On page load I m getting a gridview. On that gridview, I dont have any button or link. If I click on particular row, I want to display another gridview of that row in the same page. Can anyone explain in detail what events I have to fire and what I have to write in the code

how do I click on the child gridview and get the values of the parent gridview? no events in the child gridview no number indexrow on the parent gridview I'm lost.
I got a function to load a grid view and works fine. Then, I got a button, when click, I wanted to add a new row into the grid, what I did is I add a new to to the dataset and rebind the dataset to the grid view.
The problem I faced is that is it able to add a new row, but it only shows ONE column only, which is the most left column.

im now created a function where i can import excel file to be displayed in gridview and then insert the data from gridview into database.
It is running smoothly until i copied the page into another file. Suddenly, when i try to display the gridview, it does not appear.
I've try copied everything exactly the same like the original one, but still failed.
Does anyone have experience like this before?

Here is what I need to to. I have a gridview which I have a column that has a link to a pdf file on our file server. When I click the link I need to go into a database and update a column that they clicked the link then I need to open the file. by usinga HyperLinkField I am able to put in the link that I want to go to and when the page is running I can click on the link and it goes to the page and everything works fine except for being able to update the database part.

I tried using a ButtonField where in the code behind in the GridView1_RowCommand I pull out the file path and put it into a response write statement the problem I'm having with it is that when it opens the file it removes all the ""s so I get the error file cannot be found.

The data binding is done manually in the code behind, which means you have to manually write the onpageindexchanging in there too. Normally that's done like so:

When you click to the next page on such a page, it is only blank if you have if(!Page.IsPostBack){} around your manual data binding. Well on this page with multiple gridviews I don't have that. But it's still blank when you click to the next page.
I am developing an application using Sharepoint Designer.I need to retrieve data from a database for display on the screen.The way I am hoping to implement this is to have a Text box from which data is taken and at the click of a button passed to the procedure (which is within script tags) which calls a stored procedure passing it the value entered in the text box.The problem I've having is that the gridview is not displaying anything (i.e. other than text i entered in the EmptyText property of the gridview ("There are no records").

I have a gridview that has a column with an imagebutton. That image button event calls my update procedure and merely updates that records status and when the gridview rebinds, the image changes and is no longer available.Whats happening is if the page is refreshed, the update occurs again. If i add this around the update code, works great the first time, but then any other updates are ignored.. is there anyway to know wether the page was refreshed vs actual imagebutton postback?

Since the update is just setting a flag for that record, on another page that displays those records for a seperate department. IF by chance the first page is still open and the 2nd department resets the flag, if the first page is refreshed, that flag is reset again. so its creating some inconsistant results..
Need to have the ability to change the view of my gridview based on button click, the easiest i can describe what im trying to do and need is if you have every been on any e-comm site where you get a list of items presented to you.. normally you may get a thumbnail, description and price.. but at the top of that list you get the option to view it as a list with no thumbnails and so on..
Is gridview the best control to be using if i want to do that? example of what im needing is similar to walmart.com
if you search for a product doesnt matter, when the results are presented to you, you have it in what they call "List View", but you have the option to view it in "Grid View", not sure if they are actually using listview and gridview controls.. but i want the same end results..

Im into a situation, where, I need to embed linkbutton to gridview to display one field (TITLE) from database. It was done as I've added it in the itemtemplate. Now my situation is bit refined; I should add a text box and another linkbutton which should be disabled on page load and when ever I click that linkbutton which is displaying (TITLE) should make the textbox and another linkbutton visible by displaying corresponding values from the database in the textbox.
