DataSource Controls :: Adding New Field To A Table Mapped In LINQ?

May 25, 2010

I have a table added to a dbml file in my website. The website is already deployed to Live server. Now I have been instructed to a add a new field to the table. The field will be defaulted as getdate().

I don't plan to modify my dbml file for this change since the filed holds a default value. Will it cause any issue(performance related or any other). I am sure that I will not have to use the newly added field in the website. I am new to LINQ.

DataSource Controls :: Setting Field To Nulls Not Working - LINQ With Listview

Jan 6, 2011

I have a Listview with a LinqDataSource. I am allocating a resoure called Bladder Scanners to clinicians on the day selected. The field in the database, 'Allocated_Bladder_Scanner_Id', allows nulls. The 'nullable' property of the field in the dbml is set to allow nulls.In the edit template, I have an unbound dropdownlist (drpBladderScannerDropdown) with an 'empty string' item added to cater for nulls, and
AppendDataBoundItems="true".In order to show only bladder scanners which have not yet been allocated on the selected day, I am databinding the dropdownlist to a dictionary of unallocated bladder scanners in the ItemDataBound event. I then add the currently selected bladder scanner as a listitem and set it as the selected item. So far, so good, all works well. However, if the clinician has a bladder scanner currently allocated, and then the user elects to not allocate the clinician a bladder scanner on that day by selecting 'Nothing' from the dropdownlist, the LinqDataSource fails to update the field. It does not throw an exception, it just doesn't set the field to nulls. In ItemUpdating I have the following code:

Forms Data Controls :: Replace An Empty Concatenated Field With "unknown"?

Apr 16, 2010

I should probably post this question to a different forum but I've had such good luck on this one, I hate to leave...I have an SQLDataSource which has a concatenated field of FirstName + ' " + LastName AS FullName. That datasource is used to populate a Primary Contact combobox in the GridView based on the dsOrganizations datasource. ComboBox datasource = dsContacts, TextField = FullName, ValueField = ContactID, ValueType = Int32
nfortunately, not all the Organizations have Primary Contacts listed yet so the above substitution breaks and doesn't even show the Primary Contacts when they existWhat I need is someway to either leave the Primary Contact row blank in the DataGrid or replace it with "[none selected]"

DataSource Controls :: Set Field As DBNull.Value If Field Is Blank?

I have a 20 to 30 fields on a form. Most of them are optional. However, the users can fill out what they want. If a user dosen't fill in a field when data is sent to the database it's sent as blank, instead of NULL. Is there a way I can generically say "for all textboxes if Equals("") then DBNull.Value". Without going through each and every textbox?

DataSource Controls :: Stored Procedure Not Returning Value

I call this stored procedure with a dataset. It always returns a 0 but should return a 1 or 2. Does anybody know why it isn't returning a 1 or 2.

ALTER PROCEDURE dbo.sp_InsertLinkVote
@LinkId int,
@LinkVoter nvarchar(50),
@LinkVotesDateTime datetime,
@LinkVotesGoodBad bit
LinkVoter = @LinkVoter )RETURN
dbo.LinkVotes (LinkId,LinkVoter,LinkVotesDateTime,LinkVotesGoodBad)VALUES

Here is were a call it in my code behind.
Dim VoteCheck
Dim InsertVote
New DataSetStoredProceduresTableAdapters.QueriesTableAdapter
VoteCheck = InsertVote.sp_InsertLinkVote(LinkId, User.Identity.Name, DateAndTime. Now,
'0 is a good vote.
If VoteCheck = 0

It seems to insert and not insert correctly, I just cannot get it to return the correct value.

DataSource Controls :: Returning Primary Key Of New Database Row

Jul 9, 2010

In my application, users fill out a form to submit a "Job Request" - once they submit the form it is stored as a new row in a table in the Sql database. Each "Job Request" that is submitted is given a "JobID" which is a number and also the primary key of the new row in the database (the number is generated by the database). Once the users hit the "submit" button, I'd like to return the value of the "JobID" (the primary key) so that the user can know what it is. How would I achieve this? In the future, I will have to expand the application so that the users would be able to edit an older "Job Request" and get a similar JobID number (so if before it was 1234, the new one would be 1234-1 or something like that), so this is not simply a matter of searching for the highest number in the primary key field in the table and returning that. I'm using Sql for my database and writing in VB.

LINQ-to-SQL Query Returning No Results?

Mar 5, 2011

I have a query using LINQ-to-SQL. It queries an underlying database table Rooms. It uses Where conditions to narrow down the results, namely:

Current Occupancy < Max Occupancy
Available Flag is Checked

I know this should return results but it keeps returning an empty set. Any ideas? Code is below

Dim selectedHalls = (From sh In dbHalls.Rooms _
Where sh.gender = Session("gender").ToString _
Where sh.max_occupancy > sh.current_occupancy _
Where sh.is_available = 1 _
Select sh.building_name).Distinct()

UPDATE: I've verified that the issue is with the statement where sh.is_available = 1, which doesn't make sense since this is a bit field.

DataSource Controls :: TableAdapter.Update Returning Incorrect Row Ids?

Apr 9, 2010

I'm lost as to where to look next. Here is a sample of what I'm doing:

[Code].... The related tableadapter insert statement was autogenerated by VS2008:

INSERT INTO [ProductCycleCountItem] ([ProductCycleCountLocationID], [ProductID], [CountOnly], [Status]) VALUES (@ProductCycleCountLocationID, @ProductID, @CountOnly, @Status);
SELECT id, ProductCycleCountLocationID, ProductID, CountOnly, Status FROM ProductCycleCountItem WHERE (id = SCOPE_IDENTITY())

With multiple users it's as if it was returning @@IDENTITY instead of SCOPE_IDENTITY(). The table will look like this:

id Location product

1 A 5321

2 A 8273

3 B 2827

4 A 1743
The returned dataset will look like this:

id Location Product

1 A 5321
2 A 8273
3 A 1743

Is it maybe a SQL Server (2005) setting that's incorrect?

DataSource Controls :: Use DataTable Instead Of DataSet / Returning One Table?

Is it better to use the DataTable when I have one table to return instead of a DataSet? Is there any advantage of not using the DataSet in a situation like this? Is there a disadvantage to using the DataSet when only one table is being returned? Does this even matter?
