I'm working on a very dynamic site build at the moment. What I'm trying to do is creating something like a survey that can be created dynamically from a control panel. In the control panel you add input fields (these are saved in a database), what the user then see is a form that I generate from the database. So if I add 3 input fields to the database the survey will contain 3 fields. If I add 20 fields the survey will have 20 fields.
Now my problem is that I want to validate these fields, and I would like to be able to hook me in with the standard validation flow. I can't create a Model with validation rules since the number of fields and their names are dynamic the only thing I know is what kind of data that is expected in every field (this rule is found in the database). In an ordinary case I would get the automatic highlighted fields that are not valid and so on thanks to the built in validation flow with ValidationResult and so on.
So the question now is can I somehow simulate parts of the validation and then hook me back in with the validation result, and if not valid, the form prints the error messages and fill the fields with the data that was given?
am trying to use JQuery validation plugin to validate some fields on one page.at page also has a link button which submits the page to server. Now the problem that I am facing is jQuery validator doesn't fire when I submit the page with that link button. If I change the link button to normal button or image button then validation works fine. I can't change the control on the page and have to use the link button.
I am beginner to MVC. I have created a View with dropdownlist, text box and text area. I didn't create a strongly typed view because these fields are not generating from the database. Is this right way of doing it? Do I have to create a 'Model' class and generate a strongly typed view? I am trying to validate(client and server side) these fieds before saving into the database. How to create a Model class for these fields?
I am a completely new to ASP but have been given the task of creating some simple forms for my employer. how I could validate the Email, Website fields? And also make the Post Code a required field?
I have tried various techniques that some seemed to have outlined and so far none of them have worked. I have a situation where the Page_Load() needs to build a set of <input id=<dynamic name'>> that are build dynamically inside a <ul>. The form gets created fine but when I click the button and look at the results returned to the server I cannot seem to find the input values. Is there a defined way of accomplishing this?
When I Login the page using username and password and then click the logout button and after again click Login button without entering username and password it will be login,I want to show error
I have a relatively complex dataset (numerous tables, some with multiple records) generated from reading in an XML file. I need to connect said dataset fields to an ASP form. At the moment I'm assigning them manually, like so in the pageload:
I did some looking into binding the textboxes (and dropdownlists, and checkboxes, and and and...) directly, but it seemed to be too many formats to use.
So this works fine, but as the number of fields increases, those load and unload lists are going to get unwieldy.
So am adding fields in the code behind and now want to add required field validators. Kicker, I think comes into play becasue all this is in a master page. So even though I may set the id of the textbox to say tb4, it's no longer tb4. So when I add the required field validator and tell it the control to validate is tb4, I get the yellow screen of death telling me thtat tb4 does not exist... cause it's the long huge master page ID. What do I do?
I've got a simple form with some textboxes. These textboxes all have a RequiredFieldValidator. If field 1 is filled in I need to disable the RequiredFieldValidator of field 2 because only one of these fields is required. What is the best way to accomplish this?
I have an CONTACTS page.It has the 4 textboxes, the SEND button and the validation control for the 4 textboxes.How can i use an update panel, so when the user clicks on the SEND BUTTON, it does not do a postback ?
I have a Contact page, with 4 textboxes and 4 field validators. I made a RESET button to clear the text when pressed. But for an example: if i type on 2 textboxes and then press the RESET button, it tries to validate all 4 textboxes.
i want to make sure all product names are unique so i tried to do the following. but it is causing an infinity loop at the lambda expression.
public partial class Product { partial void OnProductNameChanging(string value) { using(var ctx = new MyEntityContext()){ var val = value; var item = ctx.Products.Where(o=>o.ProductName == val).FirstOrDefault(); if(item != null) throw new ValidationException("Product Name existed."); } } }
i'm using asp.net 4.0 with dynamic data and entity framework.
Can anyone tell me how to re-display a form when validation fails, i'm having a problem in that when i submit an empty form, the whole ascx file is returned with textbox and button etc.
I have two validationsummary controls on my page for aesthetic reasons. Each control is assigned a validation group (StudentInfo and Grades). validation controls in the upper part of my page are in validationgroup StudentInfo and those in the bottom part of my page are in validationgroup Grades.
However, I only have one "Save" button control that causes validation. I want the Save button to validate both groups of controls, but it appears to only allow one Validation group to be specified in its properties.
Is there a way to have a button cause validation for both groups?
I have an add button that needs to only validate the child validation group which is easily done. The save button needs to validate against the parent and child validation groups, both client side and server side. I think I know how to do it server side by calling the Page.Validate("groupname") method for each group, but how can it be done client side?
My problem is that when i do a tryupdatemodel it validate the ParentCategory aswell, is it really suppose to do that? How could i avoid this, I tried [Bind(Excluede = "ParentCategory)] in the ActionResult but with no luck. I have looked all over the place with no luck everybody just got the Id problem.
I'm currently trying to work through MVC validation, and am coming up against some problems where a field is required depending on the value of another field. An example is below (that I haven't figured out yet) - If the PaymentMethod == "Cheque", then the ChequeName should be required, otherwise it can be let through.
[Required(ErrorMessage = "Payment Method must be selected")] public override string PaymentMethod { get; set; }
[Required(ErrorMessage = "ChequeName is required")] public override string ChequeName { get; set; }
I'm using the System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations for the [Required], and have also extended a ValidationAttribute to try and get this working, but I can't pass a variable through to do the validation (extension below)
public class JEPaymentDetailRequired : ValidationAttribute { public string PaymentSelected { get; set; } public string PaymentType { get; set; } public override bool IsValid(object value) { if (PaymentSelected != PaymentType) return true; var stringDetail = (string) value; if (stringDetail.Length == 0) return false; return true; } }
Implementation:
[JEPaymentDetailRequired(PaymentSelected = PaymentMethod, PaymentType = "Cheque", ErrorMessage = "Cheque name must be completed when payment type of cheque")]
Has anyone had experience with this sort of validation? Would it just be better to write it into the controller?
I am building a form on an ASP.Net C# 4.0 page that will be adding dynamic controls (like text boxes, drop down lists, and file upload controls) using AJAX. I know how to add the controls them selfs from the code behind page bt what I cant figure out is how to add an asp:Requiredfildvalidator and other validation controls like that.
I load the controls from database in the Page_Preinit . The conrols like textbox,Dropdown wil load. Now i want to validate these controls . for example if i have the textbox for Email and phone no i want to add validation to these controls on runtime since the controls load dynamically .
When I use a compare validator, datatypecheck="String", and try to enter the following code to test, the comparevalidation doesn't catch it in time, and instead the browser pops up with an error saying the text is not allowed.
there I am using xval for the first time, it seems to work fine for required fields, However I am having some issues first of all it does not seem to validate booleans and also client validation is not working for me, this is not a major issue for me, the one that I really need to work is the stringlength property. It seems to do something because the form is not posted when the string length is exceeded, however no error message is displayed to the user which is obviously not what I want, has anyone been able to do this successfully?
My model goes like this
using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Web; using System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations; namespace PitchPortal.Core { public class DocumentMetadata { //[Required] // public bool visibility { get; set; } [Required,StringLength(10, ErrorMessage = "title is too long")] public string title { get; set; } [Required, StringLength(10, ErrorMessage = "description is too long")] public string description { get; set; } [Required, StringLength(10, ErrorMessage = "summary is too long")] public string summary { get; set; }
