one common thread is that both controls pick up their config from external config files (linked to from web.config).
Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this or experienced this in any way. Is it related to file/folder rights? The server has been running fine for a while and just started exhibiting this behaviour. Perhaps it occurs around the time the worker processes are recycled.

Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to failure in retrieving the user's local application data path. make sure the user has a local user profile on the computer. The connection will be closed.
After I formated my system, When I run my website on local IIS databases, aspnetdb.mdf don't seem to work. But works fine on local Cassini (VS).
But this problem is only with one of my new website , rest everything work fine.
Does it have anything to do with SQL Managment Studio? I din't take any backup of master database and all.

I'm in the middle of moving a web application from IIS6 to IIS7. I've enabled "Windows Authentication" and added <deny users="?" /> to the authorization section of my web.config file. When the app was running on IIS6 my users where able to access the web app without logging in because their windows login was automatically recognized. This does not seem to be the case in II7. I can not get a value for "Current.User.Identity.Name" in my ASP.Net code.

I have a page that displays content retrieved from XML with no problems:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<Root>
<Fields>
<NamePrompt>名字</NamePrompt>
</Fields>
</Root>
Page encoding is set to GB18030 and it displays perfectly. However, when I retrieve inputted text from HttpContext.Current.Request.Form that's been entered with double-byte characters, the retrieved string contains unreadable characters. Single-byte characters are fine, obviously.
I've tried the following to no avail:
byte[] valueBytes = Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(HttpContext.Current.Request.Form["fullName"]);
string value = Encoding.UTF8.GetString(valueBytes);
I don't see this problem with other double-byte languages like Japanese or Korean. How can I successfully retrieve double-byte characters from a page that's GB18030 encoded?

I am unable to understand. Hopefully someone out there has faced a similar issue and knows the fix. I am creating DAL for my project using class library. In my class library I want to store the connection string in APP.Config file and I have created and saved it.
The problem is when I try to access my connection string by name using ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings[Name], it returns null. When I try to access connection string using number like ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings[0] It returns a strange connection string i.e. (data source=.\SQLEXPRESS;Integrated Security=SSPI;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|aspnetdb.mdf;User Instance=true)
I want to clearify here that I have not deployed the website yet and its on my local file system so there is no link of this library with IIS.

I have a form in a page and a panel inside the form.The panel gets loaded with dynamic controls like radio button and text boxes.
User is allowed to choose any radio option and enter any value in the textbox beside it and then goes for submit button to move to next stage.
Problem Descritopn:
I load the controls in the panel based on the index of a combo control on the same form.it is done in selectedIndexChanged - This is working fine.
When i go for the submit button and ask for the textbox control, it says "object reference not set to instance of object", denoting that instance is not available. Moreover the panel control list gets empty automatically.

I am trying to update the database with the edited data. However, it did not manage to read the edited data from the textbox. It returned the retrieve data that I have done in the Page_Load instead. Is there any part of the code that I have written wrongly? I did manage not to use <EditItemTemplate> in my past project and manage to update the database with the same logic.

I have read in many places that referencing IRequiresSessionState or IReadOnlySessionState will allow me access to the Session scoped variables from within the ProcessRequest method in an ASHX file.
I have implemented these changes, as follows, and I am unable to retrieve this data still, as the server returns a null object reference error:
using System;
using System.Web;
using System.Web.SessionState;[code]....
The error is most certainly specific to pulling data from the session, yet I am 100% certain that the session contains data in this key.
It shouldnt matter where I am storing the data (cookies, vs db, etc), right?

I have a web site that uses the both c# and vb.net in the app_code section. The different languages are separated into their own folder and correctly configured in the web.config.
<codeSubDirectories>
<add directoryName="BasicCode"/>
<add directoryName="CSharpCode"/>
</codeSubDirectories>
This works fine 95% of the time. In production using 2 load balanced servers I sporadically receive an error message along the lines of:
"Unable to find assembly
'App_SubCode_BasicCode.xxx,
Version=0.0.0.0, Culture=netural,
PublicKeyToken=null'.
The site is hosted in IIS7 and I think it has something to do with the name of the dll assigned during dynamic compilation. I do not see this problem in a single server environment. Could this be because when the session is balanced to the second server the dynamic compiled dll name is different?

I have a Windows Service I have developed in Visual Studio 2005 (C#).
It accesses a database using a connection string in machine.config.
On my Windows XP Pro 32bit (SP3) machine, it works correctly.
On my new Windows 7 Pro 64bit machine, it throws "object not set to an instance of an object" when it gets to the line where it's trying use the connection string.
This is the 'object' which is not set in Windows 7:
ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["MyDatabase"].ConnectionString
The machine.config has the same connection string set up on both machines.
A .Net 2 website transferred to the Windows 7 machine has no problem accessing the same connection string.
I have tried a bunch of different permissions on the machine.config and its containing folders, and setting the service to log in as Admin, but I don't know exactly what permissions are required.

I'm all set on the server side with the RSA key pair installed. Where I'm hung up is trying to get the job done on the web.config file ... can't seem to get the aspnet_regiis command string right. I am using the command string provided by the web host (DiscountAsp.net). Most (all) of the examples I read use a website on the development machine. I actually registered my project in IIS and tried that but it didn't work. In any case I would rather not have to go to the hassle of registering a project in IIS anyway if I can avoid it.
Details:
My web application project is in a folder on my local machine:
D:Projects<project name>
This is most recent (failed) attempt to use aspnet_regiis:
C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv4.0.30319aspnet_regiis.exe -pe "connectionStrings" "D:Projects<project name>"
Is it possible to just do this manually by looking at the NetFrameworkConfigurationKey_xxxxx.xml file and entering the values? Seems like it should be do-able except I'm not sure how to parse the xml file for the correct values.
On a related note, when I add the following code to web.config it "announces" that "The keyContainerName attribute is not allowed". Ditto useMachineContainer
[Code]....
