i have created my website in vs 2008 using the localhost, now i want to upload it to my uni server. i have transferred all the files to the server but am getting this error. I have made an application for some customer that I'm going to transfer to a webhotel.I want to make sure that the application is not copied and used elsewhere without my knowledge. So I have thought of stripping the aspx files from their code behind, that is not the aspx.cs file itself. But from all code inside the cs file, not the one that is automatically generated like page_load etc, but everything else. And when done, then just upload the compiled DLL file(s). Does this work? Are there something to be mindful of if I carry out with this plan.

the problem i have is the hosting company are saying it's not them and their IIS server is supporting .net 2.0 and it must be my code. i have even tried creating a brand new site and uploading that and I still get the same error. Because it's a school website i have to use the local government's hosting company so can't go anywhere else to host it. my question is is there any way i can create a website in .net 1.1 in vs? that way i can try to upload that site and see if it's displayed; at least if it does I can go back to the hosting company and tell them it's their server.

I am using the fileupload control to upload an excel file to a server, but I am getting a "Access to the path '\<server>importResponses.xls' is denied" when I try to use fileUploader.SaveAs(filepath). The filepath I use is \<server>importResponses.xls, so I am actually saving it to a share on a different server.My environment consists of a web server and a database server. I am trying to upload the excel file to a share on the database server. A stored procedure then takes that excel file and imports the data from it into a table. So the problem isn't with being unable to save a file to a share on the web server, but it's a problem with being unable to save a file to a share on the database server. It used to work, but now it doesn't and I have no idea why. What process(es) on the database server do I need grant write access for in order for the fileupload control to successfully save the excel file?Right now, I only have the Network Service account with read/write access to the share on the database server. I tried adding other accounts, such as the ASPNET and IUSR_<server name> accounts, but nothing seems to work.The web application that does the actual uploading is configured like this:

This will be my first time trying to upload a ASP.NET site. I would like to upload my site by simply using ftp and transferring the contents of the project directory so that the site will be easy for me to make future updates. Where can I find directions for uploading a ASP.NET site via ftp? I am assuming that I will need to edit the connection string in the web.config file. However, my hosting company told me to just make a full backup of of the database into .BAK file format and upload it via FTP to your the "private" folder. Anyone have any experience with something like this and can tell me how this would affect the connection string? Can I back up the database to a .BAK file from within Visual Studio 2008 or do I have to use Management Studio? I am using Visual Studio 2008 with ASP.NET 3.5, C#, and SQL Server 2008 Express Edition.

I have a site with 2 web servers and NLB (Windows Server 2008 and IIS 7). I'm trying to move the site to NAS storage accessed via a UNC path.
I have copied the site files to the NAS and set all permissions on the NAS. The only change I'm making in IIS is to the sites path. I can change the path back to local storage on the web server and there is no error. I switch the path to the UNC path and I get the error.
When set to the UNC path, within IIS Manager on each web server I can successfully browse to HTML files, but I get a 404 browsing to ASPX files. I've narrowed the error down to something going on when the page directive is in the aspx file. That is, when the aspx file has only html, the page will load fine. When I add the page directive to the aspx file I get the 404:
I don't see anything in the code behind that could possible cause 404, and the site files match exactly between those on the web server and those on the NAS.

The app runs beautifully when living on my pc - the app on my pc connects successfully to the SQL Server 2008 Express Database (which sits on a server - not my pc). However, as soon as I publish this application to the server that the SQL Server 2008 Express Database sits on, I get this error when I try to run the application:

It's behaving as if it either doesn't know where the table is when the app tries to run on the same server as the database or maybe the app doesn't have permission to hit the database once the app is on the same server as the database. I have recently moved my project to VS2005 and I have trouble running all pages that have code behind. I set up a DEV sub domain so I could start with one page and work out what is going on.
I have got the page working locally but it won't work when I upload the page, dll and associated files to the web server (hosted for me).
The error seems simple enough, it's a parser error saying it can't find the code behind file (aspx.vb), but I can't for the life of me work out why, especially when it works locally.

I've just setup a new site on my IIS6 and I'm experiencing the following problem:
I can run normal HTML pages, but no .aspx files. If I call the aspx page directly I get a 404 - file not found - error message. This only happens with .aspx files.
